    Screening Unknown Novel Psychoactive Substances Using GC-MS Based Machine Learning

    In recent years, there is a large increase in structural diversity of novel psychoactive substances (NPS), exacerbating drug abuse issues as these variants evade classical detection methods such as spectral library matching. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is commonly used to identify these NPS. To tackle this issue, machine learning models are developed to address the analytical challenge of identifying unknown NPS, using only GC-MS data. 891 GC-MS spectra are used to train and evaluate multiple supervised machine learning classifiers, namely artificial neural network (ANN), convolutional neural network (CNN) and balanced random forest (BRF). 7 classes, comprising 6 NPS classes (cathinone, cannabinoids, phenethylamine, piperazine, tryptamines and fentanyl) and other unrelated compounds can be effectively classified with a macro-F1 score ~ 0.9, averaged across all cross-validation folds. These results indicate that machine learning models are a promising complement as an effective NPS detection tool

    Canadians expect the same access to health care whether they are rich or poor, and wherever they live, often without direct charge at the point of service. However, we find that the private cost of long-term care differs greatly across the country, and within provinces, we find substantial variation, depending on income level, marital status, and, in Quebec alone, on assets owned. A non-married person with average income would pay more than twice as much in the Atlantic provinces as in Quebec, while a couple with one in care would pay almost four times as much in Newfoundland as in Alberta.long-term care, private cost

    Dit rapport is een aanvulling op het eindverslag van het onderzoek naar het gedrag van kunststof GC elementen voor oever- en bodembescherming. Conclusies van dat (schaal-) onderzoek waren dat een structuur van GC elementen verrassend sterke hydraulische eigenschappen bezit en daarmee interessant is als erosiebeschermer bij bodem en oeverconstructies. Beperking in het gebruik lag bij \u93stabiliteit\u94. Onder sterke stroming of golfslag was het pakket onvoldoende stabiel. Zo werden er onder zeer sterke stroming flarden uit getrokken, of bewoog het pakket enigszins onder golfslag op een talud. Er werden verschillende kunststoffen gebruikt, met verschillende soortelijke gewichten. Uit extrapolatie en precieze bestudering van het bezwijken kon verwacht worden dat gebruik van sterkere GC\u92s (minder elastisch) en zwaardere GC\u92s (stabieler) het bereik waarin de GC gebruikt kan worden aanzienlijk zou moeten kunnen vergroten

    Characterization and Discrimination of Volatile Compounds in Chilled Tan Mutton Meat during Storage Using HiSorb-TD-GC-MS and E-Nose

    Chilled Tan mutton is currently the mainstream of Tan mutton production and consumption in China, but the reports on chilled meat quality evaluation and shelf-life discrimination by volatiles are limited. This study aimed to investigate the changes of volatile compounds in chilled Tan mutton at four storage stages (1d, 3d, 5d, 7d) in order to differentiate the various storage stages. An analysis protocol was established for the characterization and discrimination of the volatiles in chilled Tan mutton based on high capacity sorptive extraction-thermal desorption-gas coupled with chromatography-mass spectrometry (HiSorb-TD-GC-MS), electronic nose (E-nose), and multivariate statistical analysis. A total of 96 volatile compounds were identified by HiSorb-TD-GC-MS, in which six compounds with relative odor activity value &gt;1 were screened as the key characteristic volatiles in chilled Tan mutton. Four storage stages were discriminated by partial least squares discriminant analysis, and nine differential volatile compounds showed a variable importance for the projection score &gt;1, including octanoic acid, methyl ester, decanoic acid, methyl ester, acetic acid, heptanoic acid, methyl ester, propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-, methyl ester, (&ntilde;)-, hexanoic acid, propanoic acid, butanoic acid, and nonanoic acid. With the volcano plot analysis, hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester, was the common volatile marker candidate to discriminate chilled stages of Tan mutton. Meanwhile, E-nose could discriminate chilled Tan mutton at different storage stages rapidly and efficiently using linear discriminant analysis. Furthermore, E-nose sensors could obtain comprehensive volatile profile information, especially in esters, acids, and alcohols, which could confirm the potential of E-nose for meat odor recognition.     Migration of phthalates from food packaging into food has caused exposure of human on these compounds. Also, these compounds may cause adverse effect on human and thus, identification and quantification of these compounds in food become more particular. Simple and rapid methods have been developed for the simultaneous determination of six phthalate compounds in the food samples including drinking water, milk, cereal and instant noodles by using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The six phthalate compounds been examined were dimethylphthlate (DMP), diethylphthalate (DEP), dibutylphthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), diethylhexylphthalate (DEHP) and dioctylphthlate (DNOP). For both liquid and solid samples, extractions were done by using solvent n-hexane. For liquid samples, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 3.3 μg/L and 10 μg/L respectively. While for solid samples, the LOD and LOQ were 0.33 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg respectively. The sample spiked recoveries were in the range of 72.9-124.9 % with relatively low relative standard deviation (RSD) that was below 3.30 %

    Oblique derivative problems for second order equations of mixed type in multiply connected domains

    In this paper, oblique derivative boundary value problems for second order equations of mixed (elliptic-hyperbolic) type in multiply connected domains is discussed. Firstly the representation of solutions for the above boundary value problem is given, afterwards the uniqueness and existence of solutions of the above problem are stated. In book [1], the author proposed the Dirichlet boundary value problem (Tricomi problem) for second order equations of mixed type in multiply connected domains. In [2, 3], the author only discussed the Dirichlet problem (Tricomi T-2 for the equation u(xx) + sgny u(yy) = 0 in a special doubly connected domain. Up to now we have not seen that other authors have solved it in multiply connected domains.
