    To this day, Wajid ‘Ali Shah (1822-1887), the last Nawab of Awadh, is either remembered as a hedonist and political failure who was forced to surrender his kingdom to the British East India Company, or as a musical genius and important patron of the arts. However, few accounts engage with his personal religiosity and public acts of Shī’ah piety. This paper examines Wajid ‘Ali Shah’s own scholarship and poetry and considers his mourning practices and investment in rites relating to Muharram. By focusing on the era of his exile in Calcutta (1856-1887), I explore how these rituals integrated the Nawab into the public life of the city. More broadly, this paper considers his court’s activities as a case study to explore the history of nineteenth-century Shī’ah sound art practices and examine how instrumentation, oratory, and processions were understood by contemporary Muslim scholars of religion, the arts, and music

    The present study entitled “Assessment of Plant Diversity in Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh” was conducted in Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh state in order to investigate the plant diversity of trees, shrubs and herbs present. A total 85 tree species belonging to 32 families, 23 shrub species belonging to 16 families and 15 grass and herb species 8 families were recorded. Fabaceae is the largest family in 20 species followed by Moraceae (11), Rutaceae, Meliaceae, Rubiaceae in tree species, Asparagaceae is the largest family in 6 species followed by Apocynaceae (5), Rubiaceae (3) in shrub species and Asteraceae is the largest family in 4 species followed by Poaceae (3), Amaranthaceous (3) in grass and herb species. Overall, Site-III (South-East) showed the highest IVI parameter of dominant tree species for Sarasa asoca (51.21), Site-IV (South-West) showed the highest IVI parameter of dominant shrub species for Murraya paniculata (164.42) and Site-II (North-East) showed the highest IVI parameter of dominant grass & herb species for Rivina humilis (62.13)

Crisis of Marxism has prompted intense reflection on the nature of modernity as a post-cultural phenomenon. This discourse highlights forms of domination and resistance neglected by Marxism and Liberalism. Intellectual developments in the West have acquired a halo of universality which makes it difficult for outsiders to recognise their limitations. The debate between modernists and postmodernists is a case in point. Post-colonial theorists appropriation of post-structuralism, thematic and methodological, raises questions about their own relationship to Western theory and whether their analyses neglect material aspects of globalization as well as problems specific to post-colonial societies. This thesis contends that it is unnecessary to absolutise the "culture vs. materialism" dichotomy.     The assessment of butterflies diversity and relative abundance were conducted in the Butterfly Park, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (Lucknow Zoo) from the month of July 2020 to December 2020. Butterflies are considered as valuable bio-indicator species for examining and detecting changes in the environment because of their diversity, broad distribution specifically to vegetation type, quick response to perturbation, statistically significant abundance, and sensitivity to environmental variations. This study revealed presence of 62 species of butterflies belonging to 45 genera which represents five families. Family Nymphalidae has been most abundant and comprising 24 species, followed by 16 species of Lycaenidae, 14 species of Pieridae, 6 species of family Papilionidae and 2 species of Hesperiidae were recorded from the study area during the study period. According to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 four species found to be protected. Species richness and abundance of butterflies has been highest during late monsoon to early winter. The relative abundance and diversity of each butterfly species depends upon the availability of food source, habitat condition and their environmental conditions.     Application of in-situ gamma spectrometry for radiogenic heat production estimation in the Western Himalaya, Kohistan, and Karakoram in northern Pakistan

    The Himalaya, Kohistan, and Karakoram ranges comprise Proterozoic to Cenozoic crystalline complexes exposed in northern Pakistan. Numerous hot springs in the area indicate high subsurface temperatures, prompting a need to evaluate the local contribution of radiogenic heat to the general orogenic-related elevated geothermal gradients. The current study employed a portable gamma spectrometer to estimate the in-situ radiogenic heat production in the Nanga Parbat Massif, Kohistan–Ladakh batholith, and the Karakoram batholith. Heat production in the Nanga Parbat Massif is high, with a range from 0.2 to 10.8 µWm−3 and mean values of 4.6 ± 2.5 and 5.9 ± 1.9 µWm−3 for gneisses and granites, respectively. By contrast, the heat production is low in the Kohistan–Ladakh batholith, ranging from 0.1 to 3.1 µWm−3, with the highest mean of 2.0 ± 0.5 µWm−3 in granites. The Karakoram batholith shows a large variation in heat production, with values ranging from 0.4 to 20.3 µWm−3 and the highest mean of 8.4 ± 8.3 µWm−3 in granites. The in-situ radiogenic heat production values vary in different ranges and represent considerably higher values than those previously used for the thermal modeling of Himalaya. A conductive 1D thermal model suggests 93–108 °C hotter geotherms, respectively, at 10 and 20 km depths due to the thick heat-producing layer in the upper crust, resulting in a surface heat flow of 103 mWm−2.
