    Paramagnetic Gd-Doped Zirconia Nanoparticles for Potential T<sub>1</sub>-Weighted MRI Imaging

    In this paper, Gd-doped zirconia (ZrO[Formula: see text] nanoparticles were prepared using a facile urea homogeneous precipitation method. The morphology, structural properties and magnetic properties of Gd-doped zirconia nanoparticles (NPs) have been analyzed by field emission transmission electron microscopy (FETEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and magnetic properties measurement system (MPMS), respectively. Toxicity analysis suggested that prepared Gd-doped ZrO2 NPs have good biocompatibility. The contrast enhancement ability of prepared Gd-doped ZrO2 NPs was tested by a 1.5T small animal MRI scanner. Obvious image brightening confirmed that prepared Gd-doped ZrO2 NPs can be potentially used for T1-weighted MRI imaging. </jats:p

    Doped Carbon Dots for Sensing and Bioimaging Applications: A Minireview

    In the last decade, carbon dots (C-dots, CDs) or carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have attracted a considerable amount of attention from the scientific community as a low cost and biocompatible alternative to semiconductor quantum dots. In particular, doped C-dots have excellent fluorescent properties that have been successfully utilized for numerous applications. In this minireview, we overview the recent advances on the synthesis of doped C-dots derived from carbon-rich sources and their potential applications for biomedical and sensing applications. In addition, we will also discuss some challenges and outline some future perspectives of this exciting material
