Vojta Benes - his life and legacy in north Pilsen

    No full text
ObhájenoVojta Benes was a Czech teacher, politician, writer and brother of President Edvard Benes. His work of life remains diminished. Vojta Benes became an important Czech teacher not only in the Czech lands, but also he devoted to the education of children of Czech compatriots in America during the First World War. In the US, he focused on resistance activity during the First World War. After his return he became a respected school inspector and a deputy and subsequently a senator. He continued his resistance activity during World War II and partly during the communist regime. All his life he was a member of the Social Democratic Party. In the theoretical part of my Bachelor thesis I deal with the life of Vojta Benes with the most important moments in his life with the aim to create a brief biography. I partly try to emphasize Vojta's influence on the Pilsen region, so I also focus on his close family and birthplace. Furthermore, I focus on his political activities, including the history of social democracy. And finally, I focus on his writing activities with regional themes. In the practical part I find out what kind of awareness of Vojta Benes have the children at the Primary School of Dr. Edvard Benes in Kozlany, his birthplace. The survey was in the form of questionnaires

The Benes Decrees and the Accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union

    No full text
The thesis examines the Benes decrees and the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union. The paper focuses on legal issues concerning compatibility of the legal order of the Czech Republic, having the Benes decrees as its integral part, with so called acquis communautaire -- legal order of the European Union. The thesis aims to answer the question of what legal issues challenged the readiness of the Czech republic to join the European Union. The first chapter explaines the term Benes decrees and defines which decrees are relevant to the accession to the EU. The following chapter focuses on the role of the Benes decrees in the Czech legal order as well as on the conditions for EU membership. The last chapter compares four legal opinions concerning the Benes decrees and their compatibility with acquis communautaire. In conclusion, the thesis provides an answer to the research question as set down in the introduction

An efficient representation of Benes networks and its applications

AbstractThe most popular bounded-degree derivative network of the hypercube is the butterfly network. The Benes network consists of back-to-back butterflies. There exist a number of topological representations that are used to describe butterfly—like architectures. We identify a new topological representation of butterfly and Benes networks. The minimum metric dimension problem is to find a minimum set of vertices of a graph G(V,E) such that for every pair of vertices u and v of G, there exists a vertex w with the condition that the length of a shortest path from u to w is different from the length of a shortest path from v to w. It is NP-hard in the general sense. We show that it remains NP-hard for bipartite graphs. The algorithmic complexity status of this NP-hard problem is not known for butterfly and Benes networks, which are subclasses of bipartite graphs. By using the proposed new representations, we solve the minimum metric dimension problem for butterfly and Benes networks. The minimum metric dimension problem is important in areas such as robot navigation in space applications

Some remarks on the continuity of random closed sets

    No full text
A concept of absolutely continuous random closed set has been recently introduced by the authors, in terms of the absolute continuity of a suitable mean content measure associated with its boundary, with respect to the usual Lebesgue measure. It is shown that our definition of continuity, respectively absolute continuity, of random closed sets can be seen as an extension of the standard definition of continuous, respectively absolutely continuous, random variables (or random vectors); in particular absolute continuity implies continuity, in our stochastic geometric context too. It is then compared with definitions of continuity of random closed sets that have already appeared in the relevant literature. Examples show how the definition proposed by the present authors is of interest in many significant applications

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice nastolování agendy a vztahu médií a politiky. Práce se zaměřuje na téma Benešových dekretů v českém prostředí. Tyto dvě témata spolu souvisela v roce 2013, a to v rámci historicky první přímé volby prezidenta v České republice. Práce čerpá z teoretických konceptů nastolování agendy od Maxwella E. McCombse and Donalda L. Shawa. Snažíme se také přijít na to, proč je téma Benešových dekretů stále tak kontroverzní a proč sehrálo důležitou roli v roce 2013.Katedra politologie a mezinárodních vztahůObhájenoThis work deals with an agenda setting theory and relationship between media and politics. The work specifically focuses on the issue of the Beneš decrees in the Czech environment. These two phenomena were linked together in the very first presidential election in the Czech Republic in 2013. Main used theoretical concepts come from Walter Lippmann, Maxwell E. McCombs and Donald L. Shaw who describe process of agenda setting. Theory of priming and framing introduce Susan T. Fiske and Shelley E. Taylor. The aim of this thesis is to describe the media image of the Benes Decrees and its influence on the election contest. The theme of the Benes decrees is still controversial and raises sharp debate among citizens in the Czech Republic. In our work, we will also, inter alia, to compare the degree of media attention in the four Czech dailies Mladá Fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny, Právo and Blesk, a tabloid. Research also includes foreign journals such as German Süddeutche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Die Welt, Austrian Kleine Zeitung, Der Standart and British BBC. Using the media database ANOPRESS we generated data. For the data collection, we have chosen the content analysis as the main methodology for our research. In this work, we try to find out why the theme of the Benes decrees is still controversial in Czech environment as well as we find out what role the theme has played in the presidential election in 2013

Evaluation of the energy consumption per bit in BENES optical packet switch

    No full text
We evaluate the average energy consumption per bit in Optical Packet Switches equipped with BENES switching fabric realized in Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) technology. We also study the impact that the Amplifier Spontaneous Emission (ASE) noise generated by a transmission system has on the power consumption of the BENES switches due to the gain saturation of the SOAs used to realize the switching fabric. As a matter of example for 32x32 switches supporting 64 wavelengths and offered traffic equal to 0,8, the average energy consumption per bit is 2, 34.10 -1 nJ/bit and increases if ASE noise introduced by the transmission systems is increased. © 2011 IEEE
