Occupational contact urticaria from latex in hairdressers

Background: From the epidemiological point of view contact dermatitis is considered the most frequent clinical pattern of contact allergy in hairdressers. Conflicting data exist in Europe about the true incidence of allergic contact dermatitis among hairdressers (30%-70%), and in Italy the prevalence is 76.4%. The most frequent positive allergens are nickel sulphate, paraphenylendiamine and its derivates, thioglycolate, ammonium persulphate and, finally, rubber products. During the last 2 years some hairdressers presented to our Allergy Unit with hand wheals associated with a few minutes exposure to latex gloves. Objective: the aim of this study was to verify the prevalence of contact urticaria from latex gloves in hairdressers and to examine the factors associated with latex gloves at baseline. Materials and methods: a total of 109 hairdressers were consecutively studied for latex allergy with the following screening: patch test with SIDAPA standard series and with occupational haptens; prick tests with a commercial extract of natural latex and with a latex solution obtained by immersing some pieces of latex in a saline solution; RAST for latex-specific IgE antibody detection; use testing. Results: nickel sulphate, paraphenylendiamine, para-aminoazobenzene and ammonium persulphate gave the highest number of positive patch test reactions. Skin prick tests with latex, RAST and use testing were positive in 6/109 hairdressers (5.5%). Atopy, defined as the presence of a positive skin reaction to at least one of the common inhalant allergens tested, was present in 3 hairdressers with latex allergy and 4 workers showed an irritant contact dermatitis of the hands. Conclusions: the results confirm that allergic contact dermatitis is the most frequent cause of contact allergy in hairdressers. Moreover, these data show that we can observe a type I reaction to latex in these subjects. Contact urticaria from natural rubber was present in 6/109 workers and type-I allergy was confirmed by in vivo and in vitro tests. Atopy and a pre-existing hand contact eczema seem to be risk factors for the development of latex allergy in these workers

The paper deals with the travel that mgr Piero Rossano, at that time secretary for the Secretariat for non Christians, did in Soviet Union in 1975 with fr. Chiavacci, senator Gozzini, his wife Vilma and an Italian writer, Gino Montesanto. In Montesanto’s archive the author found new information about this travel and about the meetings that Rossano had in Moscow, Zagorsk, Vilnius, Kaunas, Riga and Jurmala. The Italian delegation met representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate, of the Soviet regime, but, above all, met some leaders of the persecuted Catholic Church. The trip must be considered as an important piece of the Catholic Ostpolitik: a pastoral activity that included negotiations with hostile Governments, ecumenical meetings, and brotherly support to Catholic bishops beyond the Iron Curtain

The essay focuses on some portions of the huge corpus of Torquato Tasso’s rime, mainly underlining their relationship with the poet’s biography, as explained through several of them, and reflecting on the composition of his three-part volume of rime (love poems, celebratory poems, sacred poems) and the strategic functions and rhetorical means that the Author uses to mark the unity of his collection of lyric poems as conceived and partially published under his supervision during the last years of his life

The essay deals with “Part Two” of Tasso’s lyric poems as published by the poet himself in 1593. Following a previous introductory essay on the same subject by the same author, the paper focuses on the first section of poems in the book, stressing the thematic and stylistic strategies chosen by Tasso to produce a sequence of poems in praise of distinguished noblewomen of his time whose names recall those of several figures from ancient mythology whom the poet connects them to in his praise

This research‟s objective was the historical reconstruction of a nature trail, since the launch of the first ideas, your initial steps, its implementation, its difficulties, its success and even its abandonment. The track was a project undertaken by the Department of the Environment of the City of Porto Alegre (SMAM) Zonal the South, headed by a forestry engineer Suzane Marcuzzo Bevilacqua, under the supervision of trainee Rossano Irigaray Fritzen, throughout the year 2002. The area of work was located in an urban forest fragment in the municipality of Porto Alegre. The approach consisted of analyzing historical narrative, using resources such as maps, photographs, interviews and memories recorded in recorded and transcribed interviews with participants, among which is the author of the thesis, since played a leading role in the events investigated. Thus, the creation, development and decommissioning of the Canary Ecological Trail were reconstructed, showing that this was a successful experiment, which its creators had in common passion for environmental education in this project and found a way to put into practice their knowledge and theoretical concepts on the subject, joining efforts by the public, third sector and local community. From the beginning the trail presented, in practice, new approaches to classical topics of the teaching of biology and in particular issues related to the Environmental Education, in order to awaken the comunity as a critical sense the position of the human face of their abuses with environment, which is also part
