Gender and technology in the East Midlands boot and shoe industry : 1850-1911
Get PDFMany scholars now consider that gender is an important category in historical study,
but unfortunately many do not practice what they preach. Feminists have recognised
for some time the importance of some form of historical analysis to feminism, or at
least what Judith Allen calls 'a historically grounded feminism'. The protagonists in
the debate disagree considerably, however, over the methodology which feminist
historians should adopt. The various positions taken up have led to a schism between
those who believe the feminist challenge to mainstream, or what Elizabeth Fox-
Genovese calls 'official' history, should be mounted from within the discipline of
history or from outside it. Judith Allen claims that the work which has been done in
women's history to date serves to raise considerable doubt that accepting the
discipline of history as presently constituted is a viable option for feminism. She sees
the phallocentric characteristics of history as an obstacle to feminists using history.
Allen feels that 'no less than Marxism, feminism is opposed by professional historians
as an ahistorical grid of abstraction and prescription, threatening the integrity of the
historical evidence.

Legal matters related to structural damage in the Netherlands
Get PDFWhen structural damage occurs and disputes arise, forensic engineers have to search for the causes of this damage to find out who can be held liable for it. Legal systems must provide an adequate, reasonable, effective and complete way to solve these disputes. Each country has its own system with advantages and disadvantages. This paper provides an overview of the Dutch legal system concerning liability, dispute resolution and insurances. These themes will be illustrated by quantitative research data, a comparison between the Netherlands and England and by discussing advantages and disadvantages of rules, such as reasonableness and influences on structural safety. XP customer practices: A grounded theory
No full textThe Customer is a critical role in XP, but almost all XP practices are presented for developers by developers. While XP calls for Real Customer Involvement, it does not explain what XP Customers should do, nor how they should do it. Using Grounded Theory, we discovered eight customer practices used by successful XP teams: Customer Boot Camp, Customer’s Apprentice, Customer Pairing, and Programmer’s Holiday support the well-being and effectiveness of customers; Programmer On-site and Road shows support team and organization interactions; and Big Picture Up Front and Re-calibration support Customers steering the whole project.
