No full textArquitectura en el Chile del siglo xx, es la síntesis de un largo trabajo de investigación del arquitecto y académico Fernando Pérez Oyarzun, en la que colaboran un selecto grupo de expertos en la materia. los cuatro volúmenes que conforman la serie proponen una narrativa acerca de la arquitectura y las ciudades en Chile durante el siglo pasado. "Modernización y Vanguardia 1930 – 1950", su segundo volumen, continúa la narración a partir de la década de 1930 y concluye en la mitad del siglo. Las contribuciones de Claudio Vásquez, Hugo Palmarola y Horacio Torrent complementan el relato central e introducen nuevas voces y perspectivas. El impacto cultural de las nuevas tecnologías, los primeros intentos de planificación territorial y el aporte de arquitectos extranjeros como Le Corbusier, aportan densidad y complejidad a un panorama en el que la industrialización y la participación del Estado resultan fundamentales para la configuración del territorio chileno

No full textEl artículo examina el desarrollo de la historiografía de la arquitectura chilena y sus principales paradigmas, revisando el corpus de textos producidos en la historia de la arquitectura y el urbanismo. Aborda sus inicios en relación con la arquitectura colonial y la funcionalización operativa para la conservación patrimonial que la ha caracterizado durante el siglo XX. Establece el momento de inserción de los criterios canónicos de interpretación de la arquitectura moderna divulgados en el país por las publicaciones periódicas, así como de las alternativas críticas postmodernas y la promoción del conocimiento histórico en relación con la teoría de la arquitectura. Analiza los grandes relatos sobre la arquitectura moderna y sus principales argumentos y esquemas historiográficos. Expone los desarrollos actuales caracterizados por una mayor amplitud de los temas y argumenta a favor de una nueva historiografía que abandone la noción de influencia y de énfasis a los recursos documentales y nuevos enfoques críticos.Fil: Torrent, Horacio. Concrete Long-Span Buildings’ Adaptive Reuse: Sustainable Rethinking of Public Architecture and Industrial Heritage
No full textTwentieth-century large-scale public and industrial buildings are scattered worldwide fostering
a wide debate in the fields of reuse, transformation, sustainable construction processes, and
the ensuing balanced development of the involved urban areas. Redesigning a new life cycle
for those buildings and their contexts that have lost function, use and significance provides
a unique opportunity to contribute to making human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient,
and sustainable (UN2030 Agenda, Goal 11). Among the buildings at risk, a prominent role
is played by those in reinforced concrete in which well-known architects and engineers, set
free from traditional structural requirements, introduced unprecedented, innovative solutions.
In this realm, long-span buildings of the second post-war, such as sports and social facilities,
warehouses, pavilions, hangars, markets, movie theatres, and auditoriums arouse considerable
interest for their intertwined urban, architectural, and engineering significance. The awareness
of their historical, cultural, and social values, combined with the serious and growing problems
of structural safety, fuels today a greater sensitivity to this heritage. It is, therefore, worthy
to protect and reuse these buildings as tangible evidence of a particular historical moment,
rich in discoveries, novel construction techniques, and experiments on new materials. The
issues of aging, poor energy, structural performance, change of function, use, and social role
are amplified in this modern heritage, prompting the need for careful analysis and making its
sustainable rehabilitation and reuse a demanding technical and
economic challenge

preservation, enhancement and use of the Modernist Architecture of
Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan. It is by now widely
acknowledged that preservation is to be intended as management of
change rather than strict conservation. A sustainable preservation
implies reducing waste by conserving as much as possible, while
adapting the pre-existent to meet the evolving requirements of use. To
this end, it is essential to acquire a thorough knowledge of the building,
hence to identify the most significant features that need to be retained.

First chapter of this thesis captures the life of the author and important events of his life that influenced his work. Emphasis is placed on the tragic of Quirogaś life because death was not only an element present at all times of his life but also an important motif depicted in his artistic creation. The next chapter treats modernism, since it's ideas influenced the work of Quiroga. The following chapter defines the concept of fantastic literature. The last chapter of this thesis treats the fantastic short stories of Horacio Quiroga and continues with a detailed practical analysis of a few selected short stories.
