Replication Data for: Are Sleepy Punishers Really Harsh Punishers?: Comment

    No full text
This data set contains data (USSCdata.dta) and a script (Spamann_comment_Cho_dataanalysis.do) to recreate models 2,3, 5, and 6 of table 1 in Holger Spamann, Are Sleepy Punishers Really Harsh Punishers?: Comment, Psychological Science (forthcoming 2017). It also contains the raw data from the USSC (opafy92nid.dta through opafy03nid.dta), the USSC's codebooks explaining those data, and a second script (Spamann_comment_Cho_dataassembly_forweb.do) that generates USSCdata.dta from this raw data. The data and scripts are written for Stata (version 14). The analysis script calls user-written packages estout and reghdfe. Note that the scripts build and analyze ALL data mentioned in my article (i.e., not only models 2, 3, 5, and 6). The other data are available from: (a) TRAC data: by emailing [email protected] (TRAC will provide the data only to researchers affiliated with subscriber institutions); (b) Cho et al.’s original data: from the lead author of the original article, Kyoungmin Cho (I do not have permission to share their data). If you do not have access to the other data or want to restrict your work to the USSC data, you should comment out the parts of the script concerning other data. More information on running the scripts is contained in their first lines

    Holger Pedersen's "Études lithuaniennes" revisited

    No full text
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Holger Pedersen; Kirčiavimas; Dalyviai; Balsiai; Holger Pedersen; Participle; VowelThe article reviews Holger Pedersen’s study “Etudes lituaniennes”, which reflects the matters the then public discourse (1933) was focused on. The book consists of five sections of various sizes. The first section discusses the future of the Lithuanian language and its Indo-European roots. Attention is paid to the sigmatic formation, short stem vowels e and a, shortening of endings of the third person and the future participle. The second section reviews the accentuation of nouns: variable accentuation in Indo-European stems and the stability of accent in o-stem nouns, peculiarities of accentuation of forms of various cases, as well as the accentuation of adjectives. The third section is dedicated to the discussion of the acute accent of consonantal stems. The fourth section analyses future participle of the active. The fifth section discusses the secondary shift of vowels: the new length of vowels and modulations of acute accent. The review seeks to respond to the doubts as to whether Holger Pedersen thoughts about the mentioned above matters have survived to the present moment. Over 7 decades from the moment the study saw the light, a great number of works on analogous themes have been published. Therefore, the review aims to identify which new facts from the genesis of the morphology of nouns and verbs, which were unknown during the publication of the study, have been revealed to the present day. In order to highlight these differences, a comparative analysis has been performed preserving the original numeration of sections of the publication

Acido, ergo sum: Holger Hydén – the neuroscientist in Cortázar's Hopscotch

    No full text
The fictional Italian author Morelli is throughout the novel “Hopscotch” (1963) Julio Cortázar's alter ego. This character proposes an unoriginal literary hypothesis in chapter 62. There is an allusion to a particular Swedish that ‘is working on a chemical theory of thought.’ The Swedish neuroscientist under analysis is Holger Hydén (1917-2000), by then professor and chairman of the Department of Histology at the University of Göteborg. Hydén, who was the first to work in neurobiological micromethods, is mentioned by Morelli due to his participation in a symposium held at the end of January 1961, in San Francisco. His pioneering work will never be completely forgotten, because Hydén's neuroscientific legacy lives and will live in Cortázar's “Hopscotch”

Maaß cusp forms for large eigenvalues

    No full text
We investigate the numerical computation of Maaß cusp forms for the modular group corresponding to large eigenvalues. We present Fourier coefficients of two cusp forms whose eigenvalues exceed r = 40000. These eigenvalues are the largest that have so far been found in the case of the modular group. They are larger than the 130 millionth eigenvalue

LARGE SETS OF CONSECUTIVE MAASS FORMS AND FLUCTUATIONS IN THE WEYL REMAINDER

    No full text
We explore an algorithm which systematically finds all discrete eigenvalues of an analytic eigenvalue problem. The algorithm is more simple and elementary as could be expected before. It consists of Hejhal’s identity, linearisation, and Turing bounds. Using the algorithm, we compute more than one hundredsixty thousand consecutive eigenvalues of the Laplacian on the modular surface, and investigate the asymptotic and statistic properties of the fluctuations in the Weyl remainder. We summarize the findings in two conjectures. One is on the maximum size of the Weyl remainder, and the other is on the distribution of a suitably scaled version of the Weyl remainder

Design and Analysis of Rotary Positive Displacement Mechanism for Oil-Less Compression

    No full text
Author(s): Holger Roser University of Technology Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia In this paper, a simple positive displacement mechanism is investigated, which comprises two counter-rotating meshing rotors within a casing. Although considered for various applications more than a century ago, the basic geometry of this mechanism has not been further explored or adapted to modern gas compressor technology

This has entailed a look at the biography and career of each participant named in Baur’s account, seeking evidence of the movement, or al least the perturbations in these artists’ trajectory that would point to Inje-Inje. While some scholars have accepted Cahill’s assertion that Inje-Inje existed as an art movement, some have not. The shadow of a hoax then has hung over this investigation.</p

The study reconstructs the original order of fragments and examines the kolleseis of PHerc. 1021 to show that the scroll was composed of previously inscribed individual parts glued together in antiquity. It then investigates the use of this method in the writing of a literary work

Introduction to property theory - the fundamental theorems

    No full text
The market system consists of a price mechanism, built on the foundation of a system of property, and contract. In many developing, and transition economies, the market system functions poorly. In many cases, if not most, the malfunctioning is not simply in the price system (for example, anti-competitive activities), but in the underlying property system (such as contracts being breached, and externalities in the sense of transfers not covered by contracts). Economic theory tends to take the functioning of the system of property, and contract for granted, and focuses on the operation of the price mechanism. Property theory focuses on the underlying system of property, and contract. In this paper, the author inaugurates the mathematical treatment of property theory. In contrast with earlier work in"law and economics", and the"new institutional economics", this approach uses principles drawn from jurisprudence, and does not attempt to reduce"law"to"economics"in the sense of efficiency considerations, such as the minimization of transaction costs. The main results are the two fundamental theorems of property theory that are analogous to the two fundamental theorems of price theory that, in essence, state that: 1) A competitive equilibrium is Pareto optimal. 2) Given a Pareto optimal state, there exists a set of prices such, that a competitive equilibrium at those prices would realize that Pareto optimal state.Environmental Economics&Policies,Labor Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Municipal Housing and Land,Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Economic Theory&Research,Municipal Housing and Land,Land and Real Estate Development
