High temperature innovative zirconia-alumina ramming mass
Zirconia and high alumina ramming masses stand out as efficacious variants within the domain of unshaped refractories. In the interface between these materials, the utilization of transitional zirconia-alumina ramming mass is recommended. This study delves into the impact of alumina additive on the fundamental properties of ramming mass samples based on calcium oxide-stabilized zirconia, employing a phosphate bond. The investigation encompasses both the characterization of these samples, ranging from cold to heat-treated states across temperatures spanning 200–2100 °C, and an analysis of phase evolution throughout these conditions. The alterations in ZrO2 phases during thermal processing in the presence of Al2O3 and P2O5, along with the ramifications of these transformations on the properties of the ramming mass, are elucidated. Notably, the most comprehensive interaction between P2O5 and cubic ZrO2 materializes within the temperature interval of 1200–1400 °C, resulting in a marked destabilization of the cubic ZrO2 phase accompanied by a marginal reduction in sample strength that remains acceptable. The process of cubic ZrO2 phase destabilization reaches completion at 1700 °C. Elevating the heat treatment temperature of samples from 1700 to 2000 °C engenders the disintegration of aluminium, calcium, and zirconium phosphates, consequently leading to the re-stabilization of ZrO2. This, in turn, fosters densification and fortification of the sample structure. Designed for constituting the functional layer of linings at the interface of combustion and reaction zones within carbon black production reactors, the zirconia-alumina ramming mass with a phosphate bond showcases noteworthy potential. Experimental validation of this developed ramming mass at a carbon black plant has yielded favourable outcomes
History of the "Vik" Publishing House in Serhii Efremov Memories
Efremov’s memoirs “On the Days of the Past (memories)”, which were written more than 100 years ago, reveal, among other things, the author’s vision of the history of creating one of the first Ukrainian publishing houses “Vik” in Nadniprian Ukraine, convey the role of famous public figures in its activities, reproduce the names authors and individual books that were published in the publishing house at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The purpose of the article is to find out the history of the publishing house “Vik”, based on the material of S. Efremov’s memoirs from 1920 to 1921, which was one of the first in sub-Russian Ukraine to start its activities at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, to show its main products, in particular, a three-volume anthology of Ukrainian literature, dedicated to the centenary of the publication of the first three parts of I. Kotliarevskyi’s “Eneida” and its significance for Ukrainian culture. And to do all this in the subjective vision of events by the memories author. The idea to create a publishing and literary circle, which later turned into a Ukrainian publishing house called “Vik”, appeared among Kyiv seminarians. A notable influence on them and, in particular, on S. Efremov, made the Ukrainian writer O. Konyskyi, one of those who stood at the origins of the General Ukrainian Non-Party Democratic Organization, which was joined by the Kyiv Community. At the meetings of this organization, S. Efremov repeatedly heard the speeches of O. Konyskyi, who had the idea to create a Ukrainian publishing house. The latter gave 75 karbovanets, which became the starting capital of the publishing house. Organizational activity played an important role in establishing his work. S. Efremov mentioned Kyiv locations where young people gathered to discuss plans for the future and operational measures for the functioning of the publishing house. For the history of publishing in Ukraine, there is particularly valuable information in the memoirs of people who were involved in the work of the publishing house (in the early stages V. Domanytskyi, O. Lototskyi, the Pylynski brothers, O. Hrushevskyi, D. Antonovych, O. Rahozynskyi, Davydov, Prymachenko, O. Havrysh, and others). Later: F. Matushevskyi, V. Bachynskyi, V. Durdukovskyi, V. Prokopovych. In the autumn of 1900, H. Berlo, Ya. Shulhyn, Ol. Hrushevskyi, M. Oppokov, M. Pavlovskyi, M. Strashkevych, V. Prokopovych, Yu. Kvasnytskyi. The apogee of the publishing house’s work was the preparation and release of the poetry collection “Vik”. And then three more volumes, supplemented by a volume of poetry and two volumes of prose.
This publishing house became the leading one in Ukraine and functioned until 1919 when it was banned by the Bolshevik authorities. S. Efremov did not play an active role in the last years of its activity
