Gli effetti delle privatizzazioni sulle imprese: gestione economica e struttura finanziaria
No full textThe Author intends to measure the effects of privatisation on Italian enterprises (1992-2002) and to assess their similarities with those found by international research on 29 countries (1961-1995): a limited reduction in staff numbers; increased efficiency in those enterprises controlled by multinationals; a lower ratio between financial debts and equity in those enterprises controlled by foreign shareholders. Through analyses of the financial data of 14 privatised enterprises in Italy, the Author did not find many differences between the Italian and international experience, with two exceptions: in Italy privatisation caused a significant decrease in staff numbers as well as in the ratio between financial debts and equity, irrespective of the shareholder’s nationality. This shows that prior to privatisation Italian enterprises were over-staffed and had excessive debts, more than those studied abroad

No full textThe aim of this article is to show the need to adopt a cultural approach in the translation of literary works, especially when these are the product of postcolonial authors. These works, coming from cultures that sometimes are very different from our western culture, tend to show a certain resistance to translation. A cultural approach requires, before translating the single sentence or word, a knowledge of the culture that has produced the text, of the history and literary heritage of that culture so as to better grasp intertextual references, as well as a reading of the other writings by the author whose text one has to translate. This article focuses on the incipit of the novel Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie, in particular on the phrase ‘once upon a time’ and its Italian translation suggesting a possibility that is slightly different from the one appearing in the Italian version of the book, yet, according to the author of this article, is more faithful to the Author’s intention. The alternative translation is motivated through an overview of Rushdie’s use of the English language and history, the assumed lack of historical sense in ancient India and the roots of such assumption, and historiography in India, as all these aspects are involved in the translation of this novel that is the product of a highly hybridized culture

No full textThe Author has analyzed the consolidated annual reports of the major Italian companies in the past decade and has compared them with similar multinational companies and with the financial aggregates of the industry. With reference to Fiat Auto, the Author has found that in the recent years this Company has lost capability of competing from a technological standpoint with its foreign competitors. This factor has then weakened the financial situation of the Company. The strategy chosen by Enichem of leaving the productive vertical integration in favour of an outsourcing of numerous activities has not brought any benefit to the company in terms of profitability. The economic recovery efforts realized during the period 1996-98 by Alitalia have been made useless by the same Company between the end of 1999 and the end of the first half of 2001, both in terms of economics and financials and of productivity of labour. In the recent two years Olivetti has managed Telecom Italia introducing efficiency, but hasn't done technical investments enough. Furthermore, Olivetti has created a situatione of indebtedness that is unsostainable for Telecom Italia. Without considering revenues coming from video- and radio-licence fee and without the costs related to the public function of the company, in the nineties Rai's profitability was in line with Mediaset, its Italian competitor

No full textBased on the analysis of the R&S-Mediobanca survey on multinationals, in 2006 the 17 Italians were small, but not "midgest", as a result of domestic and mostly transnational M&AS. In the last ten years, their economic performance and financial structure have been always very sound and in line with the other multinationals. Their labour productivity has been lower than the average, but has improved since 1997. Italian manufacturing multinationals, however, show lower ratios than those of the utilities sector. Given the dire economic outlook worldwide, the Author believes that multinationals, Government and Unions in Italy should provide social support, mostly at labour level, and implement measures aimed at increasing size and productivity, fostering globalisation, and improving corporate governance

No full textAn analysis of the financial structure and of the economic performance during the last twelve years has been carried out on the automotive industry. This study commenced with the examination of the balance sheets of both FIAT Auto and its competitors. The author reached the conclusion that the main reasons for the present crisis of FIAT Auto were a progressive decline, since 1996, of the value added by its manufacturing cycle, deterioration of its marketing strategy and insufficient capacity utilization. The effect of all these factors on FIAT Group was that its financial debts reached a level incompatible with potential profits. Current managerial improvements are interesting but still insufficient. FIAT’s European, Japanese and USA competitors faced the same problems, but they were able to overcome these
Sakral’nost’ i desakralizacija: poslednie proizvedenija Vladimira Sorokina v novoj koncepcii literaturocentrizma
No full textThe changes in Vladimir Sorokin’s late works in relation to the crisis of literaturocentrism that occurred in Russia in the 1990s and 2000s are considered in the article. After the collapse of the USSR, literature in Russia lost its aura; in Sorokin’s late works one can observe a general trend of literature desacralization. The study analyses how this phenomenon is regarded and represented in the late Sorokin’s texts; the research considers the undeniable weakening in using the elements of violence, which used to be characteristic for Sorokin’s soviet phase. Furthermore, the article gives an insight in the literary practices through which the author desacralizes literature and language. The study concludes that, in post-soviet texts, Sorokin’s desacralization attempt is nothing but artificial. On the contrary, by using new rhetorical devices, he bestows on language new meanings and qualities, which appear to be more consistent with nowadays literary taste and which meet new Millennium’s literary aesthetics

No full textThe author proposes a synthesis of palaeoethnobotanical data supplied by plant food offerings from Gallo-Roman funerary context. All of Gaul is studied and 32 sites are presented.
A study is made of the species, the reasons for these gestures, and the religious symbols of these plants. Comparisons are established with earlier data (Celtic and Greek), together with contemporary data from Italy or other Roman provinces.Cet article est une synthèse des données carpologiques relatives aux offrandes alimentaires végétales effectuées en contexte funéraire gallo-romain. L'ensemble de la Gaule est traité et 32 sites sont présentés.
La nature des espèces déposées est commentée. Les raisons d'un tel geste et la symbolique des plantes attestées sont également discutées.
