More than thirty years ago, de Groot (1946, 1965) then Chase and Simon (1973) showed that contrary to commonly held views chess experts do not have superior memory capacities, nor superior calculation ability, compared to novices. In fact, the nature and organization of knowledge differentiate experts and novices. This paper provides a critical review of work conduced since these landmark studies on the « drosophilia of psychology », namely chess expertise. After a reminder of de Groot and Chase and Simon's research and Chase and Simon's theoretical model of expertise in terms of « chunks », we consider the limits of this model and recent empirical and theoretical developments. These developments emphasize the structure of knowledge representation in long term memory.

II y a plus de trente ans, de Groot (1946 ; 1965), puis Chase et Simon (1973), montraient que, contrairement à une idée reçue, les experts au jeu d'échecs ne possèdent pas de capacités mnésiques ou calculatoires supérieures à celles des novices, mais que c'est la nature et l'organisation de leurs connaissances qui leur confèrent une supériorité. Cet article propose un bilan des travaux qui, depuis ces recherches princeps, ont étudié la « drosophile de la psychologie » : l'expertise au jeu d'échecs. Après avoir rappelé les recherches de De Groot et de Chase et Simon, et le modèle théorique de l'expertise que Chase et Simon ont proposé en termes de « chunks », nous présentons les limites de ce modèle et les développements empiriques et théoriques proposés récemment, qui mettent l'accent sur les structures de représentation des connaissances en mémoire à long terme.

De Omgevingswet als groot ICT-project
No full textBinnen de planologie is veel onderzoek gedaan naar grote stedelijke projecten. De bij besluitvorming voorgestelde kosten en baten van zulke projecten zijn notoir onbetrouwbaar gebleken. Grote projecten kosten meestal meer dan geraamd, de realisatie duurt langer en de maatschappelijke baten vallen vaak tegen. Ook de Omgevingswet en het bijbehorende digitale stelsel kan worden beschouwd als een groot ICT-project. Niets wijst erop dat de Omgevingswet een van de schaarse positieve uitzonderingen zal vormen op de gangbare praktijk van grote projecten.Accepted Author ManuscriptOLD Geo-information and Land Developmen

No full textVincent de Waal (1951) promoveerde in 2014 aan de Universiteit voor Humanistiek. Hij is werkzaam als docent- onderzoeker bij Hogeschool Utrecht (HU), Instituut Social Work. Sinds 2002 is hij onderzoeker binnen het Kenniscentrum Sociale Innovatie van de HU en vanaf 2012 betrokken bij de WMO-werkplaats Utrecht. Hij brengt in zijn proefschrift in kaart op welke wijze teamleiders (of middenmanagers) de afgelopen jaren bijgedragen hebben aan de omslag in de lokale sociale sector richting actief burgerschap. Hij deed hiervoor onderzoek in vijf grote gemeenten en interviewde vele teamleiders, uitvoerende professionals en directeuren/managers.
Aanleiding voor het onderzoek was dat ik zowel binnen de sociale sector als binnen mijn werk merkte dat de kloof tussen het hogere management en de werkvloer vaak groot is. Het ontbreekt nogal eens aan goede, inhoudelijke verbindingen. Ik kwam steeds meer tegen dat je het op de werkvloer wel allemaal goed kunt organiseren én heel bevlogen directeuren kunt hebben, maar dat je er dan nog niet bent. ‘Het midden’ in organisaties zag ik als een essentieel scharnierpunt
