No full textHomer's stories of Troy are part of the foundations of Western culture. What's less well known is that they also inspired Ottoman-Turkish cultural traditions. Yet even with all the historical and archaeological research into Homer and Troy, most scholars today rely heavily on Western sources, giving Ottoman work in the field short shrift. This book helps right that balance, exploring Ottoman-Turkish involvement and interest in the subject between 1870, when Heinrich Schliemann began his excavations in search of Troy on Ottoman soil, and the battle of Gallipoli in 1915, which gave the Turks their own version of the heroic epic of Troy

No full textThe National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Troy Reid Cole. Cole joined the Navy in 1943. Beginning in early 1944, he served as a Quartermaster Second-Class aboard the net laying ship, the USS Silverbell (AN-51). They traveled to Manus Island, Admiralty Islands. They operated between there and Biak (Netherlands East Indies) until mid-September 1944. They supported landings at Leyte Gulf, operating between Leyte, Manila and Subic Bay until November of 1945. Cole continued his service aboard the Silverbell until the ship’s decommission in January of 1947. Cole continued his service with the Seabees for an additional 20 years
