Ničnost Dao v Daodejing: Mereološka interpretacija
No full textThis article is based on my mereological reconstruction of the Daoist metaphysical system, as presented in the Daodejing. I conceptualize the Dao and you relationship as a relationship between Unrestricted Composition (for any entities, there is a composition that they make) and Restricted Composition (what is an entity is determined by finite composition rules) respectively. This conceptualization, among other things, makes it possible to address the way in which Dao is described as wu—nothingness or non-being. In this article, I will show that Dao as the ultimate reality in Daoist metaphysics is not an ontological nothingness and discuss how this “nothingness characteristic” can be mereologically reconstructed and explained. I will discuss the interpretation of Dao in terms of Mereological Nihilism (according to which there are only mereological simples that do not have parts and are not parts of any complex entities), Unrestricted Composition, and consider an option in which mereology is confined exclusively to relationships between parts. I will also discuss how the nothingness aspect of Dao can be viewed from a stuff ontology perspective, which questions the ontological standing of parts.Ta članek temelji na moji mereološki rekonstrukciji daoističnega metafizičnega sistema, kot je predstavljen v Daodejing. Razmerje med Dao in you pojmujem kot razmerje med neomejeno sestavo (za vse entitete obstaja sestava, ki jo tvorijo) in omejeno sestavo (kaj je entiteta, določajo končna pravila sestave). Ta konceptualizacija med drugim omogoča obravnavo načina, na katerega je Dao opisan kot wu – ničnost ali nebivanje. V svoji predstavitvi pokažem, da Dao kot končna realnost v daoistični metafiziki ni ontološka ničnost, ter razpravljam o tem, kako je mogoče to »značilnost ničnosti« mereološko rekonstruirati in pojasniti. Obravnavam interpretacijo Dao v smislu mereološkega nihilizma (po katerem obstajajo le mereološke enostavne entitete, ki nimajo delov in niso deli nobenih kompleksnih entitet), neomejene sestave, in razmišljam o možnosti, da je mereologija omejena izključno na odnose med deli. No full textCharitable decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) have emerged as a promising alternative approach to philanthropy. This thesis investigates the po- tential of charitable DAOs as an alternative to traditional charities, focusing on the technical, governance, and practical aspects of developing and implementing a DAO model tailored to the specific needs of the charity sector. The ultimate goal is to create a more transparent, accountable, and efficient philanthropic land- scape. The methodology employed in this research includes a literature review and short case studies to build a foundational understanding of DAOs and their relevance within the nonprofit sector associated with charitable organizations. Additionally, the research involves the development of a prototype DAO to prac- tically demonstrate the implementation and functioning of the proposed model. The conclusion summarizes the primary findings and contributions of the re- search, discusses limitations and future research directions, and provides implementation recommendations for the DAO as well as the reporting process.Charitativní decentralizované autonomní organizace (DAO) se objevily jako slibný alternativní přístup k filantropii. Tato diplomová práce zkoumá potenciál charitativních DAO jako alternativy k tradičním charitativním organizacím a zaměřuje se na technické, řídicí a praktické aspekty vývoje a implementace modelu DAO přizpůsobeného specifickým potřebám charitativního sektoru. Konečným cílem je vytvořit transparentnější, odpovědnější a efektivnější filantropický prostor. Metodika použitá v této práci zahrnuje přehled literatury a krátké případové studie s cílem vytvořit základní představu o DAO a jejich významu v rámci neziskového sektoru spojeného s charitativními organizacemi. Kromě toho tato diplomová práce zahrnuje vývoj prototypu DAO, který má prakticky demonstrovat implementaci a fungování navrhovaného modelu. Závěr shrnuje hlavní zjištění a přínosy, diskutuje omezení a budoucí směry výzkumu a poskytuje doporučení pro implementaci DAO i pro proces vykazování
First Deployed DAO with True Full Decentralisation
No full textBlockchain technology has allowed for the emergence of a new type of organization, the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). They have gained significant traction in recent years, reaching market capitalizations of up to 60 billion USD in 2021. These organizations coordinate economic activity by an unbounded group of people within an adversarial environment. However, despite their potential, currently deployed DAOs face notable challenges related to centralization in governance and infrastructure. This work addresses these limitations by proposing a novel architecture for a fully decentralized DAO with no compromises. We introduce a scalable governance protocol utilizing multi-signature schemes to manage shared assets effectively. To demonstrate the feasibility of our approach, we implement, deploy, and evaluate a real-world DAO called Music DAO. Music DAO serves as a compelling use case, enabling listeners to collectively invest in and listen to their favorite artists. This research represents a significant advancement in the field of decentralized organizations, with the potential to revolutionize the way people collaborate and organize themselves.Computer Science | Data Science and Technolog
Impulse ageing of polymeric materials
No full textImpulse over-voltage is a common phenomenon in electric power systems. A switching impulse is created by a switching surge or local fault while a lightning impulse is due to direct lightning strike to high voltage plant such as an overhead line. Both impulse events create travelling waves in the system, damaging insulation components and equipment. This work is concerned with the hypothesis that lightning impulses can lead to accelerated ageing of extruded polymeric cables. The results show that there may well be a reduction in electric field strength of the insulation of a power cable that experiences a lot of impressed lightning impulse over-voltages. Pre-designed shaped polyethylene material sample discs have been manufactured using a mould tool. The samples then have been electrically aged using an impulse generator. A real-time software based monitoring tool has been designed to control the impulse wave-shape and process the measurement data. Sets of identical lightning impulses were applied to samples and this was then followed by ramped AC breakdown tests. The obtained results were analyzed using the Weibull distribution to identify any differences in lifetime between aged and un-aged samples. This thesis also provides insight into the dominant ageing processes through the analysis of dielectric spectroscopy and space charge measurement data. In order to quantify the effects of dielectric ageing due to impressed lighting impulse over voltages, experiments have also been undertaken using samples that have been aged under UV light and thermally. Perfective Marker Dao in the Nanjiang Dialect
No full textThis thesis examines the perfective marker dao in the Nanjiang dialect and traces such usage in history. The morpheme dao in the language variety can be used as perfective marker in a variety of constructions, whereas in the Early Modern Chinese period dao's perfective use was relatively limited: measure phrases are employed to modify either the main verb or the object of a transitive verb. By reflecting on semantic changes of dao taking place in Early Modern Chinese, we suggest that relativization is a key step in the development of dao as an aspectual marker, that is, V(erb) dao O(bject) may be a direct reanalysis of V dao (as a modifier) + Head Noun, different from what is assumed in the literature, the substitution/analogy hypothesis about how the object of a transitive verb is placed after the post-verbal particles like le.Master of Arts (M.A.

No full textEnquiring into the first chapter of Liu Xiang’s Lienü Zhuan 列女傳, this paper points out the consolidation of the spatial distinction of nei/wai and the ethical construction of womanhood in the Former Han period. In this analysis we will underline the “in-between” position of women depicted by the author and consider their position as based on a metaphorical—but sometimes even physical—threshold. It highlights six categories in Liu Xiang’s work that help us understand a traditional vision of woman that is reviving in modern times. Even today, the Way of Women (fu dao 妇道) is one of the principles on which social harmony is based; breaching the Way of Woman leads to disruptive consequences both within the family and outside, within society.Avtorica na osnovi preučevanja prvega poglavja Liu Xiangove knjige Lienü Zhuan 列女傳 (Biografije zglednih žensk) obravnava konsolidacijo prostorskega razlikovanja med nei in wai ter etično konstrukcijo ženskosti v obdobju dinastije Zahodni Han. Poudari položaj žensk »v in med« ter ga obravnava na osnovi metaforičnega – včasih celo fizičnega – praga. Članek nadalje osvetli šest kategorij v Liu Xiangovi knjigi. Te pripomorejo k razumevanju tradicionalnega pogleda na ženske, ki se ponovno oživlja v sodobnem času. Tudi danes je namreč pot ženske fu dao 妇道 eno osnovnih načel, na katerem temelji družbena harmonija, kršitev te poti pa vodi k motečim posledicam tako v družini kot v širši družbi
A Study of Constructions V-dao, V-zhao, and V-zhong in Mandarin Chinese

「到」、「著」及「中」所組成的複合詞，研究“V-到”、“V-著”及“V-中”構式與動詞間的語義融合關係。構式就像詞彙一樣，具有多義性。本文透過中研院平衡語料庫找出這三個構式的多義。“V-到”構式語意為：(a) 抵達 (b) 得到 (c) 正中 (d) 碰觸 (e) 數量增減累積的過程 (f) 持續累積；“V-著”構式語意為：(a) 附著 (b) 得到 (c) 碰觸 (d) 正中；“V-中”構式語意為：(a) 正中 (b) 得到。這三個構式由於在語意上有所重疊與差異，對構式中動詞的融合也就有所不同。當構式意義為「正中」時，動詞與三構式間的語意關係為方法，動詞放入構式後所形成的複合詞皆為近義詞。構式語意為「得到」時，“V-到”構式和動詞融合後的語意關係有三，「方法」、「次分類」及「前提」。“V-著”構式和動詞融合的語意關係僅為「方法」，“V-中”構式和動詞融合後語意關係為「前提」。因此，就和動詞語意關係為方法的“V-到”及“V-著”構式與“V-中”構式和動詞融合語意關係不同，而使得複合詞彼此間的關係有所不同。基於以上分析結果，配合賓語範圍大小、主事者意圖、隱喻延伸，進一步將“V-到”、“V-著”及“V-中”構式所組成複合詞中近義詞做延伸探討，找出近義詞彼此間的細微區別。本文共分六章：第一章為緒論。第二章回顧傳統語言學家對述補複合詞的分析，也討論傳統觀點的不足。第三章介紹本文的理論背景。第四章找出“ V-到”、“V-著”及“V-中”構式的多義。第五章利用Goldberg(1995)提出動詞和構式間關係來探討本文研究問題。第六章為結論。[[abstract]]My thesis aims at discussing V-V compounds of constructions V-dao, V-zhao, and V-zhong. We explore the three constructions V-dao, V-zhao and V-zhong with cognitive approaches, including Construction Grammar approach, prototype theory, radial categorization, polysemy, and metaphor extensions. According to Construction Grammar approach (Lakoff, 1987; Goldberg, 1995), constructions are treated as lexical items, which can also be polysemous. Constructions also exhibit radial categorization in their polysemy like ordinary lexical items. The following constructional meanings were observed from examples in Academia Sinica Balanced Corpus. The constructional meanings of V-dao construction are (a) to arrive, (b) to get, (c) to hit the target, (d) to touch, (e) the process of increasing or decreasing the numbers, and (f) to accumulate for a while. The constructional meanings of V-zhao construction are (a) to adhere (b) to get (c) to touch (d) to hit the target. The constructional meanings of V-zhong construction are (a) to hit the target (b) to get. Following Goldberg (1995), we analyze the semantic relations between verbs and constructions in V-dao, V-zhao, and V-zhong. The semantic relations between verbs and V-dao construction are means, subtype, and precondition. The semantic relations between verbs and V-zhao construction are means and subtype. The semantic relations between verbs and V-zhong construction are means and precondition.
This thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction. Chapter 2 presents a literature review of V-R compounds. Chapter 3 presents the theoretical framework of Construction Grammar. Chapter 4 explores the polysemy in ‘V-dao’,
‘V-zhao’ and ‘V-zhong’ constructions. Chapter 5 discusses the semantic relations between verbs and constructions. Chapter 6 is the conclusion.[[note]]碩
