In-situ Hydrogen Sorption 2D-ACAR Facility for the Study of Metal Hydrides for Hydrogen Storage
We developed a dedicated hydrogen sorption setup coupled to a positron 2D-ACAR (two-dimensional Angular Correlation of Annihilation Radiation) setup employing a 22Na-source, which will enable to collect 2D-ACAR momentum distributions in-situ as a function of temperature, hydrogen pressure and hydrogen content. In parallel, a dedicated glovebox was constructed for handling air-sensitive metal and metal hydride samples, with a special entrance for the 2D-ACAR sample insert. The 2D-ACAR setup was tested in first measurements on a Pd0.75Ag0.25 foil and on a ball-milled MgH2 powder in both the hydrogen loaded and desorbed states. The hydrogen loaded Pd0.75Ag0.25Hx sample was kept under a 1 bar hydrogen pressure to prevent partial desorption during measurements at room temperature. The collected 2D-ACAR distributions of Pd0.75Ag0.25 and Pd0.75Ag0.25Hx showed similar features as observed in previous studies. The broadening of the ACAR distributions observed for the Mg to MgH2 metal-insulator transition was compared in a quantitative manner to ab-initio calculations reported in the literature.RST/Radiation, Science and TechnologyApplied Science
ACAR: An Adaptive Cost Aware Cache Replacement Approach for Flash Memory
Flash memory has been gaining more popularity as a substitution for magnetic disk. However, due to asymmetric 10 latency, cache management policy needs to be reconsidered in systems equipped with flash. A novel buffer replacement approach named ACAR, which stands for Adaptive Cost Aware cache Replacement, is proposed in this paper to address this problem. Taking operation cost into consideration, ACAR allocates two pools for clean and dirty pages separately. In addition, dynamical pool size tuning is also performed according to TO pattern evolvement. Furthermore, hot data recognition capacity is realized in an enhanced version of ACAR. Experiments with artificial and real 10 traces demonstrate ACAR outperforms the state-of-the-art cache replacement strategies.Computer Science, Information SystemsComputer Science, Theory & MethodsEICPCI-S(ISTP)
A case of osteomalacia initially followed as restless leg syndrome for 6 months
We present a case of a woman with a progressive hip and feet pain. Many biochemical, clinical, and radiological tests were performed for diagnosis. All were found to be normal. The patient was diagnosed as having RLS. 0.25 mg pramipexole was given for treatment. Patient symptoms patient escalated over six months. The patient was reassessed after six months. Vitamin D levels had not been previously examined. We found low vitamin D and calcium levels, as well as pseudofractures in radiography. The diagnosis was changed to osteomalacia. Vitamin D and calcium treatment were started. Symptoms began to regress from the first week of treatment
The Curse of Natural Resources
This book examines the paradox that resource-rich countries often struggle to manage their resources in a way that will help their economies thrive. It looks at how a country's political regime and quality of governance can determine the degree to which it benefits - or suffers - from having natural resources, shifting away from the traditional focus on economic growth data to study the complex implications of these resources for human well-being and sustainable development. To this end, Acar examines a panel of countries in terms of the effects of their natural resources on human development and genuine saving, which is a sustainability indicator that takes into account the welfare of future generations by incorporating the changes in different kinds of capital. Acar finds that the exportation of agricultural raw materials is associated with significant deterioration in human development, while extractive resource exports, such as energy and minerals, have negative implications for genuine savings. Next, the book compares the development path of Norway before and after discovering oil, contrasting it with Sweden's development. The two countries, which followed almost identical paths until the 1970s, diverged significantly in terms of per capita income after Norway found oil. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2017
The Delft intense slow positron beam 2D-ACAR facility for analysis of nanocavities and quantum dots
Positron annihilation spectroscopy is a powerful method to study materials containing very small concentrations of atomic defects and embedded quantum dots. Depending on the method of producing positrons, there are bulk spectroscopies using fast positrons and depth profiling spectroscopies using slow positrons. Both types of spectroscopies are available at the Positron Centre Delft of the Interfaculty Reactor Institute and are applied in material science. This thesis describes the construction of and the first results obtained with a unique two-dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation (2D-ACAR) setup coupled to the continuous high intensity slow positron beam (POSH). This new setup allows for the first time high-resolution momentum distribution measurements of thin films, multilayers, interfaces and metallic quantum dots. Important new information con- cerning the geometric and electronic structure of these systems can be obtained with this setup. At this moment the facility is the only one of this kind in the world.Interfaculty Reactor Institut
Christian Zionism and doctrinal islamophobia: Expediting the end times
Christian Zionism is a religious movement in which Christians advocate for a Jewish state in Israel. These Christians, most of whom identify as Evangelical Protestants, believe that the return of Jews to the Holy Land of Israel and the establishment of a Jewish state in that land in 1948 happened as the fulfilment of Bible prophecy. Christian Zionists believe that Jewish sovereignty in Israel is a necessary step in bringing about the Battle of Armageddon and the subsequent Second Coming of Jesus Christ, which is the main objective of the movement. Furthermore, some Christian Zionists believe that the return of all Jews to Israel is also a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Christ. What emphasizes the importance of the religious ideology of American Christian Zionists is this attitude towards the Holy Land.
Although Christian Zionism is a religious movement, it utilizes religious as well as sociological methods to garner support for Israel. Christian Zionists portray Islam as antithetical to the state of Israel and use Islamophobic rhetoric as their primary method of justifying support for Israel. In addition, a lesser-known tactic that they use, marginalizing Christian Palestinians and even other Christian Arabs, fuels their use of Islamophobia. In this thesis, I will show how Christian Zionists create Islamophobia (particularly among American Evangelicals), marginalize Christian Palestinians and other Christian Arabs (though to a lesser extent), and use that Islamophobic rhetoric to further their politico-religious agenda, making it a byproduct of their politics in their expedition to the Battle of Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2022-08-01The student, Asena Acar, accepted the attached license on 2020-04-28 at 12:19.The student, Asena Acar, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2020-04-28 at 12:46.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2020-04-28 at 15:53.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #14885 on 2020-10-02 at 15:30:34Made available in DSpace on 2020-10-07T22:07:08Z (GMT). Reconstruction of Baskakov operators preserving some exponential functions
acar, tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459The present paper deals with a new modification of Baskakov operators in which the functions exp(mu t) and exp(2 mu t), mu > 0 are preserved. Approximation properties of the operators are captured, ie, uniform convergence and rate of convergence of the operators in terms of modulus of continuity, approximation behaviors of the operators exponential weighted spaces, and pointwise convergence of the operators by means of the Voronovskaya theorem. Advantages of the operators for some special functions are presented.Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects CoordinationSelcuk UniversityThe second author is supported by Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects Coordination
Blending Type Approximation By Bezier-Summation-Integral Type Operators
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459In this note we construct the Bezier variant of summation integral type operators based on a non-negative real parameter. We present a direct approximation theorem by means of the first order modulus of smoothness and the rate of convergence for absolutely continuous functions having a derivative equivalent to a function of bounded variation. In the last section, we study the quantitative Voronovskaja type theorem.Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP (Turkey) [2017/014]The first author is partially supported by Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP, 2017/014 (Turkey)
