After a visit to Kendal in 1821, Ann Shipley who may have been a Quaker minister or who may have been traveling as a companion to a minister, thanked Thomas Rotch for his hospitality. She mentions that she is glad to know that Rotch's state of health has improved.' Rotch was intermittently ill in 1821 with recurrent fevers. Leaving Ohio, Ann Shipley traveled to the Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends attended by many non-Quakers, 'the journey was attended with some inconveniences and some danger from bad roads,' she mentions that 'J D Hicks (possibly a minister, 1791-1829) left us at the first meeting in white water,' possibly Whitewater, Hamilton Township, Ohio, and in the process of their journey, they stopped at taverns along the way. 7.9" x 9.95" (20.2 by 25.3 cm
