The Symington House in Newark, NJ
The Symington House, also known as the Symington�Continental House, is located at 2 Park Place in Newark. The house, built in 1808, is the last of the great mansions that were on the northside of Military Park.
The house is a three-story brick building with brownstone trim designed with Federal architecture style. The entrance features two fluted columns with Corinthian capitals. It was built in 1808 as a rectory for Trinity Church, which is located across the street.
It was purchased by Robert B. Symington in 1888. During the 1960's the house was used by The Continental Insurance Company as office space.
In 1978 Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral repurchased it and renamed it St. Philip's HouseOriginal file name The Symington House (1).jp

Marchand describes the Symington Collections of nineteenth and early twentieth century British literature, previously owned by J. Alex. Symington and acquired by the Library. He summarizes the contents in the following groups: The Brontes, George Borrow, Swinburne and His Circle, The Rossettis, Early Nineteenth Century, the Mid-Victorians, and Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries. It contains original letters, draft literary manuscripts and contemporary publications of the period.
