Passively Q-switched Er-Yb double clad fiber laser with Cr2+:ZnSe and Co2+:MgAl2O4 as a saturable absorber

Passive Q-switching of fiber lasers with saturable absorbers have attracted attention because of simplicity and high efficiency. However, the number of known materials which can be used as a saturable absorber is relatively limited due to the features of fiber lasers. While liquefying gallium mirror, semiconductor structures (SESAM), as well as Co2+:ZnSe and Co2+:ZnS crystals are recent examples of saturable absorbers that have been used in Q-switched fiber lasers, any new material which can be used for this is still very interesting. Here we report, for the first time to our knowledge, a cladding-pumped passively Q-switched Er-Yb codoped fiber laser with Cr2+:ZnSe and Co2+:MgAl2O4 as saturable absorbers. The fiber laser configuration consists of a 5m circular double-clad Er-Yb codoped fiber and an external cavity. Pump light at 915nm was coupled into the fiber through a perpendicularly cleaved fiber end facet. This also serves as a 4% reflecting, outcoupling, cavity mirror. In the other end of the cavity a lens system and a high-reflection (1550 nm) mirror provided external feedback. The lens system had an intermediate focus, where the saturable absorber was located. The intermediate focus waist diameter was typically 20 µm. We used the same laser configuration for both the Cr2+:ZnSe and the Co2+:MgAl2O4 crystals. The maximum average output power for both crystals was 1.4 W, for 6.5 W of absorbed pump power. The maximum obtained pulse energy was 18 pJ (45W peak power) with Cr2+:ZnSe saturable absorber. Typical pulse duration was 370 - 700 ns. The repetition rate was varied between 20 and 85 kHz.The maximum pulse energy was 22 pJ (60W peak power) with Co2+:MgAl2O4 saturable absorber. The pulse duration was 370 - 600 ns. The repetition rate was varied between 15 and 65kHz.Further details and comparisons of fiber lasers passively Q-switched with Cr2+:ZnSe and Co2+:MgAl2O4 crystals will be presented

Diode-pumped thulium lasers emitting in the spectral range near 2 μm are attractive for applications in different areas: surgery, rangefinding, and environmental atmosphere monitoring. In this article the latest results of Tm:KYW laser performance with a polycrystalline Cr:ZnSe as the most available saturable absorber for 2 μm spectral region are presented.A maximum continuous-wave output power of ≈ 0.65 W with a slope efficiency of 55 % was obtained at the wavelength of 1940 nm. Laser pulses with energy of 26 μJ and repetiotion rate of 6 kHz coresponding to 156 mW of average output power at 1910 nm were obtained at 2.2 W of incident puwp power for the Cr:ZnSe saturable absorber with initial transmission of 95 %. By using of saturable absorber with lower initial transmission of 90 % laser pulses with energy of 40 μJ and duration as short as 10 ns were realized. The maximal pulse repetition rate was 2.8 kHz at incident pump power of 2.2 W.Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that Tm:KYW crystals are promising active media for the compact passively Q-switched lasers emitting in the spectral range near 2 μm for the usage in surgery and rangefinding. Also, described laser is planned to be used as a laser source in laser-induced damage threshold measurements setup for investigation of damage threshold of saturable absorbers as well as nonlinear crystals at the wavelength near 2 μm.

Mikhaylov[6] Abstract:  The article deals with the problem of influence of social factors on the name giving process with taking into account their motivation. The authors carry out a survey by means of the questionnaire, specify and prove the existing theory of social origin of name giving process motivation. Onyms are considered as linguistic units, and the process of changing their semantic structure under the influence of their social factors is studied.  For detailed studying of the subject, a complex analysis was carried out, which includes such techniques as comparison, classification and evaluation. The research is relevant in the linguistic, social, national and cognitive aspects, as it demonstrates an interaction between language and society. As a result, social motives of name giving process were classified that determine future development of anthroponymicon. Keywords: onym; name giving process; onomastic; social motives; onomastic universalia; anthroponym; national motivation; name giving; religious motivation; ideological motivation.[1] PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor, Foreign Languages for Engineering Chair Institute of Humanities Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University[2] PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor, Foreign Languages for Engineering Chair Institute of Humanities Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University[3]PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor, Department of Foreign Languages for Engineering Chair Institute of Humanities Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University[4] PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor, Foreign Languages for Engineering Chair, Institute of Humanities, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University,[5] PhD in Linguistics, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Document Science and Archive Science, Institute of Humanities, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University[6] PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor, Department of Foreign Languages for Engineering Chair Institute of Humanities Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical Universit
