This sales brochure describes puppets and other products created by students at the Tryon Craft School in Tryon, North Carolina in the late 1930s. The Tryon Craft School was established in 1935 as a workshop for children led by Eleanor Vance and Charlotte Yale. The brochure describes the puppet theater made and sold by the school. The characters were created to tell three different nursery stories. The last page lists other items made at the school

Yale and Vance began their craft teaching in Asheville, North Carolina with the Biltmore Estate Industries in 1901, and their move to Tryon, N.C. in 1915 where they established the Tryon Toy-Makers and Wood-Carvers. Here they instructed young people in woodworking and used the sales of toys and other decorative pieces to support the business for over twenty years. The business was transferred to new owners in 1936 when Yale and Vance began a new enterprise with the Tryon Craft School

Pictured here is the home of Eleanor P. Vance (1869-1954) and Charlotte L. Yale (1870-1958) who moved to Tryon in 1915 to open the Tryon Toy Makers Shop. From 1915 to 1922 toys were marked “Tryon Toy Makers and Weavers,” and after 1922 marked “Tryon Toy Makers and Wood Carvers.” The entrance to the work room of the Tryon Toy Makers and Weavers is on the far right.
