    This document was created by Thomas R. A. Davis, Floyd A Odell, and Joseph R. Blair, all employees of the US Army Medical Research Laboratory in Fort Knox, Kentucky. The research was conducted in part by Peter V. Karpovich, a well-known physiologist who worked closely with the United States Army on medical in the late 1940s and early 1950s. His projects primarily focused on clothing and footwear for soldiers. This document was submitted on July 25, 1957 in response to a directive issued on February 4, 1953 requiring the standardization of military footwear. The document describes in great detail the test subjects, test operations, criteria, and examination. The team tested 3,294 pairs of two different types of military-issue boots with the goal of determining the acceptability of the shoes when issues to the entire military population.For more information on Peter V.
