Frequency Shifting of Femtosecond Pulses by Reflection at Solitons
The frequency shifting of an ultrashort optical pulse through reflection at a fundamental soliton is experimentally investigated in a microstructured optical fiber. The frequency up- and down-conversion is observed with efficiencies up to 70%. Through employing femtosecond pulses, relevant features of the interaction are highlighted, and the role of either the leading or the trailing edge of the soliton is proven
A Fermat's spiral multifilament-core fiber
A multifilament-core optical fiber where the microstructure is arranged in a Fermat’s spiral is presented. The properties of such a fiber to be exploited for laser light amplification are numerically investigated by means of a full-vectorial finite-element method. Thanks to this peculiar microstructure, the fiber is shown to have an increased Brillouin threshold power and very low bending losses, while preserving a very good beam spatial quality
Picosecond synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator delivering transform-limited pulses in the degeneracy region
We report about a PPKTP optical parametric oscillator synchronously pumped by a picosecond Ti:Sapphire laser. The system is tunable in the spectral region around 1.55 lm which corresponds to the degeneracy wavelength. Nevertheless, it is able to deliver transform-limited pulses thanks to the insertion of a properly designed birefringent filter which ensures single-frequency operation as well. The resonating wavelength can be tuned for more than 100 nm by a simple rotation of the filter and is proven to be insensitive to cavity length detuning and pump wavelength drift
