Adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici nelle green city: sperimentazioni progettuali in quattro quartieri IACP di Roma
No full textThis chapter passes from theoretical analysis to the implementation of a research effort on urban regeneration in accordance with the Climate Adaptive Design (CAD) model in an area in the northwest quadrant of the Roman periphery. Providing a general overview of the area and analyzing its physical, morphological, and socioeconomic aspects, the research is aimed at strengthening the use of natural bioclimatic factors with a view to environmental comfort and sustainability and to reinforcing the capacities of resilience and adaptation to the eff ects of climate change – while reducing energy consumption and pollutant emissions. The chapter goes on to describe the applied methodology, the research steps, and the examined parameters that led to redefi ning the intervention strategies for repurposing individual areas and public spaces, and for requalifying green spaces and dwellings. The impacts of the design choices in terms of performance are analyzed in the situation before and after the intervention, providing the exact measure of the planned restoration. The experimentation, though, is not an end unto itself, because it has the dynamic dimension of a work in progress, open to contributions from other scholars

Full text linkIl report prende in esame un intervento di rigenerazione urbana di un quartiere periferico di Roma per il quale l’approccio adottato è quello del green city approach, una piattaforma di quadro strategico d'intervento che mette a sistema l’elevata qualità ambientale, l’efficienza e la circolarità delle risorse, la mitigazione delle cause dei cambiamenti climatici in un quadro di benessere basato sull’inclusione sociale e sullo sviluppo di lunga durata della città. Il quartiere di Torrevecchia si trova "confinato" fra un’area urbana, quella di Primavalle, non esente da problematicità di vario tipo, e quella agreste della Valle dei Fontanili, a forte vocazione naturalistica ma degradata, esterna all’area di studio. Il quartiere come molte aree periferiche è in cerca di una definizione per sfuggire all’emarginazione e al sottosviluppo. Il modulo progettuale dal punto di vista metodologico ha una valenza generalizzabile e una implementazione in progress.This report examines an urban regeneration in a peripheral neighbourhood of Rome for which the green city approach was chosen: A strategic framework platform for intervention that systematizes high environmental quality, efficiency, and circularity of resources, climate change mitigation in a well-being based framework upon on social inclusion city’s long[1]term development. The Torrevecchia neighbourhood is “confined” between an urban area, Primavalle, which is not free from various problems, and the rural one of Valle dei Fontanili, with a strong presence of albeit decayed nature lying outside the study area. The neighbourhood, like many peripheral areas, is looking for a definition to escape marginalization and underdevelopment. From the methodological perspective, the project module has a generalizable value and an implementation in progress

No full textThis paper is the combined outcome of the results of two research projects whose Principal Investigator was the first author1. The primary objective: to produce a model providing scientific support for the project development of retrofitting initiatives for public spaces and public constructions in Italian cities, with the first area of implementation being Rome, in order to achieve increased levels of resilience and capacity for climatic adaptation while also heightening ecosystem quality and all aspects of environmental performance, primarily to mitigate climate change, reduce CO2 levels and increase energy efficiency through initiatives of urban and environmental upgrading and renewal under the Green City Approach. The methodological approach is based, as determined in part through consultation of the scientific literature, on the following steps: establishment of a reference framework and identification of technological systems subject to experimentation; definition of working scenarios and development of alternative analyses to be applied to them with innovative instruments; focus on the most appropriate solutions, based on the results of dynamic simulations; formulation of a working model that adapts itself to different contexts

No full textLe nuove frontiere dell'involucro architettonico, nella sperimentazione contemporanea e nei futuri sviluppi delle nostre città, lo vedono sempre più protagonista e strategico per operare la ormai imprescindibile esigenza di adattività, flessibilità, selettività e polivalenza, richiesta ad architetture che non potranno che essere sempre più climaticamente sensibili, ambientalmente reattive, variabili nelle proprietà, dinamiche nelle prestazioni, adattive nelle configurazioni, resilienti nei comportamenti. Per questo i tre libri che articolano il presente cofanetto affrontano i temi di frontiera dei 'Climate Responsive Envelopes', dei 'Variables Properties Envelopes' e degli 'Adaptive Resilient Envelopes'.
Secondo tale visione l’involucro degli edifici deve essere in grado di mutare i suoi caratteri e le sue performance, di adattarsi al cambiare delle diverse condizioni climatico-ambientali nel corso della giornata, nel corso dell'anno, finanche nel corso della vita dell'organismo edilizio e dell'uomo che lo abita; e di interagire ogni volta in modo diverso con la luce, il calore, il suono, il vento, i fenomeni meteorici e gli agenti atmosferici nel loro complesso. L’involucro diventa così lo strumento fondamentale per mettere in atto le difficili e complesse operazioni di selezione, interazione, filtro tra i fattori macroambientali esterni e quelli microambientali interni, necessarie per mantenere in equilibrio le condizioni di ottimalità per lo stato climatico generale dell’edificio, e allo stesso tempo per garantire il più alto grado di comfort ambientale, il più basso livello di fabbisogno energetico, il più elevato grado di efficacia ecologica, la più alta capacità di adattamento e mitigazione climatici, conseguibili da parte di quella determinata architettura da esso confinata.
Di più, il suo essere oggetto chiamato direttamente in causa nel confronto dialettico artificio/ambiente, lo configura come il "luogo", fisico e metaforico, deputato ad assumere un ruolo insostituibile di mediazione architettonica e costruttiva spaziale (tra il 'dentro' e il 'fuori') e temporale (tra il 'prima' e il 'dopo'). E allo stesso tempo lo indica come la componente progettuale su cui sempre più fortemente graverà il peso degli effetti di tale mediazione, sia nella loro accezione 'creativa' di parametri geometrici e architettonici, d'insieme e di dettaglio; sia nel loro influsso sui caratteri socio-ambientali e psico-culturali degli spazi di contesto.New frontiers in the design of architectural envelopes, reached through contemporary experimentation and as future developments in urban construction, play an increasingly strategic role in satisfying what is fast becoming an inexorable need for adaptability, flexibility, selectivity and multifunctional versatility on the part of architectural solutions that are called on, ever more frequently, to be climatically sensitive and environmentally reactive, with variable properties and dynamic performance levels, plus adaptable configurations and elevated resilience. With this in mind, the three books of the boxed set address the cutting-edge topics of: 'Climate Responsive Envelopes', 'Variable Properties Envelopes' and 'Adaptive Resilient Envelopes'.
Building envelopes must be capable of transforming their features and performance characteristics in response to climatic-environmental variations during a given day or year, or even in different periods of the lives of the constructed organism or its inhabitants; they must also be able to interact in varying ways with light, heat, sound, wind, the weather and atmospheric agents in general, making the envelope a vitally important tool in the difficult and complex selection, interaction and filtering operations needed to properly balance external macro-environmental factors with internal micro-environmental ones, to ensure optimal conditions in the overall climatic state of the building while, at the same time, guaranteeing the highest possible environmental comfort, minimising energy needs and maximising ecological effectiveness, plus the capacity for climate adaptation and mitigation obtainable from the architecture enclosed by a given envelope.
Furthermore, the fact that the envelope is directly involved in the artificial/environmental dialectic makes it a “venue” that plays, both physically and metaphorically, an irreplaceable role in the mediation, in terms of architecture and construction, of space (between 'inside' and 'outside') and time (between 'before' and 'after'). But the envelope is also the design component that bears, to an ever increasing extent, the weight of the effects of this mediation, both in terms of the ‘creative’ repercussions of the geometrical and architectural parameters, whether taken as a whole or in detail, and as regards their influence on the socio-environmental and psycho-cultural features of the spaces of the overall context

iniziativa fortemente voluta come azione congiunta e coordinata tra i Cluster Servizi
della Collettività e Nearly Zero Energy Building - NZEB in tempi del tutto antecedenti
alla pandemia e alle drammatiche conseguenze che oggi ci troviamo ad afrontare.
Sicuramente all’epoca in cui si ragionava tra coordinatori dei due Cluster per
promuovere l’iniziativa, eravamo concentrati sulla ricerca di quegli elementi che potessero
farci “lavorare insieme”, sulle questioni che ci potessero accomunare, sulle
possibili sovrapposizioni e intersezioni tra gli ambiti di ricerca praticati nell’ambito
della nostra più ampia disciplin
Green Economy for Sustainable and Adaptive Architectures and Cities. Objectives, Guidelines, Measures, Actions
Full text linkSeveral analyses and reports in the world of Sustainable and Adaptive Design are pointing in the direction of what is known as a ‘Green City Approach’: an integrated, multisectoral approach to the planning and implementation of improvements that aim to increase levels of well-being, social inclusion and long-lasting development in cities, based on the now decisive aspects of the high environmental quality, efficiency and circularity of resources and on climate change mitigation and adaptation. In Italy, this new approach has been supported by significant contributions. The PRIN Research (Project of Relevant National Interest) “Adaptive Design and Technological Innovations for the Resilient Regeneration of Urban Districts in System of Climate Change” funded by the Italian Ministry of Scientific Research, has developed these themes for three years (2016-2019). In addition, in coordination with PRIN Research developments, in early 2017 the "La Città Futura" Manifesto, presented by lecturers from a dozen universities in the world, was launched as part of the initiatives of the State’s General of the Green Economy, and over the past year the development of this new approach has been boosted by the international Green City Network promoted by the Sustainable Development Foundation (2017-2019). The basic aim was to launch a debate - with a close confrontation with the international design experimentation scenario – and elaborate guidelines fostering future developments as regards the relationship between the main principals that lie at the heart of the Green Economy and Adaptive Design, architectural and urban growth, regeneration, and development, attempting to bring all the cities closer to the development approach of many cities in the world that have already achieved significant results as regards ‘green’ growth and redevelopment

No full textIl delicato passaggio tra costruzione del complessivo impianto teorico-metodologico della ricerca PRIN - restituito nel primo volume - e sviluppo di quello operativo come quadro di riferimento per una sua efficace applicabilità nei contesti urbani - oggetto del presente volume - trova il suo focus più significativo nel momento della sperimentazione progettuale-dimostrativa, e nel modo in cui tale sperimentazione è stata condotta dalle unità operative di sede e dai gruppi di lavoro di expertise multiculturale e inter- (vedremo perfino infra-) disciplinare, anche internazionali, a queste connesse. Tale centrale momento della sperimentazione si fonda su alcune profonde consapevolezze, che hanno informato il modo stesso di svilupparla, e che quindi vale la pena ricordare: come l’attuale contesto della ricerca europea - nel suo sviluppo da un decennio a questa parte - individui l'ambiente costruito, e in particolare i distretti delle città, quale ambito preferenziale di sperimentazione per la transizione verso una società carbon-neutral e un'economia green e circular; come la recente programmazione della politica tecnica nazionale e internazionale individui nella rigenerazione delle aree urbane un volàno capace di determinare positive ricadute per uno sviluppo di effettiva lotta ai cambiamenti climatici e di sostenibilità ambientale, sociale ed economica; come la combinazione delle note ed evidenti criticità proprie delle periferie e delle aree di margine si accompagni a quello che sarà un tendenziale peggioramento delle condizioni climatiche in termini di isole di calore urbano, ondate di calore, pluvial flooding, fenomeni di siccità e aridità, aumento vertiginoso di ventosità estreme e devastanti; e come per tali contesti sia emersa in questi ultimi anni la inderogabile esigenza di una concreta sperimentazione progettuale sul campo, che possa indirizzare i processi di rigenerazione urbana verso obiettivi climate oriented di resilienza e di adattività, inquadrati nelle più vaste linee di sviluppo improntate sugli assi portanti ecologico, energetico e bioclimatico, e integrati con le strategie volte a migliorare gli aspetti di mitigazione, sicurezza, comfort, salute, uso razionale delle risorse.The delicate passage between the construction of the overall theoretical-methodological framework of the PRIN research – illustrated in the first volume - and the development of the operational context as a reference framework for its effective application in urban contexts - the subject of this volume - finds its most significant expression in the moment of the project-demonstration experimentation, and in the way this experimentation was conducted by the central operational units of the effort, together with the multicultural, interdisciplinary (and even ‘infra-disciplinary’, as shall be seen) workgroups, some of them international, that also contributed their expertise. This central moment of experimentation is based on some profound considerations underlying the very approach taken to the work, and which are therefore worth remembering: the way in which the current research in Europe identifies the built environment, and in particular city districts, as a preferential field of experimentation for the transition to a carbon-neutral society and a green and circular economy; how the recent planning of national and international technical policies identifies the regeneration of urban areas as a catalyst capable of having positive repercussions on the development of effective measures against climate change and environmental, social and economic sustainability; how the combination of the widely known and readily apparent problems of suburbs and fringe areas is accompanied by what will be a worsening trend in climatic conditions, in the form of urban heat islands, heat waves, pluvial flooding, drought and aridity, plus dramatic increases in extreme and devastating winds; and how these contexts, in recent years, have highlighted the imperative need for concrete design experimentation in the field, so as to channel the processes of urban regeneration towards objectives of climate-oriented resilience and adaptability, framing them as part of broader trends of development based on the axes of ecology, energy and bioclimatic factors, with the further addition of strategies to improve the aspects of mitigation, safety, comfort, health and rational use of resources
