Cascaded LPG and FBG integrated in a miniaturized flow cell for compensated refractometric measurement
The present paper describes the design and characterization of a thermo-stabilized flow cell for accurate refractive index (RI) measurements using a long period grating (LPG)-based sensor and a methodology to measure and correct all the LPG cross-sensitivity. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) written on the same fiber in series with the LPG and an accurate measuring system of the temperature are used in order to minimize the interferences coming from temperature and strain changes. The experimental results show that the proposed system provides good performance as far as the RI sensitivity and resolution are concerned. The maximum RI sensitivity and resolution are around 1.455 RIU and the values are 3,120nm/RIU and 2 x 10 -5 RIU, respectively. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC
Experimental test of a Fibre Laser Hydrophone Array
In this work we present the progress in developing a fibre laser hydrophone array, based on Distributed Bragg Reflector Fibre Laser (DBR-FL), operating in the C telecom band. The goal is to build multiplexed arrays of hydrophones, with an equivalent spectral noise level between 500 Hz and 5 kHz of some 40 dB ref μPa/(Hz)1/2, close to the limit of the Deep Sea State Zero (DSS0). This kind of arrays can be employed in underwater acoustic surveillance of harbours, of maritime areas of strategic relevance, but also in biologic oceanography by surveying marine mammals. The DBR-FL cavity is formed by a short length of single-mode Erbium-doped optical fibre delimited by a high reflection mirror and an output coupler consisting of two fibre Bragg gratings. Any variation of the cavity length and of the effective refractive index n, induced by strain, temperature or pressure, produces a shift of the fibre laser emission wavelength. Different lasers, with different emission wavelengths, can be inscribed on the same fibre and interrogated by the same opto-electronic unit, enabling a quasi-distributed measurement. A preliminary test in marine environment has been made, using an array of two DBR-FL, placed on the same optical cable about 1 m apart. New tests and measurements are in progress, both on single sensor in an equipped pool to characterize their noise equivalent level, and on arrays of a small number (2 to 4) of DBR-FL sensors
CAPRI versus AGLINK-COSIMO: Two partial equilibrium models - Two baseline approaches
The agricultural modelling world has generated several models aiming at the analysis of the response of the sector to certain changes in exogenous mainly policy variables. Among those, the CAPRI modelling system developed by a consortium centred on the University of Bonn and the AGLINK-COSIMO model, a joint product of the OECD and the FAO, are well known and accepted as comprehensive tools. This analysis focuses on a qualitative comparison of both models and particularly on the process of setting up the baseline. The baseline is a medium-term projection of agricultural markets reflecting current policies and those already decided upon. This projection in turn serves as the base for comparisons when analyzing scenarios. It is shown that CAPRI uses generic and automatic procedures whenever possible for conducting the database and the baseline, while AGLINK-COSIMO puts more emphasis on expert knowledge in this process. Both approaches are shown to have certain advantages while the conclusion that a combination of them would potentially improve both models will be drawn from this analysis.CAPRI, AGLINK-COSIMO, Baseline process, Agricultural and Food Policy,
Towards Sustainable H2Production: Rational Design of Hydrophobic Triphenylamine-based Dyes for Sensitized Ethanol Photoreforming
Donor–acceptor dyes are a well-established class of photosensitizers, used to enhance visible-light harvesting in solar cells and in direct photocatalytic reactions, such as H2 production by photoreforming of sacrificial electron donors (SEDs). Amines—typically triethanolamine (TEOA)—are commonly employed as SEDs in such reactions. Dye-sensitized photoreforming of more sustainable, biomass-derived alcohols, on the other hand, was only recently reported by using methanol as the electron donor. In this work, several rationally designed donor–acceptor dyes were used as sensitizers in H2 photocatalytic production, comparing the efficiency of TEOA and EtOH as SEDs. In particular, the effect of hydrophobic chains in the spacer and/or the donor unit of the dyes was systematically studied. The H2 production rates were higher when TEOA was used as SED, whereas the activity trends depended on the SED used. The best performance was obtained with TEOA by using a sensitizer with just one bulky hydrophobic moiety, propylenedioxythiophene, placed on the spacer unit. In the case of EtOH, the best-performing sensitizers were the ones featuring a thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole internal unit, needed for enhancing light harvesting, and carrying alkyl chains on both the donor part and the spacer unit. The results are discussed in terms of reaction mechanism, interaction with the SED, and structural/electrochemical properties of the sensitizers

15 e all’art. 21
Cost. The paper concerns the relationship between the crime of “Illicit distribution of sexually explicit images or videos” (Article 612-ter of the Italian Criminal Code) and the constitutional freedoms of correspondence and expression of thought.
Specifically, the Author reflects on whether the offence under art. 612-ter affects the freedoms pursuant to Article 15 and Article 21 of the Constitution. Indeed, the offender’s sole objective is to damage the victim’s moral identity and reputation. For this reason, we should not be misled by the fact that the conduct targeted in Article 612-ter may (exclusively) be implemented using means of communication designed for the transmission of thought. In fact, the Author believes that the constitutional foundation for art. 612-ter of the Italian Criminal Code is to be found in Articles 2, 3 and 13 of the Constitution (regarding the freedom of self-determination), while the freedom of correspondence and freedom of expression of thought are not restricted by the crime in question
Published in 1957 and joined to the Our Ancestors trilogy in 1965, The Baron in the Trees, by Italo Calvino, is a portrait of the changes in Europe during the 18th century, shown through the preposterous life of Cosimo, the baron that lived in the trees. Cosimo can be interpreted as a microcosm of the 18th century, and the tale of his adventures is a way to trace the intellectual journey of the West. The present work aims to discuss the relationship between history and fiction with the structural and discursive analysis of The Baron in the Trees, and to analyze the intellectual and moral coming of age of the main character, along with a genealogy of the novel, presented in Calvino's work. To that end, we will show the relationship between the novels The Baron in the Trees alludes to and the growth of the readership, the birth and the coming of age of the literary genre that is part of the origins of the bourgeois society: the novel. We will also discuss the impact of the Enlightenment on the thoughts and actions of the main character, since, in the person of Cosimo, we see a reader, an inventor, a philosopher and a storyteller. To study the relationship between fiction and history, we shall prioritize the metafictional reflexion that appears in the narrator's voice, in a discussion about the role of the historian and the author and the thin line that keeps them apart. We will also investigate Calvino's aesthetic and ideological position in his reflexions on the role of literature and of the scholars in the modern world.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES
