No full textThis paper is the first of a two-part paper on the application of selective direct control of loads for small-disturbance angle stability enhancement in power systems. The change in the utility business model and developments in enabling technologies open up new possibilities for power system reliability enhancement. This paper proposes preventive modulation of selected loads through direct control for small-disturbance angle stability enhancement. An analysis framework based on the structured singular value theory has been proposed in which the controllable load range at selected buses that satisfies the desired stability robustness performance criterion is determined. Two conceptually different approaches for analysis of load modulation have been presented. Concentration in Knowledge Output: A case of Economics Journals
Get PDFThis paper assesses the degree of author concentration in seven economics journals, which were published in India during 1990-2002. To measure the degree of author concentration, Lotka's Law was used. Moreover, we also make an exploratory analysis of the geographic, economics subfield and institutional concentration in 704 economics journals. An important finding of this paper is that specialized journals in the sample report the highest degree of author concentration. This result is quite similar to the findings by Cox and Chung (1991). Furthermore, there are several instances showing that the journals lean towards certain norms; this may affect the flow of innovative ideas into economics. We conclude that a knowledge activity, involving the high degree of concentration and a biased publication process, may affect the flow of new ideas into the discipline.Concentration, Lotka's Law

No full textThe fat body of Periplaneta americana usually contains trophocytes, urocytes and mycetocytes. The fat body showed some marked changes in insects injected with a sublethal concentration of Pongamia glabra [P. pinnata] leaf extract (0.05 ml of 5% concentration) through the intra-peritoneal membrane. In treated insects, the lipid vacuoles of the trophocytes disintegrated, and swollen and irregular shaped nuclei were conspicuous. Phonation threshold pressure & laryngeal scarring (Ramanathan et al., 2022)
No full textPurpose: This study aimed to describe the utility of phonation threshold pressure (PTP) measurement as an additional outcome measure for changes in vocal fold vibration secondary to submucosal saline injection in the case of an individual with idiopathic vocal fold scarring.
Method: An 8-week program of voice therapy, followed by submucosal saline infusion, was administered, using multiple outcome measures to assess voice quality, effort, and function in a 38-year-old woman with idiopathic bilateral vocal fold scarring. Transoral rigid video-endoscopy with stroboscopy in conjunction with the Stroboscopy Evaluation Rating Form provided measures of the vibratory characteristics of the vocal folds (amplitude, mucosal wave, nonvibratory portion, edge smoothness, and straightness). Auditory-perceptual measures were obtained using the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice. Acoustic measures included jitter (%local), shimmer (%local), harmonics-to-noise ratio (dB), and Cepstral Spectral Index of Dysphonia. Additionally, PTP was measured 1 day prior to, and 1 month after, saline infusion.
Results: Acoustic, auditory-perceptual, and stroboscopic variables suggested minimal change to the vibratory properties of the vocal folds in response to submucosal saline infusion for the treatment of vocal fold scarring. PTP measurements across the patient’s frequency range, however, revealed a marked decrease post infusion. This was consistent with the patient’s report of improved functioning and her request for repeat saline infusion.
Conclusion: These results are consistent with the possibility of using PTP as an independent means of quantifying changes in phonatory physiology across the frequency range in patients with vocal fold scarring.

To design this book, graphic designer Rathna Ramanathan immersed herself in the surrealist typographic productions of the Kandinsky Library at the Centre Pompidou: leaflets, posters, flyers and programs, anonymous or signed, constituting an extraordinary range of daring compositions. The author was inspired by this material and, more generally, by the surrealist spirit, to create her own graphic compositions in the service of the poem "Liberté", a masterpiece by Paul Éluard with a universal theme

No full textThis is the author′s experience of hypospadias reconstruction using Bracka′s technique (mainly) over a period of three years. A total of 98 procedures related to hypospadias were done in three years. The surgical technique is described. In the author′s hand, Bracka′s technique gives good result both functionally and in appearance. Its versatility enables its use in all types of hypospadias with consistently reproducible results with minimal complications. At the end of the second stage a circumcised penis with natural looking vertical slit neo-meatus at the apex of the glans is produced

No full textMany important classical texts in Indian literature have never reached a global audience; others are becoming unavailable even to Indian readers. This strategic design project was commissioned by the Murty Library, with the aim of creating an accessible classical library to provide modern translations of important Indian texts available in print and online. Funded by a trust set up by the Indian industrialist Rohan Murty and overseen by Harvard University Press, Ramanathan set out to create a framework for the design of the printed book interiors, digital texts and Indic typography for jacket designs.
Ramanathan developed this series of ‘Archive’ publications as a method of sharing the research with the Murty/Harvard team of senior editors, translators, and the design and production team. These publications embed references to original Indic manuscripts alongside proposals for the visual identity and interface of future publications. Ramanathan is primary author and editor with two research assistants. Research was based on key subject areas: history of the book and printing in India, language and scripts of India, reading and reader interactions with texts and bilingual translations employing multi-script typography. The typesetting and design of bilingual Indic texts of such range and complexity is unprecedented in modern book design practice and poses many challenges that were addressed through three lines of enquiry. First, to establish a systematic bilingual book design for English translations of texts in ten different Indian languages and scripts grouped into four categories: North Brahmic (Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali), South Brahmic (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada), Perso-Arabic (Urdu) and Prakrit (Pali). Second, to accommodate two genres in the template design: poetry and prose. Third, as Indian texts do not use italics or bold, it was imperative to establish an Indic hierarchy and grammar through the application of typographic rules
