Is Tu Wei-ming confucian?
No full textTu Wei-ming\u27s discourse has been badly understood by some Western philosophers who study Confucianism. I suggest that this misunderstanding stems from the fact that these philosophers fail to realize that Confucian discourse is in an entirely different register from Western philosophical discourse. I then propose my own preliminary definition of Confucian discourse in five points and present a structural analysis of a text by Tu Wei-ming. Finally, I consider which features of Tu\u27s discourse can properly be called Confucian. The answer to this question reflects not only on Tu but also on Confucian discourse and the study of Confucianism in general. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media B.V

Tu Wei-ming presents a collection of perspectives of the Chinese identity. These essays stand alone well, some are more relevant and better written than others (as will be addressed in this review), but they collectively fail to provide a coherent unified interpretation. The chapter topics are somewhat related but the continuity among them is weak (which should not be interpreted as a shortcoming of the individual chapter authors)

Circular Economy and Energy Transition: A Nexus Focusing on the Non-Energy Use of Fuels
No full textGiven emerging concerns about climate change, low-carbon energy transition is advocated and promoted. Non-energy use of fossil fuels accounted for 8.9% of the world’s total final energy consumption in 2015. Non-energy use intensity does not show an evident reduction, while energy intensity as fuel per dollar of gross domestic product has decreased thanks to energy transition efforts such as energy efficiency promotion and renewable energy expansion.
This study conducted an extensive review of the circular economy and energy transition
frameworks, and found that the energy transition framework has a critical gap, so it cannot
provide a foundation for investigating non-energy use. This study suggests that the energy
transition discourse needs to be extended to incorporate the transition of non-energy use
and the achievement of a closed loop of non-energy use, which is part of the circular economy
framework. The coordinated circular economy–energy transition approach could bring in synergistic effects, such as promoting circular economy activities among industries, reducing energy demand, and attaining additional greenhouse gas mitigation potential
Dualities for loop amplitudes of N = 6 Chern-Simons matter theory
Get PDFIn this paper we study the one- and two-loop corrections to the four-point
amplitude of N = 6 Chern-Simons matter theory. Using generalized unitarity methods we
express the one- and two-loop amplitudes in terms of dual-conformal integrals. Explicit
integration by using dimensional reduction gives vanishing one-loop result as expected,
while the two-loop result is non-vanishing and matches with the Wilson loop computation.
Furthermore, the two-loop correction takes the same form as the one-loop correction to the
four-point amplitude of N = 4 super Yang-Mills. We discuss possible higher loop extensions
of this correspondence between the two theories. As a side result, we extend the method
of dimensional reduction for three dimensions to five dimensions where dual conformal
symmetry is most manifest, demonstrating significant simplification to the computation of
integrals

Despite strong conceptual links between trait interests and emotions, there has been little research on the interplay between the two fields of research. We make three contributions providing a more nuanced view of interests. First, emotions can serve as indicators of trait interest—thus; we locate the emotion term interest as but one potential indicator of trait interest. Second, by examining trait interests with positive and negative affect anchor labels, we find that trait interest approach responses can be different from trait interest avoidance responses—aspects of work activities people are averse to and avoid. Last, building on this new evidence for trait interest avoidance, we find that avoidance-congruence—derived from passive-negative affect anchors—also relates to commensurate facets of job satisfaction. Further, not only does use of avoidance-congruence lead to incremental prediction of commensurate job satisfaction facets, but also the variance in job satisfaction accounted for by traditional congruence is subsumed by avoidance-congruence: suggesting that what people avoid might be equally or more important for understanding their job satisfaction than what they would like to do.Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-02T21:07:16Z (GMT).
