Italian Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy (IFIB): strengthening the network in the Euro-mediterranean area and promoting industry and industry-University partnerships
The EUROMED Invest Academy «New innovation networks and Role of Business Support Organizations" was organized in the framework of the EUROMED Invest project by the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with CEEBA and AFAEMME, with the coordination of
the Med Alliance Consortium (ANIMA Investment Network, ASCAME, Eurochambres and the EMDC “Euro-Med Development Center for micro, small and medium Enterprises” Foundation).
The Academy included two parallel seminars on “Foreign Direct Investment promotion & Investors Servicing” and “Business support services for existing SMEs & new entrepreneurs” aiming to present FDI opportunities, classical
investment methods and funds, private support agencies support, new innovation networks and clusters and to promote mutual understanding and new ways of working.
In this framework, the Italian Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy was introduced as an example of "best practice" to enhance the cooperation between research centres (Universites) and Industry aimed at pursuing innovation, economic development, training of specialized personnel through a joint effort
New industrial enzymatic catalysts for the functionalization of nucleosides of pharma interest
Regioselective enzymatic hydrolysis of hexa-O-acetyl-lactal in a green non-aqueous medium
A purified lipase fraction from Rhizomucor miehei (RML) was immobilized and used to selectively hydrolyze hexa-O-acetyl-lactal (1) to penta-O-acetyl-3-hydroxylactal (2). The reaction was performed in low-water content tert-butanol (7% USP water), thus allowing the control of by-product formation. This solvent was superior to the established buffer/acetonitrile system in terms of reagent/product solubility, biocatalyst stability and environmental impact. The reaction was scaled up till 28 g/L (50 mM) affording the product 2 in very high yield (85%) and purity (98%)
Protemics approaches to elucidate the orientation of immobilized enzymes: PGA, a case of study
One-pot synthesis of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-1,3,6-tri-O-acetyl-apha-D-glucopyranose as intermediate for the synthesis of N-acetyl-D-lactosamine octaacetate
1,2-Dithiolan-3-ones and derivatives structurally related to leinamycin. Synthesis and biological evaluation
Leinamycin, an antitumor antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces sp., shows a 1,2-dithiolan-3-one 1-oxide heterocycle that appears to be involved in the biological activity. Several derivatives related to 1,2-dithiolan-3-one 1-oxide have been prepared and their activity as antineoplastic agents have been investigated. The synthesized compounds did not display a significative antitumor or cytotoxic activity in vitro
