    Calculation of the potential for interaction of particles with complex atomic structures

    We present a method for calculation of the potential and related physical quantities experienced by a particle traversing an aligned periodic complex atomic structure. Classical physics equations and the expansion of periodic functions as a Fourier series have been used for the calculation. Based on this method, we have developed the ECHARM program, which calculates one- and two-dimensional averaged physical quantities of interest along the main axes of any orthorhombic and tetragonal structure. For the case of cubic symmetry, the calculation holds for any orientation. Complex structures such as zeolites have been worked out to show the capability of the program. © 2010 The American Physical Society

    ECHARM - A software for calculation of physical quantities of interest in coherent interaction of relativistic particles with crystals

    We present an analytical model to calculate the physical quantities of interest experienced by relativistic particles in their motion aligned with periodic complex atomic structure. Classical physics equations and the expansion of periodic functions as a Fourier series have been used for the calculation. This method allows to calculate the contribution from all the planes and axes inside the crystal, in contrast to other simulation codes for which the motion is evaluated only on nearest neighbors atomic strings. Based on the calculation technique we have developed the “ECHARM” program, which allows to calculate one- and two- dimensional averaged physical quantities of interest. The calculation holds for the main axes of any orthorhombic and tetragonal structures and for any orientation in the cubic structure. To underline the capability of the program, complex structures such as zeolites have been worked out. Based on the “ECHARM” code, simulation of the relativistic particle motion within complex structures has been developed. With this code it is possible to simulate the motion in bent crystal to study planar and axial channeling volume reflection

    Channeling radiation of multi-GeV positrons in single crystals

    The process of radiation of 120 GeV positrons moving in a channeling regime in (011) plane of a single crystal was considered. At the beginning on the basis of the theory of nonlinear oscillations, the trajectory of moving positrons at different initial conditions was derived. Then taking into account the nonlinearity of motion, the distribution function over oscillation amplitudes of channeling particles was found. After this, the intensity of radiation at different initial conditions was calculated with the help of two various methods. These results may be useful for comparison with experimental data at positron energies from 100 and more GeV

    Photoproduction of electron-positron pairs in bent single crystals

    The process of photoproduction of electron-positron pairs in bent single crystals is considered. This consideration is based on the theory of coherent pairproduction in straight single crystals and take into account the linear polarization of the photon beam. In particular, it is shown that the probability of the process for gamma quanta with energies from 100 GeV is significantly higher than the one in an amorphous medium. The positive features of the photoproduction in bent crystals compared to straight ones are underlined from the point of view of possible applications

    The activity of IHEP (Protvino) is made on some directions within the framework of the INTAS program. Experiments to study the volume reflection effect and the capability of its use in the beam scraper and extraction systems are planned. Both analytical estimation and computer simulation of these processes at the Y-70 with silicon, tungsten and carbon crystals are performed. Possibility of volume reflection in crystals for ultra-high protons at accelerators like SPS and LHC is studied

    Emission of photons by positrons channeled in single crystals near an energy of 100 GeV
