De synthese en karakterisering van core-shell waterafdunbare dispersies
No full textHet doel van dit onderzoek was de synthese van core-shell waterafdunbare dispersies (latices) en de karakterisering daarvan m.b.v. UV/VIS spectrofotometrie. Voor de karakterisering moest de deeltjesgrootteverdeling smal zijn. Bij deze latices bestaan de kernen van de deeltjes uit een ander polymeer dan de schil. Bij dit onderzoek werd als core polystyreen genomen en als shell een polyacrylaat zoals butyl acrylaat, butyl methacrylaat en ethyl acrylaat. De syntheses werden voornamelijk uitgevoerd volgens de kiem emulsiepolymerisatie. Een andere methode was de shot-growth emulsiepolymerisatie. Het is gelukt om core-shell latices te bereiden, die voldoen aan de eisen om er lichtverstrooi ïngsmetingen (UV/VIS) op uit te voeren. Butyl methacrylaat bleek hierbij het beste monomeer te zijn voor de vorming van de schil. M.b.v. de lichtverstrooïngsmetingen kon de structuur van de gecoalesceerde core-shell latexfilms beschreven worden. Uit deze structuur kon geconcludeerd worden, dat de bereide deeltjes een coreshell structuur hebben. Andere technieken die gebruikt werden om deze deeltjes te onderzoeken waren: zeeptitraties, electronen microscopie, MFT (minimale filmvormingstemperatuur) bepalingen en Tg bepalingen m.b.v. DSC. Deze metingen gaven ook aan dat de deeltjes coreshell's waren.
