Maestri, testi e fonti d’Oriente Masters, Texts and Sources of the East
Maestri, testi e fonti d'Oriente/Masters, Texts and Sources of the East is an open access and a peer reviewed book series sponsored by the Department of Asian and North African Studies. It aims to enhance theoretical and practical research across the main area studies of the Department. The series focuses on texts and sources which are often neglected and don’t find adequate recognition even in scholarly publications, running the risk of being lost once and for all. These are primarily oral/audio, visual, and documentary materials. The series is thought of as a repository of original, primary sources which for their rarity and originality deserve to be adequately preserved and made available to the scholarly community. “Masters, Texts, and Sources” must therefore be understood in the broadest sense, i.e. as an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural enterprise, intersecting the fields of linguistics, philology, literature, history, sociology, anthropology, and the arts
Packet Collision Probability of Direct-to-Satellite IoT Systems
We investigate the packet collision probability among uncoordinated devices, in the uplink of Direct-to-Satellite Internet of Things (DtS-IoT). Both the satellite spot shape and its motion along its orbital path are considered in the analysis. We analyze the probability of no uplink collision under two DtS-IoT settings: 1) unconfirmed ALOHA over a single channel, e.g., long-range wide-area network (LoRaWAN) class A with long-range chirp spread spectrum (LoRa-CSS) modulation and 2) unconfirmed ALOHA with frequency-hopping compliant with LoRaWAN class A with long-range frequency-hopping spread spectrum (LR-FHSS). A closed-form solution is derived for the former, while an upper bound is found for the latter. The analytical results are validated by comparison with the outcomes of extensive simulations, showing that the obtained closed-form expressions accurately predict the probability of no collision. Moreover, the upper bound for the frequency-hopping case is proven to be tighter when there are less than 35 hopping channels. Finally, we provide a concise performance comparison between LoRa-CSS and LR-FHSS in DtS-IoT, showing that LR-FHSS significantly increases the number of devices that can simultaneously transmit during a satellite pass, thereby enhancing uplink capacity
Wireless Network Analytics for the New Era of Spectrum Patrolling and Monitoring
The importance of networks in modern-day society is experiencing rapid and extensive growth, thanks to remarkable technological advancements. Next-generation wireless networks will confront a scenario where densely interconnected devices demand high data rates, at least 99.999 percent reliability, and extremely low latency for transmissions. In this context, securing the radio spectrum becomes a crucial task. While adopting artificial intelligence-based technologies can make networks more intelligent and self-governing, it also exposes them to new vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, while the networks evolve at a dramatic pace and the spectrum becomes increasingly crowded, the way we monitor its usage appears inadequate and sporadic. Therefore, the need for methods and procedures for large-scale autonomous spectrum monitoring seems inevitable to face future challenging scenarios. In this article, we present our perspective on a set of tools suitable for efficient spectrum monitoring, which we refer to as wireless network analytics
Packet Collision Probability Analysis in Contention-Based Direct-to-Satellite IoT Uplink
This paper considers a direct-to-satellite Internet of Things system where nodes on ground contend to deliver data packets to a low Earth orbit satellite, during its pass. In this framework, the paper focuses on the collision probability between the packets transmitted by the uncoordinated contending devices. An exact and closed-form expression for this probability is derived that considers both the satellite velocity and the different contention time widows the devices may have, depending on their positions on ground. The analytical expression, valid for a wide range of different shapes of the satellite spot, is validated by comparison with numerical simulations. Usage of the developed expression to upper bound the packet loss probability over realistic channels is discussed
La letteratura come vita e come speranza: pedagogia politica in Carlo Bo
Sammarco, Testi e linguaggi (2021)This paper offers a critical-hermeneutic analysis of hope in Carlo Bo’s thought, rooting it within a very
long tradition (Greek and Hebraic). The author then focuses the attention on the anthological text Scan dalo della Speranza, with which Bo entertains a dialogue with facts and faces of his time. Bo’s thought
follows a counter-factuality of hope, moving this notion beyond the mere facts, data or numbers. This
is a fil rouge that links Bo’s to the Pauline thought, bringing it and rooting it within the xx century, and
making it a truly topical subject
