Queer In The Great Outdoors

Our panelists will touch on many topics like how empowering a shared joy in nature can be for queer folks, what it\u27s like to be trans on the trail, and what LGBTQ+ organizations are doing to promote outdoor stewardship in Maine and New England. Travis Clough
Travis grew up on the banks of the Penobscot River and developed a deep connection with mountains from an early age. A love of the outdoors has informed the many places he\u27s lived across the country. After his most recent stint in the Pacific Northwest exploring the Cascades, he has finally returned to his home State of Maine having arrived just a few months shy of the pandemic. Travis was most recently the director of trip operations at The Venture Out Project (ventureoutproject.com), a LGBT/Queer outdoor organization based in Northampton, Massachusetts. He is now combining his love of gear and sewing and making bags under the name T⚡Bag. Find him at @t_bag_maine. Travis became a Registered Maine Guide in the summer of 2020. Steven Pinkham
Steve, who grew up in western Maine, comes from a family of Maine guides and lumbermen, then left to go to college, earned a degree in Recreation Leadership, and worked for 10 years at the Hartford YMCA\u27s Camp Jewell. An avid hiker and paddler, he has climbed over 250 mountains in New England and canoed down many of its rivers. He joined the New England-based Chiltern Mountain Club in 1983, was president during the club\u27s 20th and 25th anniversary years, Leadership Trainer for 30 years, and has led over 350 trips and events for that club in the past three decades. Today he is a writer and published his first book Mountains of Maine in 2009. You can purchase Mountains of Maine through Down East Books
