An idic(15) associated with POF (premature ovarian failure): Molecular cytogenetic definition of a case and review of the literature.

We report on a 36-year-old infertile woman, presenting a premature ovarian failure with an otherwise normal female phenotype. Cytogenetic analyses showed the presence of a supernumerary marker chromosome, that was characterized by FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) and array CGH (comparative genomic hybridization). This marker chromosome was derived from chromosome 15, and contained only heterochromatic material. The Prader Willi/Angelman region was not present. No duplications of the 15q regions were detected by array CGH. Supernumerary markers of chromosome 15 have been reported in cases of infertility and amenorrhea, that is also described in cases with marker derived by other acrocentric chromosomes. The case here presented constitutes a further example that etiology of POF is not always associated with a defective gene, but in some cases oocytes atresia can be the consequence of the abnormal meiotic pairing of chromosomes

Facilitating Coordination between Software Developers: A Study and Techniques for Timely and Efficient Recommendations

    No full text
When software developers fail to coordinate, build failures, duplication of work, schedule slips and software defects can result. However, developers are often unaware of when they need to coordinate, and existing methods and tools that help make developers aware of their coordination needs do not provide timely or efficient recommendations. We describe our techniques to identify timely and efficient coordination recommendations, which we developed and evaluated in a study of coordination needs in the Mylyn software project. We describe how data obtained from tools that capture developer actions within their Integrated Development Environment (IDE) as they occur can be used to timely identify coordination needs; we also describe how properties of tasks coupled with machine learning can focus coordination recommendations to those that are more critical to the developers to reduce information overload and provide more efficient recommendations. We motivate our techniques through developer interviews and report on our quantitative analysis of coordination needs in the Mylyn project. Our results suggest that by leveraging IDE logging facilities, properties of tasks and machine learning techniques awareness tools could make developers aware of critical coordination needs in a timely way. We conclude by discussing implications for software engineering research and tool design

    Requirements-based Estimation of Change Costs

    No full text
We present a case study that aims at quantitative assessment of the impact of requirements changes, and quantitative estimation of costs of the development activities that must be carried out to accomplish those changes. Our approach is based on enhanced traceability and an integrated viewof the process and product models. The elements in the process and product models are quantitatively characterised through proper measurement, thus achieving a sound basis for different kinds of sophisticated analysis concerning the impact of requirements changes and their costs. We present the results of the application of modeling and measurement to an industrial project dealing with real-time software development. The ability to predict the impact of changes in requirements and the cost of related activities is shown

A complex networks perspective on collaborative software engineering

    No full text
Large collaborative software engineering projects are interesting examples for evolving complex systems. The complexity of these systems unfolds both in evolving software structures, as well as in the social dynamics and organization of development teams. Due to the adoption of Open Source practices and the increasing use of online support infrastructures, large-scale data sets covering both the social and technical dimension of collaborative software engineering processes are increasingly becoming available. In the analysis of these data, a growing number of studies employ a network perspective, using methods and abstractions from network science to generate insights about software engineering processes. Featuring a collection of inspiring works in this area, with this topical issue, we intend to give an overview of state-of-the-art research. We hope that this collection of articles will stimulate downstream applications of network-based data mining techniques in empirical software engineering

Method and system of digital content sharing among users over communications networks , related telecommunications network architecture and computer program product therefor

    No full text
A method and a system for digital content sharing between individual users in a peer-to-peer fashion, wherein each user is connected to a respective local access network through a transport network. The method and system provide local network storage areas associated with each user arranged for archiving digital contents, and carry out the transferring of contents via the transport network from a storage area associated with a user holding requested contents to a remote network storage area associated with a requesting user on a different access network according to the connectivity available on the transport network. The shared contents are made available for access by the requesting user on its local network storage area. A telecommunications network architecture includes the system so that there is a plurality of services of content sharing between pairs of individual users implementing the above method
