    학위논문 (석사) -- 서울대학교 대학원 : 인문대학 국어국문학과, 2020. 8. 방민호.이 논문은 김성종(金聖鍾, 1941~)의 1980년대 장편 추리소설을 살펴봄으로써 김성종의 추리기법을 고찰한다. 김성종은 『최후의 증인』(1977), 『여명의 눈동자』(1975-1981)와 그의 초기 단편집으로 잘 알려져 있는 작가다. 이에 김성종은 한국 대표 추리작가로 인정받으면서도, 그동안 그의 작품을 대상으로 한 연구는 김성종의 초기작 분석에 집중하는 경향이 강했다. 그러나 초기작 외에도 김성종의 작품에서는 여러 형태의 추리기법이 강하게 드러나고 있으며, 특히, 김성종의 80년대 소설들은 추리 특징을 선명하게 드러낸다. 본고는 김성종의 추리기법이 80년대 장편 소설을 통해서 나타나고 있음을 밝힌다. 2장에서는 김성종의 소설이 토도로프가 「탐정소설의 유형」에서 제시한 추리소설의 유형 중 서스펜스(suspense)와 스릴러(thriller)의 특징을 지니고 있음을 검토한다. 서스펜스(suspense) 유형은 『얼어붙은 시간』(1984)의 분석을 통해서 확인할 것이며, 스릴러(thriller) 유형은 『나는 살고 싶다』(1981)를 검토 대상으로 삼아 논할 것이다. 특히 주인공 탐정 인물의 유형, 플롯의 구성, 서술의 형태 등 소설의 구조 요소들을 모두 고려함으로써, 탐정이라는 인물 유형의 중요성을 강조할 필요가 있다고 장하려 한다. 또한, 본고는 고첸푸드가 지적한 것처럼 추리소설을 예술 작품으로 보고자 하는데, 관련하여, 추리소설에서 나타나는 게임 요소들에 주목한다. 3장에서는 브왈로-나르스작의 역사적 접근을 참고하여 김성종의 소설에 나타난 영미와 프랑스 추리소설의 전통을 살펴볼 것이다. 영미 전통은 게임 요소들을 통해서 나타나며, 프랑스 전통은 탐정의 유형을 통해서 나타난다는 나르스작의 주장을 집중적으로 검토하여 이를 『비련의 화인』 (1985), 『일곱 개의 장미 송이』 (1980) 등을 통해서 볼 것이다. 등장인물들 간에 벌어지는 게임, 혹은 옷이나 목소리의 변장, 신원이나 서류의 변경, 화폐나 사물의 위조, 가짜 피해자의 등장 등을 영미 추리소설의 전통에 해당하는 것으로 고려해볼 것이다. 그리고 프랑스 추리소설의 특징인 경찰 탐정이 주요 역할을 하는 것과 피해자, 또는 피의자가 탐정의 역할을 하는 식의 서사 구조의 의미를 검토할 것이다. 4장에서 김성종 작품의 심리적인 요소들과 그의 문체가 지닌 특성을 검토할 것이다. 이러한 맥락에서『피아노 살인』(1985)은 특히 중요한 작품이므로, 이 소설을 집중적으로 분석할 것이다. 또한, 바흐친이 도스토예프스키에 대해 논의한 「도스또예프스끼의 창작에서 주인공에 대한 작가의 입장과 주인공」을 참고하여 검토할 것이다. 도스토예프스키의 작품을 경유하여 김성종에게 인간이 무엇인지, 또 살인을 하는 인물을 주인공으로 설정한 이유가 무엇인지 등을 해석할 것이다. 그리고 김성종의 문체, 시공간의 문제가 어떤 특징을 가지고 있는지 살펴볼 것이다. 김성종이 도시와 자연의 묘사에 집중하는 이유가 무엇인지 검토하며, 이를 통해 김성종이 작품의 분위기를 어떻게 만드는지 확인할 것이다. 또한, 본고에서는 필자가 김성종과 직접 만나 2019년 12월에 실시한 인터뷰[본 논문의 참고]의 내용이 그의 소설을 해석하고 김성종의 삶에 정보를 얻는 데 도움이 된다고 판단하여, 논의를 진행하는 과정에서 해당 인터뷰를 참고하려 한다. 김성종은 한국 추리소설 장르 작가 중 가장 잘 알려진 작가로, 오늘날에도 지속적으로 활동하는 것이 특징이다. 본 연구의 목적은 김성종이 독자를 즐겁게 하기 위해 살인을 묘사하려는 것이 아니라, 그보다 더 깊은 철학적인 문제를 보여주기 위한 추리소설을 쓴다고 주장하려는 것이다. 즉 김성종의 작품은 삶의 의미와 인간의 역할 등에 대한 문제제기를 통해서 독자와 대화하는 것이다.This study focuses on Kim Seong-jong's 1980s detective novels. Kim Seong-jongs works are very important in the history of Korean modern literature, but they have not been studied enough. Kim Seong-jong became one of the most famous writers of the detective genre after liberation. His best-known works are The last witness, 1979 and Eyes of dawn, 1981 and most studies concentrates either on these two novels or on his early short stories. But his later works also deserve attention in context of detective novels features. The general purpose of the study is to analyze Kim Sung-Jongs 1980s novels and find out which features of the detective genre appear in this period. Chapter 2 examines the elements of suspense and thriller genres in Kim Seong-jongs novels, concentrating on the analysis of The Frozen Time (1984) and I want to live (1981). To explain this, it is necessary to look through The Typology of Detective Fiction (1966) by Tzvetan Todorov and find what he considers to be suspense and thriller types of detective fiction. It is also important to consider all the structural elements of the novel, such as the type of the protagonist, the composition of the plot, and the form of narrative. It is also necessary to examine the type of detective character. Chapter 3 discusses Mark of love (1985), Seven Roses (1980) etc. in terms of the historical approach made by Boileau-Narcejac who claimed that it is possible to divide detective fiction to Anglo-American and French tradition. To do this so-called game phenomenon, such as games that characters play with each other, change of clothes or voices, replacement of documents, money or objects; fake victims etc. needs to be considered. Further, the meaning of the narrative structure, in which the police and the criminal both can appear as detectives is discussed. Finally, in chapter 4 the psychological elements of Kim Seong-jong's work are explained. This is examined through Piano Murder (1985), and is reviewed by referring to the author's position on the protagonist and the main character comparing with Dostoevsky. Also, Mihail Bakhtin research on Dostoevsky is used to supply this statement. Dostoevsky's notion of human beings helps to understand what it means for Kim Seong-jong and why he has set the murderer as the main character. In addition, the interview conducted with Kim Seong-jong completes this study as one method to find some answers about the writers biography. Kim Seong-jong remains the most important and well recognized Korean author in detective genre and continues to create novels today.     Tailoring nanostructured NbCoSn-based thermoelectric materials via crystallization of an amorphous precursor

    Tailoring nanostructures is nowadays a common approach for enhancing the performance of thermoelectric Heusler compounds by decreasing the thermal conductivity without significantly affecting the electrical conductivity. However, the most widely reported method for obtaining nanostructured thermoelectrics, an approach based on crushing as-cast alloy ingots followed by sintering of the debris, only gives limited control of the final nanostructure due to residual elemental segregation after casting. Here, a novel approach for fabricating nanostructured Heusler compounds is presented, which is based on crystallizing an amorphous precursor of NbCo1.1Sn composition. This method yields two distinct nanostructures, namely one comprising only half-Heusler grains and another one comprising half-Heusler grains and full-Heusler nano-precipitates. The latter sample exhibits enhanced negative Seebeck coefficients as compared to the former over a wide temperature range. Using advanced characterization techniques, such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, in conjunction with ab initio density functional theory, detailed insights into the nanostructure and electrical properties of the specimens are provided.     이 글은 성해응(1760~1839)이 저술한 『연중잡록 』을 초보적으로 이해하는 데 목적을 두었다. 성해응은 부연사행에 참여한 적이 없지만, 중원의 변동에 대비하여 청나라를 심층적으로 이해하기 위해 『연중잡록』을 저술하였다. 이 텍스트에는 여타 연행록에서 잘 확인되지 않는 새로운 내용이 대거 수록되어 있는데, 크게 청 황실의 전용 장소인 궁실‧원림‧행궁, 만주족의 역사와 주변 제 민족통치, 수계와 치수, 청대 인물에 관한 내용이 주를 이룬다. 차기체 필기잡록의 형식으로 저술된 텍스트에 수록된 내용을 통해 청나라의 정치의 방향을 읽는 데 도움이 되는 것을 중심으로 구성하고자 하였다. 텍스트를 이루는 내용은 대부분 중국의 문헌, 그중에서 『건륭어제시집』과 『건륭어제문집』에 수록된 내용을 대거 발췌하여 정리한 것이다. 북경에 다녀온 경험이 없는 저자가 이를 참조할 수 있었던 배경에는 규장각 검서관으로 재직한 이력 때문으로 보인다. 『연중잡록』은 차기체 방식으로 저술된 텍스트로, 박문의 태도로 고증학을 중시여긴 성해응의 학문 태도가 그대로 투영된 저서라 할 수 있다. 이는 체험에 바탕을 둔 연행록은 아니나 북경을 새롭게 이해하는 데 유용한 자료로 쓰이기를 의도했다고 할 수 있다. This article aims to provide a preliminary understanding of Yeonjungjaprok written by Seong hae-eung (1760∼1839), who never visited Beijing but wrote the book in response to changes in China and to gain a deeper understanding of the Qing dynasty. The text contains a large amount of new content that cannot be seen clearly in other travel records of Beijing; this content mainly pertains to the exclusive venues of the Qing royal family, their palaces and gardens, the history of the Manchu people and the role of surrounding ethnic groups, the water in Beijing and water management in south-eastern China, and Qing dynasty characters. The author attempted to organize the content in the form of notes and miscellaneous records (筆記雜錄) to help clarify the Qing dynasty’s political trends. The majority of the text is based on Chinese literature, among which a large number of excerpts, including arrangements, were taken from the Collection of Poems by Emperor Qianlong (『乾隆御製詩集』). Authors without prior experience in Beijing can refer to this book possibly due to their experience as a geomseogwan at Kyujanggak. Yeonjungjaprok was written in the form of Chagi, which can be said to reflect Seong hae-eung’s academic attitude as someone who values textual research in the style of a blog. Although this is not an experiential Yeonhaengnok, it is evidently intended to be useful information in elucidating a new understanding of Beijing

    Institutions for more sustainable cities: eco-efficiency and equity improvements for better environmental management

    Along with the rapid urbanization of growing populations and the affluence of consumer society, the goal of sustainable development becomes a core challenge of managing highly urbanized cities. The N-shaped EKC implies that Korean cities have recently failed to prevent the occurrence of the second turning point where increasing generation of waste began to accompany rising income. The cross-sectional comparison of household income shows that well-off households generate more waste compared to those with fewer resources. The construction projects of large-scale facilities are not designed to the appropriate scale of industrial ecosystems for small players. Market failures put constraints on the function of the markets for recyclables and recycled products. The adversarial politics of authoritarian technocrats in favor of capital creates a structural barrier to democratic deliberation for sustainable development. An efficiency-oriented, single-medium approach manages the risks of waste by diverting it, and also aggravates a steady increase in waste generation. The success of sustainable cities depends on a shift in both prevailing paradigms and institutional arrangements. Focusing on the criticality of inducive and deliberative institutions, this research recommends the institutions conducive to eco-efficiency and equity improvements for the better environmental management of sustainable cities. As a lowest effective unit for addressing the sustainability issues, cities need to redefine the appropriate scale for resource-circulating symbiosis, and to dispose of waste close to its source according to the proximity principle. The responsibilities of stakeholders must be proportionate to the waste generation for which they are accountable. For the purpose of affecting the scattered choices that are individually small but cumulatively very large, user involvement can be improved by fine-tuning the policy mix according to the characteristics of corresponding target stakeholders. Procedural participation cannot always work as an easy panacea for equity problems in environmental decision-making, and must move further forward to deliberative democracy. The complementarity based on the subsidiarity principle can guide partnerships among different levels of government, the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders. The upper-level governments need to foster local pilot initiatives by subsidizing and nurturing their transboundary benefits. Finally, as cities are required to fulfill their overall authority and responsibility to their full potential, decentralized governance in its early stage should be oriented toward a substantial process of transferring powers and resources, as well as responsibilities and functions, to local tiers of government and enhancing intermunicipal cooperation.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Seong-Jai Ki

    Cross-cultural comparison of Korean and American social network sites: exploring cultural differences in social relationships and self-presentation

    National culture is being challenged as societies evolve from their homogeneous origins. The theoretical base of this study uses two cultural dimensions, individualism-collectivism (Hofstede, 2001) and high-and low-context cultures (Hall, 1976), to unpack the effects of national culture on social network sites (SNSs). This study explores cultural differences in SNS usage patterns employing multiple methods, a paper-and-pencil survey and a content analysis of SNS profiles of survey respondents. The final analyses include a survey with 602 SNS users (361 college students in the United States and 241 college students in Korea) and a content analysis of 151 online profiles (58 Facebook and 93 Cyworld profiles). The survey findings revealed that SNS relationship patterns replicated those of face-to-face, while reflecting users' cultural orientations. In the survey findings, members of collectivistic cultures maintained SNS relationships more tightly and narrowly. While indicating such closed SNS relationships, they also exhibited lower levels of amount of self-disclosure, higher levels of intimate and vulnerable self-disclosure, and a greater willingness of privacy sharing than members of individualistic cultures. More visually anonymous online profiles also led to their closed SNS relationships by requiring random visitors, including old friends, to attain supplementary information to identify the user. As interdependent entities, members of collectivistic cultures paid more attention to self-presentation behaviors than members of individualistic cultures. The effect of individuals' cultural attitudes on SNS usage was mostly reconfirmed in the comparison by nationality while providing evidence of the effect of national culture. In the findings of the content analysis, Cyworld users from high-context cultures adopted more indirect communication styles that represent high-context cultures than Facebook users who adopted more direct communication styles that represent low-context cultures. The evident influence of national cultures on SNSs suggests revisiting the cultural dimensions, individualism-collectivism and high-and low-context cultures, to explore how they may explain patterns specific to particular cultures. The findings also suggest that international versions of SNS services that may be developed with the assumption of homogenous global populations of users need to be designed with the consideration of how culture influences use and shapes SNS behaviors.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 170-178)by Seong Eun Ch

    An application of diagnostic modeling to a situational judgment test assessing emotional intelligence

    This study directly addresses important psychometric issues concerning emotional intelligence situational judgment tests (EI SJTs), including nonsensical dimensionality results, ambiguous facet constructs, and low Cronbach’s alpha, and then introduces an alternative methodology, cognitive diagnostic modeling (CDM), which seems to provide a better framework for the item level multidimensionality of these measures. This dissertation is the first study investigating the multidimensional nature of SJTs assessing EI using the CDM approach. Two ultimate purposes of this study include better understanding of the EI construct and advancing the psychometric analysis of EI measures assessed with the SJT format. The results of this study found that there are five dimensions underlying an SJT measuring emotion understanding (STEU) and they tend to have noncompensatory relationships. An SJTs measuring emotion management (STEM) showed four strategies required to perform well on the test, which interact in a compensatory manner. As hypothesized, the G-DINA (generalized deterministic inputs, noisy “and” gate) model best reproduced the SJT data among the other reduced models due to its statistical generality. However, a higher order structure of EI was not found in the CDM analysis.     Molecular implications of prolonged DDT selection in Drosophila melanogaster

    From the advent of the use of synthetic insecticide in the first half of the twentieth century, insecticide pressure has played a critical role in the evolution of insect populations. Genome-wide monitoring for the effect of such selection has not only provided considerable insight into an understanding of these evolutionary dynamics but also as a way to elucidate changes in individual genes or gene families. Although prior comparative genetic and genomics studies have revealed a large number of individual genes and gene families that may be selectively advantageous for insects over evolutionary time scales, most studies have been limited in that the researchers did not have access to populations within a known common origin for which a given evolutionary selection pressure has been well-defined or documented. In this study, I analyzed the genomes and transcriptomes of a highly DDT-resistant (91-R) Drosophila melanogaster and its corresponding DDT-susceptible (91-C) strain in order to characterize the impact of prolonged DDT selective pressure on genetic diversity for those strains. Comparing the transcriptomic response to DDT in 91-R and 91-C, I identified a multigenic adaptive response to DDT in 91-R along with multiple roles for gene regulatory cascades around stress responses, cell survival, and neurological function. Furthermore, both the genotypic and phenotypic diversity of the phase I detoxification gene, cytochrome P450, as well as phase III detoxification gene, ABC transporter, suggest an adaptive evolutionary response to multigenerational DDT selection pressure between 91-R and 91-C.
