UNU-MERIT at 25 years : how doctoral training at UNU-MERIT contributes to the community of scholars in the economis of innovation?
Get PDFThis paper contributes to literature on the emergence of innovation studies as a scientific field. This area of research documents the mechanisms, interactions and meeting spaces that innovation scholars have developed to give substance and legitimacy to their work. What role is there for the training of young scholars in the development of this scientific field? Based on a web survey of UNU-MERIT's PhD alumni, we explore the ways in which doctoral training at a major research institute has contributed to the formation of young scholars in the broad field of innovation studies. In line with literature on the creation of science and technology human capital, we find that doctoral training grants PhD holders the technical knowledge and skills, together with the relational skills that sustain their membership and scholarly contributions to innovation studies. The evidence likewise suggests that the contribution of UNU-MERIT's PhD programme on the building of innovation research capacities in developing countries is constrained by postgraduate decisions to stay in the developed world. Young scholars follow a career development strategy of linking to mentors and key senior researchers, while scientific interactions with fellow students are more limited. Social interactions tend to be more prominent for maintaining relations with the research community

No full textBisimulation and its asymmetric variant (simulation) are widely used in CCS to compare the behaviour of processes. In CSP, correctness issue is addressed by introducing an ordering relation between an implementation and a specification. This report presents a new operational semantics for CSP, where two closure transitions are added to give a calculus in which simulation and refinement are identical. He Jifeng is a senior research-fellow of UNU/IIST, He is also a professor of computer science at East China Normal University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Turning dilemmas into opportunities: a UNU/SCN capacity development network in public nutrition in Central and Eastern Europe
Get PDFCapacity development in nutrition is a process whereby individuals, groups, institutions, organizations and societies enhance their abilities to identify and meet challenges in a sustainable manner. To address these issues, in 2001 the UN System Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN) established a Working Group on Capacity Development under the joint coordination of the United Nations University (UNU) and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences. Several regional professional networks have developed under this working group, the latest for the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) countries. Ten CEE countries formed a network in 2006 and identified major nutritional challenges in the region, which included: irregular meal patterns; low consumption of fruits/vegetables, milk products and fish; low intake of some micronutrients; and high intakes of fat, sugar and salt. Public policies in nutrition were either weak or absent. Some countries had recently developed nutrition plans. Higher education in nutrition was seen as very important for public nutrition work by professionals in the region, who considered it a prerequisite for reversing the negative trend of the nutrition transition. The network will continue to work on issues that are still not covered adequately. Its activities to date and prospects for the future are assessed against ten principles for good capacity development suggested by the United Nations Development Programm

Get PDFThe Community Partnership Program (PKM) entitled “English Business Letter Training for Education Staff in UNU Purwokerto” aims to provide English language education, especially regarding English Business Letters for education staff. There was still a lack of English language skills and that it still needed additional knowledge regarding the rules of writing Business Letter in English. It is the main reason for taking topic. This PKM activity supported the vision of UNU Purwokerto about producing superior human resources with a global perspective. Moreover, UNU Purwokerto has accepted students from abroad who definitely need administration and communication in English. The object of PKM is UNU Purwokerto's educational staff, totaling 15 people who are representatives from each section. Providing a training using the fun learning method is aimed to maximize the learning process. Through this PKM activity, it is hoped that human resource competency will be increased and performance will be maximized to support the better quality of the university

Get PDFAgainst the backdrop of six informal thematic consultations, linked to different aspects of the global compact, the United Nations University (UNU) Office at the United Nations in New York and the UNU Migration Network3 jointly convened the ‘UNU Panel Series on Academic Thinking on Migration’, with the generous support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The series brought together leading researchers in the field of migration from around the world to discuss current scholarly thinking on several topics: the rise of nationalist politics and policy implications for migration; the linkages between climate change and migration, including forced migration and community relocations; inclusion of migrants and refugees in urban areas; protection of women’s rights, with a focus on women migrant workers; and emerging research on migration for development.
Experts in each panel offered recommendations for policy makers working towards a global compact on migration. In the next section of the executive summary, each of these panels and their recommendations are briefly summarized. In the following section, more detailed summaries of each panel and associated recommendations are offered

No full textEach student is a student who has a heterogeneous character. Each student has a different character and background from one another. Nahdlatul Ulama University Purwokerto is a new university in Banyumas Regency which has students with various characters. As the name implies, UNU Purwokerto students should have the character of Aswaja an-Nahdliyyah. In reality, UNU Purwokerto students come from various backgrounds from religious organizations in the Banyumas Regency area, not only NU. The existence of this diversity is a problem for the university, how to maintain the integrity of the Aswaja An-Nahdliyyah faith among its students without having to clash with the teachings of religious organizations outside NU. This research is field research with a sociological approach. Observation data collection techniques, interviews, documentation. Descriptive-analytic data analysis technique. The results of his research, strengthening the Aswaja an-Nahdliyyah character of UNU Purwokerto students was carried out through academics and non-academics. The academic path is through Aswaja An-Nahdliyyah courses and studies. Non-academic pathways through the implementation of NU amaliyah, active NU organizations and religious UKM within UNU Purwokert

Kekerasan seksual marak terjadi dikarenakan budaya patriarki yang sudah melembaga dimana perempuan didudukan pada posisi yang lemah dibandingkan laki-laki, selain itu ketimpangan relasi kuasa/ gender mengakibatkan pelaku menyalahgunakan sumber daya, ekonomi atau status sosialnya untuk mengendalikan korban. Perguruan Tinggi sebagai tempat menimba ilmu juga tidak luput dari kekerasan seksual oleh karenanya perlu melakukan langkah preventif guna mencegah terjadinya kekerasan seksual, salah satunya melalui penguatan budaya komunitas. Tim Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) bermitra dengan Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM) Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama (UNU) Purwokerto secara bersama-sama berusaha memecahkan permasalahan mitra dengan 4 (empat) metode pelaksanaan yaitu transfer pengetahuan dan teknologi, berbasis kelompok, komperhensif dan berbasis pada potensi kearifan lokal. PKM bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuandan kesadaran mitra akan pentingnya pencegahan kekerasan seksual berbasis penguatan budaya komunitas untuk menciptakan kampus yang inklusif, bebas kekerasan seksual. Adapun hasil yang dicapai dari kegiatan PKM yaitu civitas akademmik UNU Purwokerto telah memiliki pengetahuan awal yang baik tentang isu kekerasan seksual akan tetapi perlu ditingkatkan terkait penguatan budaya komunitas, peranan SATGAS PPKS dan pengetahuan dasar mengenai psikologi korban agar kekerasan seksual dapat dicegah sedini mungkin

Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to find out what the resonance of Arabic language learning is like after the existence of native Arabic speakers for students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program, Nahdlatul Ulama University, Purwokerto. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The results of the study show that resonance in learning influences or motivates students of the Arabic Language Study Program UNU Purwokerto to practice Arabic because of the presence of native speakers directly from Arab countries and student’s preseption about native speaker. Based on the data above, it is known that the role of native speakers in learning Arabic for students at Nahdlatul Ulama University, Purwokerto has the following advantages: 1) Helping students understand the cultural side of Arabic language users, 2) Students can learn directly with native speakers who master the Arabic language and dialect. For example. 3) Mastering and using Arabic vocabulary correctly.
