Efficient representations of upper limits and confidence intervals for experimental data
Upper limits and confidence intervals are a convenient way to presentexperimental results. With modern experiments producing more and more data, itis often necessary to reduce the volume of the results. A common approach is totake a maximum over a set of upper limits, which yields an upper limit validfor the entire set. This, however, can be very inefficient. In this paper weintroduce functional upper limits and confidence intervals that allow tosummarize results much more efficiently. An application to upper limits inall-sky continuous gravitational wave searches is worked out, with a method ofderiving upper limits using linear programming.<br

Loosely coherent searches for medium scale coherence lengths
The search for continuous gravitational waves demands computationally efficient algorithms that can handle highly non-linear parameter spaces. Loosely coherent algorithms establish upper limits and detect signals by analyzing families of templates as a single unit. We describe a new computationally efficient loosely coherent search intended for spotlight and all-sky searches over medium scale coherence lengths (20000-1000000 sec)
