    College Choice Mechanism: The Respect of the Vagueness of Choices

    No full text
    Taking as a starting point the theory of matching applied in the case of a problem of college admissions, where one is interested only to strict preference profiles for students and colleges, a part of the literature has been oriented towards profiles of priorities for colleges. In this paper we will assume that students have also their own priorities to which is associated some 'fuzzy'. This vagueness designates the preference of an individual (resp. college) for a college relative to parameters that characterize the latter one (resp. individual). Thus, we talk about fuzzy priorities. Our purpose is to analyze this aspect and to propose a real-life mechanism which will take into consideration the fuzzy priority profiles of both students and colleges, in order to achieve the best possible matching that is stable, strategy-proof, Pareto efficient and fair.Education, Priorities, Preferences, Fuzzy, Algorithm, Matching

    Measuring industry-science links through inventor-author relations: A profiling method

    No full text
    In this pilot study we examine the performance of text-based profiling in recovering a set of validated inventor-author links. In a first step we match patents and publications solely based on their similarity in content. Next, we compare inventor and author names on the highest ranked matches for the occurrence of name matches. Finally, we compare these candidate matches with the names listed in a validated set of inventor-author names. Our text-based profile methodology performs significantly better than a random matching of patents and publications, suggesting that text-based profiling is a valuable complementary tool to the name searches used in previous studies.innovation; industry-science links; text-based profiling;

    Mapping the Discipline of the Olympic Games An Author-Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
    The authors conducted an author cocitation analysis on prominent authors writing about the Olympics during the 1990s. Author cocitation is an established bibliometric technique that can be used to measure the relative similarities of topics written about by the cited authors. This enables a visual representation of the “intellectual space” of the discipline, in this case the Olympics, to be created for the period under review. So core and peripheral research areas are identified, along with their major contributors. The representation appears as a two-dimensional cluster-enhanced map. Subject expertise was then applied to the results to place labels on the generated clusters of authors and their topics

    ADAPTATION OF THE SOCIAL APPEARANCE ANXIETY SCALE (SAAS) TO TURKISH A VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY

    No full text
    Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS) was developed to measure social appearance by Hart et al (2008) The purpose of the present study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale 340 university students (143 female 197 male) participated in the study 1 he Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (BFNE) was used for the criterion validity In older to determine the construct validity of The Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS) exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted The factor analysis resulted in a factors The Cronbach's alpha for the SAAS was 93 and split-half 88 The computed test re test reliability coefficient for the SAAS was 85 There was 60 correlation between SAAS and BFNE Item total correlation coefficients of the Turkish SAAS ranged from 32 to 82 Analysis demonstrated that SAAS had a satisfactory level of reliability and validity in Turkish university student

    Dans cet exposé préliminaire, nous confronterons dans l’ordre ci-dessus, les faits avec les théories en cours, nous en indiquerons. quelque points faible et le améliorations ou compléments que nous entendons y apporter comme constituant le but de cette étude. Nous préciserons et justifierons le choix de méthodes de calcul et d'approximation adoptée . En effet, si les quelques solutions exactes déjà trouvées ont un intérêt évident, ne serait-ce que pour asseoir sur un terrain plu solide les solutions approchées, elle conduisent, en général, à des calcul trop complexe pour être utilisable couramment. Nous récapitulerons les solutions rigoureuses connues et les principales études parues antérieurement sur les sujets traités dans cette note

    Le pouvoir réfléchissant des ouvrages maritimes exposés à l'action de la houle

    No full text
    Cette Note fait suite à une communication préliminaire présentée à la Section d'Hydraulique fluviale et maritime de la Société Hydrotechnique de France. Elle expose un mode de calcul, en accord suffisant avec les données expérimentales, du pouvoir réfléchissant des ouvrages maritimes. Ce calcul, qui peut être fort abrégé· par l'emploi d' abaques, permet, notamment, de discriminer les facteurs agissant dans le sens d'une diminution du pouvoir réfléchissant et, partant, dans le sens d'une diminution de l'agitation d'un plan d'eau. La méthode préconisée paraît s'appliquer, avec une approximation, acceptable pour les besoins courants, à la majorité des types d'ouvrages maritimes; toute! ois, la Note suggère certains essais complémentaires en vue de généraliser son emploi ou pour approfondir quelques-uns des aspects de la 'question. Le problème complexe suivant est, tout d'abord évoqué : le pouvoir réfléchissant des ouvrages délimitant un port étant connu, comment peut-on en déduire l'agitation résultante aux divers points du plan d'eau
