    Family BAIRDIIDAE Sars, 1888 1888 Family Bairdiidae Sars: 288. Nomenclatural Remarks. In an influential review of crustacean classification (Martin & Davis 2001), the author and date of Family Bairdiidae were incorrectly given as “Sars, 1865.” This error has found its way into recent papers and the online World Ostracoda Database (Brand„o et al. 2018). The issue for 1865 actually appeared in 1866 (Kempf 1988, p. 309). In that paper, Sars did name three other families (Conchoeciidae, Polycopidae and Cytherellidae), but he classified the Genus Bairdia in the Family Cypridae Baird, 1845 (Sars 1866, p. 19). The spelling of “ Cypridae ” was validly emended to “ Cyprididae ” by Baird (1850, p. 139; see also Swain 1961, p. Q211; Howe 1955, p. 14; 1962, p. 68). The issue date of Sars’ paper on “ Ostracoda Mediterranea ” was verified as 1888 by Howe (1955, p. 314; 1962, p. 338) during preparation of the Ostracoda volume of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology. The Kraus reprint edition (published in 1969 by Nendeln/ Liechtenstein) states the place and date of publication as “Kristiania 1888.” See also Sylvester-Bradley (1961, p. Q201, Q417), Maddocks (1969, 1995), Maddocks & Iliffe (1986), Maddocks & Wouters (1990), and Brand„o (2008).     Measuring Limits of Telomere Movement on Nuclear Envelope

    AbstractThe dynamic behavior of the decondensed chromatin can be monitored by real-time fluorescence confocal microscopy. It can be observed that different chromosomal sites enjoy different degrees of freedom during a certain period, exploring larger or smaller portions of nuclear volume. Here we measure the accessible surface for two chromosomal sites (yeast telomeres Tel3R and Tel6R) that both exhibit strong preferential association with the nuclear membrane in galactose-containing media, but differ significantly in gene activity. Telomere Tel6R, which harbors an inducible gene with high levels of transcription, explores a much larger surface than the telomere Tel3R, which is adjacent to inactive chromatin. Thus, our results distinguish two perinuclear movements characteristic of different transcriptional state, allowing for a better understanding of the correlation between activity of genes and chromatin dynamics

    HIV-1 infection of human macrophages directly induces viperin which inhibits viral production

    Macrophages are key target cells for HIV-1. HIV-1BaL induced a subset of interferon-stimulated genes in monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs), which differed from that in monocyte-derived dendritic cells and CD4 T cells, without inducing any interferons. Inhibition of type I interferon induction was mediated by HIV-1 inhibition of interferon-regulated factor (IRF3) nuclear translocation. In MDMs, viperin was the most up-regulated interferon-stimulated genes, and it significantly inhibited HIV-1 production. HIV-1 infection disrupted lipid rafts via viperin induction and redistributed viperin to CD81 compartments, the site of HIV-1 egress by budding in MDMs. Exogenous farnesol, which enhances membrane protein prenylation, reversed viperin-mediated inhibition of HIV-1 production. Mutagenesis analysis in transfected cell lines showed that the internal S-adenosyl methionine domains of viperin were essential for its antiviral activity. Thus viperin may contribute to persistent noncytopathic HIV-1 infection of macrophages and possibly to biologic differences with HIV-1–infected T cells.Najla Nasr, Susan Maddocks, Stuart G.
