"You can't see yourself": su alcuni presupposti teorici della funzione dello specchio nella ricerca artistica tra performance e videoarte

The awareness of 'living inside the eyes of others' and the related desire of 'seeing themselves through their own eyes', have traversed the history of art, taking shape into the centuries-old tradition of the self-portraiture and, recurrently, in more recent artistic practices, such as happening and performance, which aim to interchangeably involve the artist, the spectator and the outer word using mirrors or technological substitutes of them, primarily the video camera. Taking into account the topic of narcissism and the concerns about the physical, psychological and relational space of the work of art that have become main issues in the artistic research from the Fifties to the present, the essay examines the function of mirrors in the work of some already historicized artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Allan Kaprow, Robert Morris, Joan Jonas, Marina Abramović, and in a selection of performances by the Italian artist Cesare Viel, who has lead in the last three decades a coherent and intense research on the Self-representation as a mise en abîme of his own identity

Method of detecting toxic compositions in water by monitoring the metabolism of selected living cells as microorganisms.

    No full text
The method is based upon the time detection of some biochemical parameters of microbial metabolism such as acidification of the environment, production of carbon dioxide, increase of turbidity, and decrease of dissolved oxygen. Such parameters are detected in a thermostated cell containing particular microorganisms and a composition having a toxic effect. The detected parameters have a different course with respect to those detected in a thermostated control cell where the toxic composition is left out. The decrease of the values of the normal microbial metabolism is proportional to the amount of toxic composition. Such a method can then be used to detect without the chemical analysis of the chassic methods any amount of a toxic composition in water. To this end microorganisms properly selected for their sensitivity to different toxic compositions are used

PREPARATION OF LACTOFERRIN (OR ANALOGOUS PROTEINS) AND DESFERRIOXAMINE METHANESULFONATE (OR OTHER METAL ION CHELATORS) FOR THE THERAPY OF VIRAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES

    No full text
The present invention relates to the therapeutic utilizzation of the preparation of lactoferrin and desferrioxamine metalsulphonate for the therapy of many acute or recurrent viral infectious diseases in humans and animals. In details, the present invention demonstrates the antiviral activity, based on the inhibition either of the absorption either of the replication of several virus, possessed by a preparation of lactoferrin (or its anologous proteins like transferrins) in apo or iron or other metal ions saturated forms, together with desferrioxamine metansulfonate (or other metal ion chelators like 8-idroxiquinoline 1,10phenanthroline, phosphonoacetic acid). This antiviral activity is well evident towards DNA virus, like Herpersviruses, and towards RNA virus, like Rhinovirus, and can be generally extended and utilized for the therapy of many acute or recurrent viral infections concerning skin, mucosas or other tissues

Use of lactoferrin for therapy of acute of chronic infectious diseases by the intracellular gram-positive pathogens streptococcus pyogenes and staphylococcus aureus

    No full text
Compositions of lactoferrin, ovotransferrin or serotransferrin in apo or iron-saturated form are provided which have bacterial anti-invasive properties against Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. Methods of treatment of epithelial calls and mucosal membranes are described

Fixed or field automatic equipment for the detection of toxic substances in water, through examination of changes in the metabolism of living cells and corresponding method

    No full text
Fixed or portable field automatic equipment for the detection of the presence of toxic substances in a liquid, such as for example water for human use, using biological detectors consisting of living cells, which might be eucaryotic or procaryotic, mixed with suitable reagents, comprising a first and a second cell of identical construction, both provided with a sensor designed when mixed with a suitable reagent to detect any irregularity in the metabolism of such cells brought about as a result of stress owing to the presence of toxic substances in the sample in one of the cells being compared with that found in the other cell which is filled with twice distilled water, and stirring and thermostatting means,; delivery means for delivering the sample liquid for performance of the analyses into one of the cells and sterile twice distilled water into the other in order to provide a control, and a processor which receives and processes the data originating from the sensors, equipped with a printer. The equipment may also include a cell sterilisation and washing system
