Energy-based disturbance attenuation excitation control of differential algebraic power systems
Using an energy-based method, this paper investigates the L 2 disturbance attenuation excitation control of multimachine power system connected with constant power loads. First, a general result is presented for the L 2 disturbance attenuation control of nonlinear differential algebraic systems with dissipative Hamiltonian realization. Then, pre-feedback is employed to transform the power system into a dissipative Hamiltonian form. Based on this, a decentralized L 2 excitation control scheme is proposed to improve the transient stability of the system. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller
Chen Chen, 42nd Annual ODU Literary Festival
Chen Chen is the author of When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities (BOA Editions, 2017), which was long-listed for the National Book Award and won the Thom Gunn Award, among other honors. Bloodaxe Books published a UK edition in June. He is also the author of four chapbooks, most recently You MUST Use the Word Smoothie (Sundress Publications, 2019) and Gesundheit! (in collaboration with Sam Herschel Wein and forthcoming from Glass Poetry Press, fall 2019). His work appears in many publications, including Poem-a-Day, The Massachusetts Review, The Best American Poetry, and The Best American Nonrequired Reading. He has received a Pushcart Prize and fellowships from Kundiman and the National Endowment for the Arts. He holds an MFA from Syracuse University and a PhD from Texas Tech University. He teaches at Brandeis University as the Jacob Ziskind Poet-in-Residence and co-runs the journal, Underblong. He lives in Waltham, Massachusetts, with his partner, Jeff Gilbert, and their pug, Mr. Rupert Gile
A Separated-Flow Model for Predicting Flow Boiling Critical Heat Flux and Pressure Drop Characteristics in Microchannels
Two-phase microchannel cooling promises high heat flux removal for high-performance electronics and photonics. However, the heat transfer performance of flow boiling microchannels is limited by the critical heat flux (CHF) conditions. For variable heat inputs and variable fluid flows, it is essential to predict CHFs accurately for effective and efficient two-phase microchannel cooling. To characterize the CHF and pressure drop in flow boiling microchannels, a separated-flow model is proposed in this paper based on fundamental two-phase flow mass, energy, momentum conservation and wall energy conservation laws. With this theoretical framework, the relationship among liquid/vapor interfacial instability, two-phase flow characteristics and CHF is further studied. This mechanistic model also provides insight into the design and operational guidelines for advanced electronics and photonics cooling technologies. Achieving full diversity in multi-antenna two-way relay networks via symbol-based physical-layer network coding
This paper considers physical-layer network coding (PNC) with M-ary phase-shift keying (MPSK) modulation in two-way relay channel (TWRC). A low complexity detection technique, termed symbol-based PNC (SPNC), is proposed for the relay. In particular, attributing to the outer product operation imposed on the superposed MPSK signals at the relay, SPNC obtains the network-coded symbol (NCS) straightforwardly without having to detect individual symbols separately. Unlike the optimal multi-user detector (MUD) which searches over the combinations of all users’ modulation constellations, SPNC searches over only one modulation constellation, thus simplifies the NCS detection. Despite the reduced complexity, SPNC achieves full diversity in multi-antenna relay as the optimal MUD does. Specifically, antenna selection based SPNC (AS-SPNC) scheme and signal combining based SPNC (SC-SPNC) scheme are proposed. Our analysis of these two schemes not only confirms their full diversity performance, but also implies when SPNC is applied in multi-antenna relay, TWRC can be viewed as an effective single-input multiple-output (SIMO) system, in which AS-PNC and SC-PNC are equivalent to the general AS scheme and the maximal-ratio combining (MRC) scheme. Moreover, an asymptotic analysis of symbol error rate (SER) is provided for SC-PNC considering the case that the number of relay antennas is sufficiently large
