Narrating the self in a contemporary world: bridging autobiography and testimony
No full textThe paper investigates new textual forms of autobiographical writing in the contemporary world, and in particular the striking growth of traumatic memories from recent and less recent conflicts. The category of testimony is suggested in order to better describe what appears to be a pervasive phenomenon; from a semiotic point of view one of the main feature of testimony literature is its effect of hybridisation across the boundaries of different textual genres.
The paper investigates a transversal feature of contemporary testimony, i.e. the use of a multimodal language composed of both linguistic and visual material, in particular photographs, and analyses contrastively the meaning effects of such use in traditional autobiographical texts and in new hybrid forms of testimony

No full textL'articolo analizza la struttura e la forma dei blog, discutendone in particolare la doppia natura semiotica, tra testualità e pratica. Da un lato infatti il blog si presenta come un testo mulimediale di natura particolare, semioticamente definibile come testo sincretico, dall'altro però è la pratica della sua produzione e della sua interpretazione a essere determinante per il suo senso. In particolare risulta centrale la dimensione della temporalità e il carattere aperto e in divenire dei blog. Esiste, in questo universo, una specificità dei blog al femminile? L'articolo discute in questa chiave alcuni concetti chiave del fenomeno blog, in particolare la distinzione fra pubblico e privato e il ruolo della dimensione relazionale
Ruins of War : The Green Sea and the Mysterious Island
No full textThis chapter provides a semiotic investigation of an emblematic space in Palermo, the Foro Italico. After the Second World War, this space was occupied for many years by the ruins left when the city was bombed. Analysing the diachronic evolution of the Foro Italico, the author examines the semantic categories that have defined the space, exploring how the memory of the war has been concealed and inscribed in the post-war rewritings of the place. The chapter reads this space as 'a mysterious island', caught between nature and culture. Referring to different kinds of texts, Marrone illustrates how the practices of various local and migrant communities contribute not only to the resemantisation of space but also to the production of new memories

No full textL'articolo discute la possibile estensione del modello classico della narratività, così come elaborato nella semiotica strutturale di origine francese e in particolare nella scuola di Algirdas Greimas, a oggetti di indagine nuovi per la semiotica come le pratiche e i corsi di azione. Dopo una rilfessione critica sulla letteratura esistente e sullo sviluppo di nuovi approcci metodologici, viene affrontata l'analisi di alcune situazioni di interazione specifiche, quelle fra madri e bambini molto piccoli. Dall'osservazione di alcuni di questi casi viene suggerita una riflessione di più ampia portata sulla euristicità del modello narrativo applicato a pratiche e situazioni in atto, suggerendo alcune linee teoriche per integrare i modelli già esistenti per la narratività. In particolare viene ribadita la rilevanza del livello discorsivo per la corretta individuazione delle articolazioni narrative. Ciò significa, nel caso dell pratiche, una particolare attenzione al modo in cuil'azione è realizzata

Full text linkThe essay explores the relationship between art – visual arts, installation, sculptures, videos - and traumatic collective memories by analysing a peculiar site of memory: the Parque de la Memoria y de los Derechos Humanos in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After a short introduction aimed at clarifying some of the ways in which a work of art can be called upon to transmit, recount, expose, reflect or work through a traumatic past such as that of the Argentinian state terrorism and the “guerra sucia”, we discuss the space of the Parque along the Rio de la Plata, that includes a monument for the desaparecidos, an actual park with sculptures and installations, a space for temporary exhibitions and an archive. In particular, we devote the second part of the essay to Alfredo Jaar’s 2015 temporary exhibition “El punto ciego de la historia”, in which the Chilean artist dialogue with Argentinian’s past and his own works on the Chilean dictatorship
