Following numerous statewide studies, The Lincy Institute has produced reports and policy briefs recommending significant structural changes to the State’s higher education landscape. To provide future generations of students with quality education and training in our 21st-century economy, researchers summarized findings and presented model legislation to improve the quality of education offered by Nevada’s eight institutions of higher learning. All Nevadans should demand an honest and transparent discussion of higher education reform. The 2019 legislative session will be a time for action. Over the past three years, researchers at The Lincy Institute and other institutions collected interviews from 80 Nevada leaders across sectors including elected officials, leaders in education, community organizations, government agencies, and the business community. Four years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our communities continue to build a resilient and healthy Nevada. This forum discusses how the crisis prompted us to rethink how we lead and how we can prepare for future challenges. Following a presentation of the project and its deliverables, leaders across sectors discuss lessons learned and opportunities for collaboration to enhance responsiveness

UNLV School of Medicine: Rethinking Governance, Planning, and Economic Impact
No full textThe launch of the UNLV School of Medicine presented a unique opportunity for Southern Nevada to address two critical issues: the absence of adequate healthcare services for a region of more than 2.2 million people, and the economic impact of a new medical school resulting in an expanded regional health care economy. A collaborative process that engages local, state, and private sector interests is essential to the development of the UNLV School of Medicine and the expansion of an effective, efficient, and profitable healthcare economy.
In this colloquium The Lincy Institute released new health policy publications prepared with the support of the UNLV School of Medicine, and hosted representatives of Tripp Umbach, the nation’s leading consultant on community health needs assessments, economic impact studies, feasibility studies, economic development, and strategic planning. Tripp Umbach presented options for funding and financing the construction of medical school facilities and was joined by UNLV faculty members who presented research and policy analyses focused on the growth and sustainability of the UNLV School of Medicine

No full textThis community forum examines the economic and societal impact of the “care economy” in Southern Nevada in collaboration with Tripp Umbach, a nationally recognized consulting firm that provides comprehensive services including research and strategic plans to further the operations and activities of healthcare services.
Central to the care economy is elder care and child care. Having access to elder care and child care services is essential to working age adults, many of whom need one or both types of services to continue participating in the workforce. The delivery of child care and elder care services have far-reaching implications for our families, our communities, and our economy, and the demand for these services will increase as our population continues to grow and age.
To help Southern Nevada address the economic and social implications of the care economy, this community forum features the release of new reports from Tripp Umbach and The Lincy Institute. In addition to assessing the current state of child care and elder care services in Southern Nevada, the reports offer policy recommendations to develop and strengthen these services in our region.
Following a presentation of data and policy recommendations by representatives of Tripp Umbach, a panel of elder care and child care specialists with expertise in academia, state and local government, and the nonprofit sector offer their perspectives on these issues

Developing a Stand-Alone Children’s Hospital in Southern Nevada: Improving Pediatric Care and Diversifying the Regional Economy
No full textSouthern Nevada is the largest metropolitan region in the country without a stand-alone children\u27s hospital. The absence of such a facility results in poor health outcomes for children, fragmented and inadequate specialized care, and a shortage of pediatric medical professionals. Currently ranked last in clinical care nationwide, Nevada urgently needs a centralized, academic-based children\u27s hospital to improve health services.
The Lincy Institute hosted a community forum to release the findings of a new report conducted by Tripp Umbach detailing why Southern Nevada needs a stand-alone children’s hospital. Tripp Umbach is a recognized industry leader, with 30 years of successful partnerships turning ideas into actionable outcomes for hundreds of clients across healthcare, higher education, industry and tourism fields throughout the United States and globally.
The Tripp Umbach report assesses how a stand-alone children’s hospital will enhance the existing pediatric care continuum and examines the economic benefits that such a facility will produce. Beyond economic gains, a children’s hospital will reduce outmigration of patients seeking care elsewhere, saving Nevada families millions in healthcare costs annually. By also attracting out-of-state patients, a children’s hospital will stimulate local spending and bolster Nevada\u27s growing healthcare infrastructure. The proposed hospital developed through robust partnerships represents a pivotal shift towards integrated pediatric care, promising better health outcomes through collaborative, community-focused efforts.
