No full textIl "Dizionario Geografico Fisico e Storico" di Emanuele Repetti rappresenta uno dei documenti più importanti per la ricostruzione storica e la ricerca geografico storica della Toscana. Oggetto di questo saggio è la presentazione del progetto di informatizzazione del Dizionario. Il progetto che è stato caratterizzato da diverse fasi e dalla sua complessità a causa del volume significativo di questa importante fonte. A conclusione viene dedicato un ampio spazio alla presentazione della pubblicazione sul Web. Questa fase del progetto è stata caratterizzata anche dallo sviluppo di un sistema di interrogazione nonché da una interfaccia di rappresentazione cartografica dei risultati.The "Dizionario Geografico Fisico e Storico" by Emanuele Repetti is one of the most important documents for the historical reconstruction of the and geographic history of Tuscany. Aim of this paper is a first account and review of the its digital acquisition project. The project was characterized by several stages. Its complexity is due to the significant size of this important historical source. The final outcome was the construction of an advanced database system. In the conclusive part of this paper a large space is dedicated to the presentation of Web publication of the project. This part of the project has also been characterized by the development of a query system as well as an cartographic representation interface

No full textThe book explores the places and areas within which, at the beginning of the modern age, the favorable conditions for the rise of a particular sensibility to a European culture were created. Culture was capable of favoring explicit references to the existence, claim, demand and protection of the inalienable rights of the human being. As a result of the ancient Greek and Roman philosophical debate, through the elaboration of medieval Christianity, the Renaissance culture developed the concept of a new anthropology based on the fundamental idea of dignitas that, even when not explicit, informed the special themes of the Renaissance (History and freedom, human education and political education, condicio hominis, dignity of women, political utopia) developed by the most important thinkers of the time (Valla, Vasari, Manetti, Pico, Agrippa, Erasmus, More among the most important ones). As regards the "twisting" paths of the practice, the main changes that occurred between the 15th and 16th centuries (discovery of the New World, religious reformation, rise and development of modern states) operated as agents of modernity also in terms of the rise of rights claims. From the debate about the nature of American Indians who accompanied the Conquest to the Leyes nuevas of Charles V, from the complex relationship between tolerance and intolerance in the Calvinist experience to the social demands expressed during the "Peasants' War", from the renovated appearance of absolutist tendencies to the rise of an ideology of power and sovereignty also based on the image of justice, the early modern history was crucial to the success of the basic principles that, over the following centuries until the Enlightenment and beyond, would inform the extensive debate and the complex affirmation of human rights in the European culture and politics. The most important events of the period clearly show that, if rights come from wrongs ("Rights from the Wrongs", A. Dershowitz), their claim is made possible only in the presence of a culture of law and justice that, although initially latent, was starting to inform the cultural, political, philosophical and legal Early Modern age (Rights from the Right)
Proposal of a Coastal Ferry Using Last Hybrid Technology for Green Transportation in Touristic Areas
No full textThe coastal passenger transport in touristic areas like Costa Smeralda
(Sardinia), Cinque terre (Liguria), Costiera Amalfitana (Campania), Venetian
Lagoon (Veneto) and others, is constantly growing. At the same time, the sensitivity
of authorities to the issue of environmental impact in those areas is leading the
transportation companies to investigate technical solutions that can guarantee high
volumes of passenger being as much as possible eco-friendly.
Hybrid or full electric passenger vessels are becoming more and more popular,
starting from this assumption the authors examined the possibility to combine state
of art technologies, with an innovative approach to match the propulsion system
with hull resistance data, in order to propose a passenger ferry capable to operate in
protected areas with an extremely low impact on the environment and taking
advantage also from a basic energy distribution ashore. The usage of new generation
batteries, with the highest safety standards, will be also investigated.
The paper starts from the determination of the operative profile for the ferry,
evaluating the best solution in terms of efficiency and power management,
considering the resistance data of various hulls, focusing on a traditional
displacement hull, and then developing a study of the propulsion system through the
usage of last generation generators with variable speed and batteries different from
traditional Li-Fe-PO4, in order to achieve a high efficiency level
Symposium on Buddhist Perspectives on Free Will: Agentless Agency?
No full textThis special issue of the Journal of Buddhist Ethics, Volume 25, is a symposium on the anthology, Buddhist Perspectives on Free Will: Agentless Agency? (Repetti), and on the topic reflected by that title, more broadly, based on an Author Meets Critics session of the 2018 American Philosophical Association Eastern Division meeting organized by Christian Coseru. To orient readers new to the topic, I first sketch what some of the issues are regarding Buddhist perspectives on free will. Second, I briefly describe the anthology, and third, I introduce the several contributions to this symposium. As I am sympathetic to most of the papers here, I only respond briefly to them in this introduction, giving some reasons for my approval. Two papers here, however, are significantly critical of either the anthology as a whole (Brent), or critical of my contributions to it (Meyers). I respond separately to each of them in the last two papers in the symposium. Together with this introduction, all the included papers are original
La piattaforma GIS del Dizionario geografico fisico storico della Toscana di Emanuele Repetti: dalla mappa al GIS - dal GIS alla mappa
No full textIl Dizionario Geografico Fisico Storico della Toscana di Emanuele Repetti raccoglie preziose informazioni acquisite e organizzate dall'autore nella prima metà del XIX secolo sui luoghi della regione e costituisce per questo un testo insostituibile e di larga consultazione nell'ambito degli studi storico-geografici. Il valore dell'opera come esauriente repertorio in grado di fornire un quadro dettagliato della distribuzione insediativa del passato così come utili dati per la storia del popolamento, ha fatto sì che essa divenisse naturale risorsa documentaria da cui partire per uno studio del territorio. Nella prima parte del contributo verranno presentate le modalità di digitalizzazione dall'opera attraverso la realizzazione di una banca dati georiferita dei siti in essa registrati e della relativa piattaforma GIS. Nella seconda parte saranno illustrati alcuni aspetti del progetto attualmente in corso, finalizzati all'indagine dei paesaggi storici e relativi in particolare ad elaborazioni cartografiche realizzate sulla base della digitalizzazione dal Dizionario. Nell'ultima parte si accenna alla proposta di una possibile soluzione identificata per correlare differenti banche dati spaziali attraverso la costruzione di un indicatore spaziale sul quale procedere all’interfacciamento di più piattaforme GIS.Emanuele Repetti's Geographical Phisical and Historical Dictionary of Tuscany collects precious information recorded and organized by the author during the first half of the XIX century of places and towns of the region. These volumes represent a unique source for geographers and historian interested in this geographical area. The value of the text as an exhaustive inventory able to provide a detailed picture of past settlement distributions and also as useful source of population data has transformed it a starting point for every research in this region. In the first part of this paper will summarize the procedures adopted for the digitalization of Repetti's Dictionary. In particular we will discuss the construction of the GIS platform and the related geo-database. In the second part we will present some ongoing research applications. More precisely we will illustrate the application in the historical landscape studies and GIS applications for a reconstruction of demographic trends. In the last part we will discuss on how the use of a spatial index instead of a relational architecture represents a better option for the interface and linkage of GIS project developed by unfamiliar research groups

No full textLatin deponent verbs are usually analyzed as idiosyncratic forms whose Middle morphology does not correspond to the subjacent syntactic/semantic structure (Embick 2000, Xu et al. 2007). This paper shows that, for the deponents produced after the first half of the II cent. BCE (ex. ancillor ‘I serve’, dominor ‘I rule’, aquor ‘I go to get water’), the presence of the Middle morphology is syntactically justified. These deponents are denominals. Their event structure involves two events, a stative one, v-be°, whose complement is the verbalized nominal element, and a dynamic one, v-do°. The unique argument is both the HOLDER of the state and the DOER of the dynamic event. The Middle morphology allows for the identification between these two positions, as in a Middle reflexive derivation (Spathas et al. 2015)
