<i>Cryptocoryne esquerionii</i> (Araceae), a remarkable new species discovered by a citizen scientist in Zamboanga Peninsula, southwestern Philippines
A species new to science, Cryptocoryne esquerionii Naive & Wongso from the island of Mindanao is herein described and illustrated. It differs significantly from all other Cryptocoryne species by its yellow, colliculate spathe with a long acuminate apex. A detailed description, colour plates, phenology, geographical distribution information and a provisional conservation status are provided. The discovery of this new endemic species further highlights the importance of the citizen science in exploring and conserving the Philippine biodiversity.</p

A new variety, Cryptocoryne versteegii var. jayaensis N. Jacobsen, Bastm., P. J. Edwards, R. J. Johns, N. Takah. & Wongso, from the base of Mount Jaya, Irian Jaya, Indonesia, is described and illustrated. Cryptocoryne versteegii Engl. var. versteegii is a plant from the inner mangrove with short, almost triangular, stiff, rather upright leaves, whereas var. jayaensis from fresh water has rather flaccid leaves, which are 2舑4 times as long as those of var. versteegii
<i>Cryptocoryne aura</i> (Araceae), a new species from West Kalimantan, Indonesia
A new species, Cryptocoryne aura Wongso & Ipor, from West Kalimantan, Indonesia, is described and illustrated. It differs from other Cryptocoryne species primarily by having a transparent, ciliate membrane along the leaf margin and a short spathe with a yellow, forward-twisted limb. It has a chromosome number of 2n = 26, which has not hitherto been recorded within the genus. The morphology of the germinating seed is unique within the genus, the embryo emerging c. ⅓ from the distal end of the seed with 3(or 4) plumulary processes (prophylls).</p

A new <i>Cryptocoryne</i> species (Araceae) from the Schwaner mountains, West Kalimantan, Indonesia
A new species, Cryptocoryne tirtadinatae, from the Schwaner mountains West Kalimantan, Indonesia is described and illustrated. It differs significantly from all other Cryptocoryne species by the short leathery leaves, with the leaf blades shining green-purple pinkish with green markings on the upper surface, and the short spathe with a reddish limb and red spotted tube opening. The chromosome number 2n = 24, is the first report of this number for the genus.</p
Metabolite Profiles in Various Plant Organs of Justicia gendarussa Burm.f. and Its in Vitro Cultures
Metabolite profiles of plant organs and their in vitro cultures of Justicia gendarussa have been studied by using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time-of-Flight-Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-Qtof-MS). Samples of leaves, stems, roots, and shoot cultures showed similar patterns of metabolites, while samples of root cultures gave very different profiles. Concentrations of secondary metabolites in shoot cultures were relatively low compared to those in the leaves and roots of the plants. The results suggested that secondary metabolites in J. gendarussa were biosynthetized in the leaves, then transported to the roots
