Jahrhunderts haben sich um ihn versammelt, um ihm diese Aufsätze - Widerspiegelungen seines Werks, die sie - jeder auf seinem Gebiet - in Variationen in (beinahe !) allen Sprachen komponiert haben, in denen er arbeitete. Der Leser wird so von Zenons Pfeil zur Logik der Gegenwart geführt, auf dem Umweg über die Universität von Kasan oder das antike China, die Melancholiker des Nordens oder Piero della Francesca. Eine Reise nach dem Bild der permanenten Forschung, die derjenige verkörpert, den diese Aufsätze ehren.Das "Sommaire" gibt das Inhaltsverzeichnis der Bände wieder, die Imre Toth am 29.12.1996 unter dem Titel Ceci N'EST PAS un festschrift pour Imre Toth überreicht wurden. Einige Beiträge des Originalmanuskripts können hier nicht präsentiert werden, außerdem wurde ein Titel ausgetauscht, ein anderer ist noch nicht angelangt. Ein weiterer ist später hinzugekommen. Dem Ganzen wurde eine von Elisabetta Cattanei zusammengestellte Bibliographie der Schriften von Imre Toth hinzugefügt.Ses amis, ses collègues, se sont réunis autour d'Imre Toth, ce philosophe des sciences, philosophe artiste, engagé dans tous les combats du XXe siècle, pour lui offrir ces essais reflets de sa pensée. Liberté, négation, c'est sur ces deux thèmes clefs de son oeuvre qu'ils ont, chacun selon son champ, composé des variations dans (presque !) toutes les langues dans lesquelles il a travaillé. Le lecteur est donc emmené de la flèche de Zénon d'Elée à la logique contemporaine, en passant par l'université de Kazan ou la Chine ancienne, les mélancoliques nordiques ou Piero della Francesca. Un voyage à l'image de la recherche permanente qu'incarne celui que ces essais honorent. Le sommaire reproduit la table des matière des volumes remis à Imre Toth le 29-12-1996, sous le titre Ceci N'EST PAS un festschrift pour Imre Toth. No full textDas Forschungsunternehmen "Romanisch und Deutsch am Hinterrhein / GR" von Prof. Dr. Theodor Ebneter (Sprachlabor der Universität Zürich) wurde in den Jahren 1978-1992 am Phonogrammarchiv der Universität Zürich als erstes bilinguistisches Projekt durchgeführt.
Für jede der vier Talschaften des Hinterrheins waren ursprünglich zwei Bände, einer für das Deutsche und einer für das Romanische, vorgesehen. […] Da die Gewährsleute ihre jeweilige Mundart gerne mit jener von Chur vergleichen, wurde die Dissertation von Oscar Eckhardt "Die Mundart der Stadt Chur" (1991)als Band 9 veröffentlicht.
Nachdem Prof. Ebneters Leitung des Phonogrammarchivs 1992 zu Ende ging, konnte mit Unterstützung des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds Band 7 "Romanisch im Boden, in Trin und in Flims" mit seinem Umfang von 622 Seiten abgeschlossen werden, der als romanistische Ergänzung zu Urs Willis 1990 publiziertem Band 8 "Deutsch im Bezirk Imboden " die Untersuchung dieser vierten und letzten Talschaft beschliessen sollte.
Der vorliegende Band 11 der Reihe "Romanisch und Deutsch am Hinterrhein / GR" ersetzt nun Willis Band 8 und schliesst zugleich das Forschungsuntemehmen mit der germanistischen Aufarbeitung des Bodens, von Trins und von Flims ab. Dieser Band wurde von Dr. Alfred Toth und Prof. Dr. Theodor Ebneter parallel zur Herstellung von Band 10 "Die romanisch-deutsche Sprachlandschaft am unteren Hinterrhein" verfasst. Die Ersetzung von Willis Band durch den vorliegenden war auch deshalb nötig, um die die deutschen Mundarten des Bezirks Imboden betreffenden Daten in Band 10 einbauen zu können. Zu diesem Zweck wurden im Winter und Frühling 1994/95 alle Ortschaften des Bezirks Imboden mit 27 Gewährspersonen in längeren Gesprächen aufgenommen.
Band 11 orientiert sich methodisch einerseits an Band 7 über die romanistische Situation des Bezirks Imboden, dessen germanistische Ergänzung er darstellt, anderseits an Band 9 über die Mundart von Chur, der innerhalb der Reihe zum erstenmal vergleichsweise herangezogen werden konnte, nachdem alle übrigen germanistischen Bände früher erschienen waren. Aus diesem Grunde wurde der Einleitung (Kap. 1), der Phonologie (Kap. 2) und der Morphologie (Kap. 3) ein Kapitel 4 "Vergleich der Dialekte des Bezirks Imboden mit der Mundart der Stadt Chur" beigesteIlt, in dem auch Aspekte der Morphosyntax (Kap. 4.3.), der Syntax (Kap. 4.4.) sowie der Lexikologie (Kap. 4.5.) behandelt werden

The AM Canum Venaticorum binary SDSS J173047.59+554518.5
No full textThe AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn) binaries are a rare group of hydrogen-deficient, ultrashort period, mass-transferring white dwarf binaries and are possible progenitors of Type Ia supernovae. We present time-resolved spectroscopy of the recently discovered AM CVn binary SDSS J173047.59+554518.5. The average spectrum shows strong double-peaked helium emission lines, as well as a variety of metal lines, including neon; this is the second detection of neon in an AM CVn binary, after the much brighter system GP Com. We detect no calcium in the accretion disc, a puzzling feature that has been noted in many of the longer period AM CVn binaries. We measure an orbital period, from the radial velocities of the emission lines, of 35.2 ± 0.2 min, confirming the ultracompact binary nature of the system. The emission lines seen in SDSS J1730 are very narrow, although double-peaked, implying a low-inclination, face-on accretion disc; using the measured velocities of the line peaks, we estimate i ≤ 11°. This low inclination makes SDSS J1730 an excellent system for the identification of emission lines
Polyphenols: Potential Use in the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases
No full textBACKGROUND:
Polyphenols are bioactive compounds that can be found mostly in foods like fruits, cereals, vegetables, dry legumes, chocolate and beverages such as coffee, tea and wine. They are extensively used in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) providing protection against many chronic illnesses. Their effects on human health depend on the amount consumed and on their bioavailability. Many studies have demonstrated that polyphenols have also good effects on the vascular system by lowering blood pressure, improving endothelial function, increasing antioxidant defences, inhibiting platelet aggregation and low-density lipoprotein oxidation, and reducing inflammatory responses.
METHODS:
This review is focused on some groups of polyphenols and their effects on several cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, oxidative stress, atherogenesis, endothelial dysfunction, carotid artery intima-media thickness, diabetes and lipid disorders.
RESULTS:
It is proved that these compounds have many cardio protective functions: they alter hepatic cholesterol absorption, triglyceride biosynthesis and lipoprotein secretion, the processing of lipoproteins in plasma, and inflammation. In some cases, human long-term studies did not show conclusive results because they lacked in appropriate controls and in an undefined polyphenol dosing regimen.
CONCLUSION:
Rigorous evidence is necessary to demonstrate whether or not polyphenols beneficially impact CVD prevention and treatment
