Yash Chopra
As a charismatic director in the Indian film industry, Chopra’s name is synonymous with the glamour of the romantic film and a certain style within Indian culture. Spanning four decades, his directed features include some of the classic films of Indian film history, such as Deewaar and Kabhi Kabhie. His directorial career began in 1959 with Dhool Ka Phool and he has been a major producer since 1973, consolidating his success in the 1990s with a series of huge box office hits including Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. He has also worked in other Hindi movie genres, directing action movies such as Mashaal and a thriller, Darr. This book discusses in depth his work with the Hindi megastar Amitabh Bachanan in films such as Deewaar, Trishul, Kala Patthar and Silsila and how, in his transformation of the look of mainstream cinema in Dil To Pagal Hai and other films, Yash Chopra has proved to be a tireless innovator within a mainstream tradition. The author integrates this analysis with information about the man and his work, based on interviews with Yash Chopra, his family, his colleagues, his stars, his contemporaries and major critics that include views from Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Shashi Kapoor and Sri Devi. A study of a top contemporary Indian film director, Rachel Dwyer’s book also examines the influence on Chopra of predecessors such as Raj Kapoor and how his own legacy can be seen in such films as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and younger directors such as Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra

Promotion of Events and Festivals in the Digital Era
Purpose / Research Significance: This chapter aims to discuss and analyse the role of Media in the promotion of various events and festivals using different tools of communication such as Newspaper, Local Television Channels and Online Websites, Social Media specifically. The study also offers practical and strategic advice for event planners, brand communicators, and destination marketer sin the major Asian tourism markets, such as India and its neighbours.
Study Design/Methodology/Approach: The outcomes of the study were derived using aqualitative technique. The Prisma technique was used to examine prior literature. Prisma is a set of evidence-based reporting questions for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. There search takes a special review of social media plat forms available to promote an event online.
Finding: The study’s findings provide insight for event/festival organizers and destination marketers interested in achieving success with destination marketing, branding, and promotion.
Implications: The chapter suggests the challenges and opportunities lies in the promotion of an event / festival in the age of social media and making the best use of local media tools available
The competition for partners in matching markets
We study the competition for partners in two-sided matching markets with heterogeneous agent preferences, with a focus on how the equilibrium outcomes depend on the connectivity in the market. We model random partially connected markets, with each agent having an average degree d in a random (undirected) graph and a uniformly random preference ranking over their neighbors in the graph. We formally characterize stable matchings in large random markets with small imbalance and find a threshold in the connectivity d at [Formula: see text] (where n is the number of agents on one side of the market), which separates a “weak competition” regime, where agents on both sides of the market do equally well, from a “strong competition” regime, where agents on the short (long) side of the market enjoy a significant advantage (disadvantage). Numerical simulations confirm and sharpen our theoretical predictions, and demonstrate robustness to our assumptions. We leverage our characterizations in two ways: First, we derive prescriptive insights into how to design the connectivity of the market to trade off optimally between the average agent welfare achieved and the number of agents who remain unmatched in the market. For most market primitives, we find that the optimal connectivity should lie in the weak competition regime or at the threshold between the regimes. Second, our analysis uncovers a new conceptual principle governing whether the short-side enjoys a significant advantage in a given matching market, which can moreover be applied as a diagnostic tool given only basic summary statistics for the market. Counterfactual analyses using data on centralized high school admissions in a major U.S. city suggests that both our design insights and our diagnostic principle have practical value.

The research will delve into how marketers can leverage memes as a marketing tool, including incorporating memes into social media campaigns, creating original memes, and tapping into trending memes to align with brand messaging. The research will also examine the potential benefits of meme marketing, such as increased brand awareness, enhanced brand personality, and improved customer engagement.
Furthermore, the research will analyse the challenges and ethical considerations associated with meme marketing, including potential backlash, cultural sensitivity, and legal concerns. The study will also explore best practices for marketers to avoid pitfalls and effectively navigate the ever-evolving landscape of meme marketing.
Based on the secondary data analysis, this research will provide insights and recommendations for marketers on effectively maximizing engagement with viral memes in their marketing strategies. The work will contribute to the growing body of literature on meme marketing and provide practical implications for marketers seeking to harness the power of memes to connect with their target audience and drive engagement in the digital era. MPC-based motion cueing algorithm for a 6 DOF driving simulator with actuator constraints
Driving simulators are widely used for understanding Human-Machine Interaction, driver behavior and driver training. The effectiveness of such simulators in this process depends largely on their ability to generate realistic motion cues. Though the conventional filter-based motion cueing strategies have provided reasonable results, these methods result in poor workspace management. To address this issue, linear MPC-based strategies have been applied in the past. However, since the kinematics of the motion platform itself is non-linear and the required motion varies with the driving conditions, this approach tends to produce sub-optimal results. In this thesis, a nonlinear MPC-based algorithm is presented which incorporates the non-linear kinematics of the Stewart platform within the MPC algorithm to increase the effectiveness and utilize maximum workspace. Further, adaptive weights-based tuning is used to smoothen the movement of the platform near its physical limits. Full-track simulations were carried out and performance indicators were defined to objectively compare the response of the proposed algorithm with classical washout filter and linear MPC-based algorithms. The results indicate a better reference tracking with lower root mean square error and higher shape correlation for the proposed algorithm. Lastly, the effect of the adaptive weights based tuning was also observed in the form of smoother actuator movements and better workspace utilization
Construction and Demolition Waste Management: A Way Ahead for SME's in Mumbai
Mumbai,as a rapidly growing megacity faces considerable challenges with its CDWM endeavours. This research is motivated by the unique context of the city, characterised by its highly fragmented construction industry in critical need of government interventions, to promote effective CDWM due to its fragmented, unorganised and competitive nature. This thesis explores the transitioning of the construction industry in Mumbai towards effective construction and demolition waste management (CDWM) from the perspective of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It seeks to identify the challenges faced by SME’s and propose strategies to enable them to meaningfully contribute to CDWM efforts. Amixed methods approach was taken, beginning with a literature review to identify barriers and stakeholders involved in CDWM. This was followed by a comprehensive review of international case studies pertaining to Shenzhen, Singapore City and Hanoi to identify international best practices for comparable Asian contexts. Semi-structured interviews with stakeholders from Mumbai’s construction industry were conducted to adapt these identified solutions to Mumbai’s unique industry fabric. This was followed by the application of the Socio-Technical Systems (STS) theory framework to investigate the interplay of technical and social dimensions within their relevant environment. This leads to societal outcomes in the form of solutions for CDWM in Mumbai, steeped in its specific context using a phase wise approach. The literature review revealed that the construction industry in India and by extension Mumbai suffers from; insufficient infrastructure, lack of knowledge and technology, lack of governmental incentives for CDWM,mindsetproblems, lack of enforcement, fragmented nature of the industry, supply chain issues and corruption as barriers towards the adoption of effective CDWM measures. Out of these barriers; the fragmented nature of the industry, lack of enforcement and corruption emerged as the key barriers that serve as stumbling blocks towards the adoption of effective CDWM. Studying international best practices through a case study approach provided solutions that can be divided in to 4 categories, these are; strong governmental interventions, improving monitoring and enforcement, establishment of a thriving recycling market and improvements in infrastructure and technology. These best practices were aligned to Mumbai’s unique context through stakeholder interviews and thematic analysis was conducted using the 4 dimensions of STS analysis as the themes. This allowed for the application of the STS theory framework to Mumbai’s construction industry, employing a phase-wise solution due to its suitability to transition projects and the requisite-prerequisite nature of some of the suggested measures. The solution is divided into 3 phases namely; Foundation and Preparatory Measures, Strengthening Implementation and Innovation and lastly Advancing Utilisation and Transition. These measures were suggested with the aim of transitioning Mumbai’s construction industry to largely eliminate illegal dumping, improve infrastructure and technology through collaborative research, improve quality of recycled materials, set up a thriving recycling market and introduce technical specifications for their use resulting in establishing material circularity in the industry. The final aim is for landfilling to be restricted purely to soil with all recyclable materials being recycled and processed to improve material circularity and reduce environmental impact of the construction industry in Mumbai. The research also revealed that SME’s operating in Mumbai can be integrated positively into CDWM endeavors by improving the enforcement in the industry, providing incentives against punitive measures and enabling them to incorporate material circularity in projects without significant changes to their operating procedures. Effect of Output Granularity on SARS-CoV-2 Variant Abundance Estimates using Domestic Wastewater Sequencing
Monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 variants is crucial to efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Lineage level abundance estimates for SARS-CoV-2 can be obtained from viral material present in domestic wastewater. The abundance predictions can be made at different levels of granularity-individual lineage level(high granularity) or variant level(low granularity). The question this paper answers is to what extent abundance predictions are more accurate at lower granularity. Here we show that when wastewater samples contain only one lineage low granularity predictions are in general more accurate than high granularity for all lineages across Alpha, Delta and Mu variants. No variant level overestimation was observed for this experiment, which was thought to be something that could have made low granularity predictions less accurate than those at high granularity. When lineages of a variant were combined into a wastewater sample, the prediction error rose because of the smaller relative abundances of the genome sequences. Overestimation due to predictions of all lineages being pooled into one lineage was observed here with the overestimated high granularity lineage being more accurate than the low granularity predictions. If samples are expected to contain a very small amount of lineages then it is better to make predictions at low granularity. On the other hand, as the relative abundances of lineages decrease in a sample due to a large number of lineages, the chances of lineage level predictions having a smaller relative prediction error rate increases- making high granularity the better choice for more accurate predictions.CSE3000 Research ProjectComputer Science and Engineerin
Key Lead Indicators: An explorative research on improving the performance of large inner-city rail infrastructure projects across Europe
Despite of extensive and systematic usage of ‘Lag’ type of performance metrics, Large Infrastructure Projects (LIPs) often struggle in achieving the intended performance and frequently tend to be overbudget & delivered late. This research investigates Key ‘Lead’ Indicators (KLIs) and provides suggestions on how to measure and influence them in the future large rail infrastructure projects. These ‘Lead’ Indicators are forward-looking performance metrics, unlike the ‘Lag’ indicators, and can forecast the deviation in the project performance at an early stage. Building on existing insights from theory on lead indicators, it asks: How can Key Lead Indicators be used to improve project performance of inner-city rail infrastructure projects across Europe? The research is performed through a combination of mixed qualitative research methods including literature review, case studies and an expert consultation meeting. From the literature review, it is observed that all the identified lead indicators tend towards negative aspects or events in a project. However, the research considered the indicators to be neutral which can help to forecast both positive and negative aspects of a project. The results of the literature review reveal that Design Change, Communication, Decision Making, Level of Experience, Mood, Attitude, Commitment, Conflicts, Trust, Criticism and certain External indicators are the most important and frequently repeated KLIs. Based on the literature results and three case studies each one from Sweden, Netherlands and Austria respectively, interviewees from each case are asked to respond to the questions framed in order to identify the KLIs from practice. The results of the analysis confirm that almost all KLIs observed from literature are similarly observed in practice. Level of Experience of the project personnel and Close Stakeholder Engagement are found to be the most frequently repeating KLIs across all the projects. It is concluded that in order to improve the performance of future LIPs, the identified KLIs should be responded at the earliest by measuring and influencing them. Broadly, more attention should be paid on improving the recruitment process, prioritizing client’s requirements, empowering stakeholders, improving personal relationships and creating positive project environments. A detailed set of recommendations is provided as starting points to enable the required change. This research contributes to scientific knowledge of lead indicators in project management by enriching the concepts of KLIs and discovering steps to measure and influence them.
