Young Adolescents and Natural Hazards. The Perceived Vulnerability of the Vesuvius Risk
The “Blue Check” Communication on the Pandemia Vaccine Campaign
This chapter has the exploratory goal of understanding the attitudes and perceptions of 'verified' Twitter (VA) accounts about the COVID-19 vaccine campaign. Identifying their sentiment and opinion about it could therefore be crucial to the success of vaccination. A content analysis of tweets from the period December 24, 2020 to March 23, 2021 about the vaccine campaign in Italy was conducted to understand the semantic strategies used by VAs based on their orientation toward the vaccine, whether pro, anti, or neutral, and their possible motivations. Topic modeling allowed the authors to detect five prevalent themes and their associated words. A sentiment analysis and opinion analysis were performed on a smaller sample of tweets. The results suggest that 'authoritative' opinion about the vaccine has been very fragmented and not entirely positive, as expected. This could prove to be a critical issue in getting the vaccine positively accepted by the public
The Vaccine Is Now Here. The State-Regions Governance Between Converging Plans and Diverging Digital Communication
This article aims to present an analysis of State-Regional governance in relation to the Italian vaccination campaign, with the objective of identifying possible elements of divergence and convergence on three points. The first refers to the regulatory dimension of the campaign, which ensures the management plans of the national campaign and individual regional plans. The second relates to the implementation area of the provisions concerning data on allocation and distribution of both vaccines and vaccinated people. The third, instead, concerns the institutional communication of vaccines on Facebook institutional profiles. It introduces an analysis of public communication on the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, from December 20, 2020 (a few days before the start of the campaign) to June 30, 2021, six months after in a moment in which the numbers of contagions were beginning to show a definite containment. It examines the central level of communication, i.e., the communication campaign of government actors, and the regional level, i.e., the institutional communication of regional Governorss through their respective social profiles. Facebook posts were extracted via API programs and analyzed by a quantitative content analysis. The results show an institutional scenario that goes in two directions. In opposition to a normative and implementation level that is more coherent and less divergent, there is an extremely fragmented communication context with elements of contradiction between State and Regions. The latter would respond to primarily political logic (at disagreement with the governing coalition) to claim intervention priorities and-in implementation-to change the local territorial allocation of vaccines. The communication dimension thus turns out to be a very relevant component of vaccination governance mechanisms: not decisive for the actual implementation of the campaign, but very functional for the creation of new storytelling and thus likely political consensus
Cross-Platform Political Communication By Target and the New Season of Politics in Italy
The victory of the Centre-Right in the Italian elections of September 2022
and of its coalition leader, Giorgia Meloni, the first woman to hold this office,
caused a stir, but was certainly not unanticipated. Above all, the success of Conte, former Prime Minister, who, at the head of the Five-Stars Movement
(M5S, anty-system party), reached an unexpected 15%. Some observers have
noted how the votes collected by the M5S are above all linked to the younger
component of the voters. The polls indeed show how each party is supported by
specific age groups or social categories. Surprising, for example, is the support
for the notoriously conservative Meloni from a target electorate likely to be
differently aligned (women and the adult population). It is therefore interesting
to understand whether the socio-demographic stratification that characterizes
each party is the result of a vote of opinion or not, and on which channels the
contents that had the capacity to reach and hit the differential targets of the
voters were conveyed most. The contribute aims to analyze the cross-platform
communication of the leading political candidates of the different competing
coalitions and parties in order to investigate whether they based their media
campaign on certain social categories or not and whether this effort had the
electoral feedback it deserved. Furthermore, a specific lunge will be devoted to
the candidates’ digital self-narration through social networks in order to show
how political communication, increasingly less disintermediated, makes the
direct message an element on which to build the whole tare of the electoral
campaign. Digital has set the pace of the campaign and no longer just to chase
it, showing that paradigm shift that well intercepts a digital native audience
yet still weak on those targets that for the most part have been in favor of the

AI Response Quality in Public Services: Temperature Settings and Contextual Factors
Abstract
This study investigated how generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems—now increasingly integrated into public services—respond to different technical configurations, and how these configurations affect the perceived quality of the outputs. Drawing on an experimental evaluation of Govern-AI, a chatbot designed for professionals in the social, educational, and labor sectors, we analyzed the impact of the temperature parameter—which controls the degree of creativity and variability in the responses—on two key dimensions: accuracy and comprehensibility. This analysis was based on 8880 individual evaluations collected from five professional profiles. The findings revealed the following: (1) the high-temperature responses were generally more comprehensible and appreciated, yet less accurate in strategically sensitive contexts; (2) professional groups differed significantly in their assessments, where trade union representatives and regional policy staff expressed more critical views than the others; (3) the type of question—whether operational or informational—significantly influenced the perceived output quality. This study demonstrated that the AI performance was far from neutral: it depended on technical settings, usage contexts, and the profiles of the end users. Investigating these “behind-the-scenes” dynamics is essential for fostering the informed governance of AI in public services, and for avoiding the risk of technology functioning as an opaque black box within decision-making processes
