Conclusioni (sul tradurre il greco)
Tradurre è impossibile, perché tradurre equivale a tradire l'originale.
According to the methodological issues set out at Thucydides I 22,1 the speeches in his text are
restored by the author, not mere rhetorical exercises. Thucydides writes them to reproduce the
deep and core of willing and political ideas of the orators. So, the speeches show Thucydides’
true interpretation of deeds and war. He thought to find out the truth, but his truth is only a
relative one
Recent sand sediments grain-size determination by Image Analysis
Presented in this study is the application of the Image Analysis (I.A.) technique as alternative to the traditional mechanical sieving methods for grain size determination (Bonardi & Tosi, 1994a). The application of Image Analysis technique to study the grain size of recent sand sediments has produced analytical data that are comparable to those obtained by conventional methods. Furthermore, the use of the Image Analysis has provided additional morphological parameters such as grain elongation, shape and roundness that can be useful clues to depositional environment reconstruction.PublishedQingdao, China6A. Aeschylus' Scholia in ms. Ath. Iber. 209: Two Examples
Among the scholia to Aeschylus’ Persae preserved by the ms. Ath. Iber. 209 (12th–14th century), the one to v. 14 takes over a glossographic exegesis of the words ἱππότης and ἱππηλάτης as φυγάς, using it for an ἱππεύς which probably left the interpreters uncertain of the difference between ἄγγελος and ἱππεύς. The scholium on vv. 869–871 recalls two passages of Eustathius’ commentary to the Iliad, with a clear simplification; it belongs to a section, in the ms., which offers mostly scholia belonging to the A-family, which, according to Smith, derive from a lost commentary by Tzetzes, who, in turn, would have recalled Eustathius’ commentary to the Iliad. Nevertheless, a thorough analysis of this particular case shows that the situation is more complex. Finally, in this scholium we find the fragment of an anonymous author, which could be tragic, and, in particular, Euripidean
Very high resolution seismic surveys in the lagoon and gulf of Venice shallow waters
Within the framework of the geological mapping of the Venice area (CARG Project: Map Sheet 128 “Venezia” and Map Sheet 148-149 “Chioggia-Malamocco”) a very high resolution seismic survey (VHRS) was carried out to correlate data from hundreds of cores with the main aim to map the depth of the Late Pleistocene and Holocene unconformity (Brancolini et al., 2005; Rizzetto et al., 2005; Tosi et al., 2006a,b). Due to logistic and technical limits, the acquisition of seismic survey in the Venice Lagoon was restricted to the channels with more of 5 m water depth, most of them artificial or dredged. A new survey, with the aim to extend the VHRS surveys to the shallow water, such as the tidal flats, is in progress within the Co.Ri.La. Project framework (3.16 Subproject). The Co.Ri.La 3.16 Subproject is based on an acquisition system installed on a boat with a very shallow draught. The new survey will allow the detection and mapping of many interesting geological-geomorphologic structures, i.e. paleoriver beds, ancient lagoon channels and shoreline ridges, that are like-outcropping, and that have been only partially recognized in the previous surveys.PublishedBarcelona (Spain)7A.
