He was a member of the University of Pennsylvania Board of Trustees and of the Penn Law School Board of Overseers. Tanenbaum Hall in the Law School is named after his daughter Nicole. He died in 2012

    The Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) was founded to foster the adoption of Open Science at neuroscience research institutes in Canada and beyond. TOSI is based at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), the first biomedical institute to embrace Open Science, in 2016. In addition to promoting Open Science within The Neuro, TOSI engages in strategic collaborations and partnerships through its Open Science Support and Partnership Framework. TOSI supports and guides other institutes in adopting Open Science practices and principles and establishes a network of neuroscience research institutes committed to Open Science.
