A Study on the Growth and Formation of Single Person Households and Their Housing Decisions in Taiwan
The number of single person households has dramatically increased in Taiwan in the past several decades as it has elsewhere in the world, but this phenomenon has been largely neglected in the literature. This research explores the factors that affect the formation of single person households and their housing decisions. Taiwan¡¦s population census data for 1980, 1990 and 2000 are used. Some interesting trends can be found. First of all, people who are married or cohabiting have exhibited an increasing tendency to live alone census by census. This shows the increasing need in a modern society for the husband and wife to live separately due to employment or other reasons. Secondly, unmarried and widowed elderly persons have had an increasing probability of living alone over the decades. Thirdly, the number of female single person households has been increasing rapidly, and there is a higher probability that they are homeowners and also occupying a larger living space than their male counterparts. To sum up, the results of this study show that the demand for housing among single person households will continue to increase as their numbers increase. Supramolecular Nanoparticles for Molecular Diagnostics and Therapeutics
Over the past decades, significant efforts have been devoted to explore the use of various nanoparticle-based systems in the field of nanomedicine, including molecular imaging and therapy. Supramolecular synthetic approaches have attracted lots of attention due to their flexibility, convenience, and modularity for producing nanoparticles. In this dissertation, the developmental story of our size-controllable supramolecular nanoparticles (SNPs) will be discussed, as well as their use in specific biomedical applications. To achieve the self-assembly of SNPs, the well-characterized molecular recognition system (i.e., cyclodextrin/adamantane recognition) was employed. The resulting SNPs, which were assembled from three molecular building blocks, possess incredible stability in various physiological conditions, reversible size-controllability and dynamic disassembly that were exploited for various in vitro and in vivo applications. An advantage of using the supramolecular approach is that it enables the convenient incorporation of functional ligands onto SNP surface that confers functionality (e.g., targeting, cell penetration) to SNPs. We utilized SNPs for molecular imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) by introducing reporter systems (i.e., radio-isotopes, MR contrast agents, and fluorophores) into SNPs. On the other hand, the incorporation of various payloads, including drugs, genes and proteins, into SNPs showed improved delivery performance and enhanced therapeutic efficacy for these therapeutic agents. Leveraging the powers of (i) a combinatorial synthetic approach based on supramolecular assembly and (ii) a digital microreactor, a rapid developmental pathway was developed that is capable of screening SNP candidates for the ideal structural and functional properties that deliver optimal performance. Moreover, SNP-based theranostic delivery systems that combine reporter systems and therapeutic payloads into a single SNP for both diagnosis and therapy were generated. The results show that this type of theranostic SNPs may have a great contribution in the optimization of therapeutic efficacy for individual patients in clinical translation in the near future. It is anticipated that our supramolecular synthetic approach could be adopted to assemble various SNP-based delivery agents for molecular diagnostics and therapeutics that pave the way toward personalized medicine
Neotype designations and supplementary descriptions of Taiwanoppia subtropica Tseng, 1982 and Muliercula chiayiensis Tseng, 1984 (Acari: Oribatida: Oppiidae, Scheloribatidae)
The type materials of oribatid mites (Acari, Oribatida) included in Tseng’s collections were lost, therefore, to ensure stability in zoological nomenclature, designation of neotypes is necessary. Based on the close morphological similarity of the collected specimens of Taiwanoppia subtropica Tseng, 1982 (Oppiidae) and Muliercula chiayiensis Tseng, 1984 (Scheloribatidae) from Taiwan to the original descriptions, we designate a neotype and paraneotypes for each of these species, and redescribe and illustrate them in detail. </jats:p

本研究是以個案研究法為研究方法,透過會談的方式,試著在研究對象的敘說及其與 研究者的對話中,瞭解個體在心理治療中是如何透過敘說建構其自我,及其歷程為何 。研究結果呈現,個體藉由敘說開展的自我建構的歷程可分為三種樣態:(一)自我 的澄明與追尋;(二)關係的重新認識與體悟;(三)創傷的轉化與超越。從研究中 發現,個體要開展自我建構的歷程,必須要有一個過渡空間;而過渡空間是透過敘說 、時間的距離、時空轉換、自我觀照所醞釀出來的。敘說與時間的距離使個體能夠重 新賦予新的意義來超越創傷;時空的轉換則使個體有能力以長大的我撫慰小時候的我 ;而自我觀照讓個體能諦聽自己的內在之聲,找到適合自己的「我」。故這四者是促 成個體的自我建構的可能要素。 The article adopted the case study methodology to investigate the process of self-construction Through interviews, the investigator tries to understand how one constructs himself or herself through narrative and dialogue with the investigator in psychotherapy The findings show that there are three patterns for the process of self- construction: 1. clarification and search for the self; 2 . re-comprehension and realization of relationships; 3. transformation and transcendence of traumatic experiences The research also finds that for the process of self- construction to unfold, it is necessary to have a transitional space, which can be developed by narrative, the lapse of time , shifts in time frames, and self-reflection Narrative and lapse of time allow one to transcend trauma by adding new meanings to the traumatic experiences, shifts in time frames equip one with the ability to console the traumatized childhood with the perspective of an adult, and self- reflection provides an opportunity for listening to the inner voice of the self in order to re-locate the "self"
