Additions to the moss flora of Endau Rompin National Park, Johore State, peninsular Malaysia

    No full text
In a recent survey of the Endau Rompin National Park (ERNP) in Johore State, 81 species and 4 varieties of mosses were documented. This increases the previous count from 62 species and 3 varieties of mosses in ERNP to 111 species and 5 varieties in total. Of these, 30 species are new records for Johore State. Rhaphidostichum bunodicarpum and Trichosteleum stigmosum are two species new to Peninsular Malaysia. Thuidium assimile is a new record for West Malesia. A new combination, Papillidiopsis aquaticum (Dix.) Boon-Chuan Ho & B.C. Tan is proposed. In terms of species composition, the pan-tropical families of Calymperaceae, Fissidentaceae, Leucobryaceae and Sematophyllaceae predominate the moss flora of ERNP

    PRONTO heterogeneous benchmark dataset

    No full text
The PRONTO heterogeneous benchmark dataset is based on an industrial-scale multiphase flow facility. It includes data from heterogeneous sources, including process measurements, alarm records, high frequency ultrasonic flow and pressure measurements, an operation log and video recordings. The study collected data from various operational conditions with and without induced faults to generate a multi-rate, multi-modal dataset. The dataset is suitable for developing and validating algorithms for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) and data fusion. When using the dataset please cite the following publication: A. Stief, R. R&D Investment Decision and Optimal Subsidy

    No full text
This article assumes that a firm facing technological uncertainty must decide whether to purchase R&D capital at each instant. R&D capital exhibits both irreversibility and externality through the learning‐by‐doing effect. The combination of irreversibility and uncertainty drives agents to be more prudent; the maxim `better safe than sorry' applies. This maxim is more important if uncertainty is greater, technology progresses at a lower pace, the externality is stronger, or a catastrophic event is less likely to occur. A firm ignoring the externality will both invest later and disinvest earlier than a social planner who internalizes the externality. An equal rate of investment tax credits should be given to both costlessly reversible investments and irreversible ones, and the same rate of taxation should be imposed on disinvestment

M. K. Tan, 25 July 2014; 1 male (CIL.02.3.03, in alcohol), Central Catchment Nature Reserve, MacRitchie forest, near MacRitchie Nature Trail, disturbed forest, on leaf litter, coll. M. K. Tan, H. Yeo & R. W. J. Ngiam, 31 August 2014. Remarks. Type material along with new material were examined for comparison with the other Micrornebius species. Life history. Unlike the other Micrornebius species described here, Micrornebius kopisua tends to inhabit the leaf litter among leaves and plant parts near the ground (Fig. 2). They were not found to be hiding underneath tree bark so far.Published as part of Tan, Ming Kai, 2014, New species of small scaly crickets of genus Micrornebius (Orthoptera: Mogoplistidae; Mogoplistinae) from Singapore, pp. 117-126 in Zootaxa 3895 (1) on page 121, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3895.1.7, http://zenodo.org/record/22619

Total synthesis of TAN-1057 and analogues

1997 Spring.Includes bibliographical references.Part I. An asymmetric and stereochemically unambiguous construction of diaminopimelic acid and related system using the chiral, non-racemic diphenyl oxazinones glycinate templates has been developed. The preparations of (R,R)-DAP, (S,S)-DAP, (S,S)-2,7-diaminosuberic acid, and mono-N-protected (S,R)-DAP are described. The synthesis of γ-D(L)-glutamyl-L-meso-diaminopimelic acid dipeptide, a subunit of both FK-156 and FK-565, is also described. The availability of both optical antipodes of the glycinate templates renders this chemistry adaptable to prepare all possible diastereoisomers of substances based on the DAP skeleton in optically pure form.Part II. The first total synthesis of anti-MRSA dipeptides TAN-1057 A~D has been achieved. A new efficient method for preparation of amidinoureas has been developed and successfully applied to the total synthesis of TAN-1057. More importantly, this concise total synthesis paves the way for access to analogues that are not available from natural sources. Eight new analogues of TAN-1057 were designed, synthesized and assayed against MRSA. A new synthetic analogue 102 (CY-1800) showed very similar activity to that of TAN-1057. Other analogues prepared showed weak or no activity against Staphylococcus aureus up to 1 mg/mL. The success on discovery of a new potent anti-MRSA analogue proved the usefulness of this highly flexible strategy for the development of better analogues than the natural ones for the potential use as antibiotics

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Project Titan computers for R U Tan salons

    No full text
E & T Consultants, Inc. received the objective of completing a project, by Professor Gary Moser, for the capstone project. With the aid of Professor Moser, our ITM 490A/B instructor, and our sponsor, Alan Guerra of Titan Computers for their client R U Tan Salons, we provided recommendations to fulfill the client’s request. R U Tan Salons is a local tanning salon that began its business in Rancho Cordova, CA. From there, R U Tan Salons acquired two more salons located in downtown Sacramento, CA and Citrus Heights, CA. Because of its expanding business, R U Tan Salons is requesting to interconnect the three locations and merge the databases so that customers can use any salon. Additionally they wish to upgrade equipment and acquire a computerized cashiering system to enhance productivity as well as to simplify computer tasks. The project sponsor, Alan Guerra, is the owner of Titan Computers. R U Tan Salons contracted with Alan to develop and implement the required system. In turn, Alan contracted with E & T Consultants, Inc. for their assistance as consultants in the development of a plan to implement their recommendations. The plan will demonstrate the network system, POS system, and software and hardware used that will allow employees and management to perform their job duties with ease by means of the user-friendly interfaces of the software. However, due to changes in resources and sponsor requirements as of June 3, 2011, an alternative project procedure will be taken in accomplishing the sponsor’s request
