Constraining The Acquisition Of Concepts By The Quality Of Heterogeneous Evidence

    No full text
A model of concept acquisition is proposed, which combines various forms of linguistic and conceptual evidence that arise in the course of text understanding processes. We use terminological classification for the creation and management of concept hypotheses, for their incremental annotation by assertions which reflect the quality of available evidence, and for their subsequent evaluation and selection. Text Knowledge Engineering By Qualitative Terminological Learning

    No full text
We propose a methodology for enhancing domain knowledge bases through natural language text understanding. The acquisition of previously unknown concepts is based on the assessment of the "quality" of linguistic and conceptual evidence underlying the generation and refinement of concept hypotheses. Text understanding and concept learning are both grounded on a terminological knowledge representation and reasoning framework. Quality Control In The Concept Learning Process

    No full text
A text understanding system with learning capabilities is presented. New concepts are acquired by incorporating two kinds of evidence -- knowledge about linguistic constructions in which unknown lexical items occur and knowledge about structural patterns in ontologies such that new concept descriptions can be compared with prior knowledge. On the basis of the quality of evidence gathered this way concept hypotheses are generated, ranked according to plausibility, and the most credible ones are selected for assimilation into the domain knowledge base. Deep Knowledge Discovery From Natural Language Texts

    No full text
We introduce a knowledge-based approach to deep knowledge discovery from real-world natural language texts. Data mining, data interpretation, and data cleaning are all incorporated in cycles of quality-based terminological reasoning processes. The methodology we propose identifies new knowledge items and assimilates them into a continuously updated domain knowledge base. We propose a new, knowledge-based methodology for deep knowledge discovery from natural language documents. Data mining, data interpretation, and data cleaning are all incorporated in a terminological reasoning process. We exploit qualitative knowledge about linguistic phenomena in natural language texts and structural configurations in text and domain knowledge bases to generate concept hypotheses, rank them according to plausibility, and select the most credible ones for knowledge assimilation.
