Consumption of unsafe water in developing countries results in considerable number of illnesses and deaths annually. The World Health Organization and the International Water Association are promoting the use of water safety plans (WSPs), a risk management approach aimed at attaining water safety. This study investigated how culture impacts on the implementation of WSPs in these countries. Combining interpretive and critical paradigms resulted in the choice of qualitative methodologies utilizing multiple-case studies. Cases from India, Uganda, and Jamaica are each embedded with three units of analysis: promoters of WSPs, water utilities and their customers. Thematic analysis of data generated from semi-structured interviews, field observations and documents revealed eleven cultural factors impacting on the implementation of WSPs. Analyses of these factors led to various groupings and the subsequent development of a taxonomy categorizing these factors as being either enabling, limiting, or neutral in relation to WSPs. Findings show all the limiting factors to be deviations from the values and principles on which they are built. The findings have also led to the development of a culturally adapted risk management framework. This four-step cyclical & iterative framework is designed to address the impact of culture on the implementation of WSPs. The implementation of WSPs will take time and will require continuous improvement to the process. The successful management of drinking water risks in developing countries will require a broad institutional approach and a concerted effort that involves institutions beyond the water utilities. As such, targeted recommendations are first made towards achievement of good governance. Activities that will lead to the embracement of WSP by stakeholders along with suggestions to attain its institutionalization are also put forward. Recommendations towards addressing negative cultural factors include suggestions on dealing with: pollution causing rituals, bettering storage related practices, addressing excessive water use in rituals, counteracting belief that water should be free, fighting corruption and improving compliance, changing deliver-first safety-later attitude, and improving knowledge management practices

The thesis is anchored upon a text extracted from an important 11th / 17th century Yemeni historical work. This text deals primarily with al-Hādī ilā 'I-Haqq, the founder of the Zaydī Imamate in the Yemen that lasted well over a thousand years. AI-Hādīs imamate, of considerable significance in itself, also coincides with one of the most turbulent periods of early Yemeni mediaeval history. The- edited Arabic text, with its accompanying apparatus criticus. Is to be found at the opposite end of this volume. The Introduction considers various aspects of Imam al-Hadī’s life, religious ideas and aspirations and matters directly connected with the edited text and the work of which it forms a part. Among the most important subjects discussed are the MSS used in the production of the edited text, the problem concerning the authorship of Ghāyat al-amānī and the relationship of the latter work to Anbā' al-zaman. A short biography of al-Hādī is provided, together with a treatment of the historical background to ai-Hādīs imamate. The introduction also describes the editorial method followed with regard to the text, and certain key personal names and toponyms are dealt with there. The method employed by the author of the Ghāyat is to record the events of any one year by Itself. I have translated one year at a time and then followed it by the annotations appertaining to it. It is hoped that by means of these annotations. (some of which through necessity are quite detailed ), the text will be better understood. The numerous personages, tribal names and toponyms are considered, as well as problems concerning points of chronology and various matters of historical and religious significance. Specific comment is made upon certain interesting terms or any unusual or striking vocabulary. The thesis concludes with maps, genealogical tables and a comprehensive bibliography

Performativ poesi. Ein studie av identitet og identitetskonflikt i YAHYA HASSAN og YAHYA HASSAN 2

In this master thesis, I have examined the thematisation of identity and identity conflict in the two poetry anthologies YAHYA HASSAN and YAHYA HASSAN 2. Yahya Hassan wrote autobiographical poems, and thus his work became a way to explore his own identity in poetic form. The theoretical basis supporting my literary analysis has been Jon Helt Haarders’concept of performative biographism and sociological identity theory. Through analysing a selection of poems, I have achieved a more in-depth interpretation of how the many voices of the lyrical subject present in the anthologies reveal themselves. The many subject-voices are also in conflict with one another. Following this, I have chosento focus on two identity markers that I argue are particularly oppositional. The gangster is situated on one side and the author on the other. An additional objective has been to point out features within the anthologies and the phenomenon Yahya Hassan. Using genre theory as a methodological approach, this project aspires to contribute and further develop the theoretical perspective of performative biographism to encompass performative poetry. In this thesis, I have examined how Yahya Hassan uses autobiographical material in his poems and how YAHYA HASSAN and YAHYA HASSAN2consequently becomes performative poetry

The Potter's Marks of Tepe Yahya

This article discusses a group of nearly 400 potter's marks from the site of Tepe Yahya in Kerman province, southern Iran. The potter's marks have been typologically classified, and their distribution by period and phase is shown in a series of tables. The function of these signs is only briefly discussed, while greater attention is given to correspondences between the potter's marks of the Indo-Iranian borderlands and both the Proto-Elamite and Harappan scripts. Potts Daniel T. The Potter's Marks of Tepe Yahya. Analysis of a newly prepared plan of the major architectural complex of Yahya Period IVC indicates that its builders used a linear masure of 72 centimeters, measuring from the outsides of exterior walls to the mid-lines of interior walls. This aspect of the architectural code of Tepe Yahya in eastern Iran may also be found at Habuba Kabira in central Syria, and at other contemporary late IVth millennium sites.L'examen du principal complexe architectural de la période IVC à Tepe Yahya montre que les bâtisseurs se sont servi d'une unité de mesure linéaire égale à 72 cm, utilisée depuis la face externe des murs extérieurs jusqu'au centre des murs de partition. On retrouverait ce même système de mensuration non seulement à Tepe Yahya en Iran oriental mais aussi à Habuba Kabira en Syrie centrale et sur d'autres sites contemporains datant du IVe millénaire.Beale Thomas Wight, Carter Sarah M. Importance-Satisfaction Analysis for Tioman Island Marine Park

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the importance and satisfaction level of tourists at the Tioman Island Marine Park (TIMP) toward the island’s environmental attributes and service quality offered. This research analyses the overall tourists, as well as comparison between the local and foreign tourists. The measurement of importance and satisfaction is based on the mean analysis, i.e. the importance mean (estimated/expected mean) and the perceived mean (satisfactory mean). The difference between these mean values shows the gap value. The gap analysis in this research is assisted by the t-analysis in explaining the existence of difference, if any. If there is no difference in this analysis, it shows that the tourists get what they expected from their trips to the TIMP. However, if there is existence of difference, it must be ascertained as to whether the trips satisfy their expectations or otherwise. Again, the gap analysis will be able to answer this question. The research result shows that all tourists (both locals and foreign) agree on the importance and satisfaction toward the TIMP‘s environmental attributes and service quality offered. Besides the existence of difference in value between the said means, whether through the gap analysis or the paired t-test; the gap analysis finds that the mean values for most of the environmental attributes and service quality evaluated, are negative. Thus, these negative values indicate a relatively low satisfaction level.Tourists’ perceptions, Environmental attributes, Environmental Service Quality, Tioman Island Marine Park

In this study, it is aimed to suggest the opinion, understanding and thoughts ofYahya Akengin, one of the Hisar poets, about poetry by basing on his poems with themain lines. One of the most important poets of the Hisar journal, which gatheredmany author around itself during the history of Turkish literature, is Yahya Akengin. The poet processes the intellection, poetry and idea of national literature with anartistic insight. His poems are often not connected to certain forms. He has only oneaim about language: to choose the words which are compatible with theme and so, toprovide the harmony in the poem. The poetry of Yahya Akengin, who can bedescribed as a productive scop in Turkish literature, gives remarkable ideas aboutthe late poetics.
